How's yours rod holding up? Any new favorites for whacky/neko/drop shot? Was hearing these rods don't handle braided line good(broken tip or eyes)?

Would tou recommend this (or the sierra 705c) for a rod to pair with a bg mq/stradic? Im looking to hit some schoolies, maybe some fluke, but also use it for pike or some channels easily, essentially a do it all heavier power rod, is that it?

Agree with that. I own both. When I’m chasing big Flathead or school Jew, the Stradic feels a lot stronger in the hand. Much tougher build. On-going maintenance will be minimal. But when I’m chasing Bream on plastics or Whiting on top water, I pull out the Vanford. Lighter reel matched to a lighter rod, flicking lighter lures. Anything over 2500/3000 size, I’d just buy a Stradic. It is the better reel. Not quite as much fun.

Great video! I really love the Stradic for finesse fishing. But if I can save my wrist and lose an ounce or two, I’m all in!

Well that pretty much said it all….especially for west coast guys who target Calicos with spinners…. Inshore/Bay= Stradic Fresh/finesse= Vanford …..at least that’s what I took away from this 😁

Your side by side of 1/2 oz. Tungsten vs. unknown lead jig doesn’t support the tungsten head being smaller. If anything it’s a hair bigger. Here’s why. They use tungsten powder rather than pure tungsten. You don’t want too small of a head on a jig. You would stay hung up, wedged between rocks or anywhere it could hang up it would hang up. Tungsten is much more likely to hang up than lead. The trade off in sensitivity makes up for it most of the time IMO. Evergreen has a tungsten Jackhammer in the JDM. Again, tungsten powder and the same size as the lead jackhammer. It’s illegal to use lead in Japan I believe.

I got the Sierra in spinning and a Kaden in casting. Both rods does an amazing job on what I need it to do.

I use it on a 7'3 mh daiwa rod and i haven't lost a fish yet with it, but learn how to use your drag and you will lose less fish. I used a 3/8 oz one of these on my crappie rod and got a little over 2 pound bass with it so ya cant blame your setup

Been punchin mats 40 years, stick with the Hack A Tack. When I miss one I don't have to wander if my hook flexed.

I use a 6'9 ML Tatula with this bait and man it is deadly.

Use a 5'6 ugly stik spinning rod and 8lbs test and works flawlessly

Really good informed video buddy great job and I subbed but not only that I bought one of those 795SB Fury rods! I swimbait fish but 2 3/4oz. Is my heaviest glide but now knowing I can go up to 3 1/2oz comfortably makes me want to go a little bigger! Thanks man and keep doing videos your really good at it!

I throw a lot of weightless senkos. I have bad shoulders so I need a moderate fast action to help me get more distance on my cast. Do you think this rod would handle senkos? George Santee, CA

This is not a fair comparison. You should be comparing the Owner Beast to the Trokar Magnum.

Not sure why you would say this cant handle chatterbaits, I throw them just fine with it.

What champion spinning rod would you use if you were going to wacky Senko (5-7inch).with a quarter ounce/3/16 wacky hook. Have you looked at the 764sf?

Dobyns 4 power heavy rods are not suited for weightess plastics unless you're pitching or flipping. Anything with 3/8 ounce or so is enough weight to cast with it. I think 3/8 ounce jigs work, maybe slightly less for texas rig. I think it comes down to cover. Basically this is a generic fast action rod. I don't think it's underpowered for a heavy, but could be on the lighter side of heavy. But most med heavy you can toss a senko weightless, this rod it's too stiff, doesn't have soft enough tip! The swim jig option makes sense. Again it comes down to the correct weight of your bait. Can it be a bottom contact rod, sure! I got the 704 with plans to use it for weightless senkos, ikas etc. It works for short pitches or casts into cover, but not longer distance casting. Just doesn't load up with these weightless plastics

I want some of these really bad, but I cannot stand Trokar hooks. I've had the worst experiences with them. The point will roll if you look at it wrong. Really wish Owner made a 5/0 Beast hook. I wonder if the 5/0 weighted(3/16oz) VMC would fit well.

I always go with the Zman baits, they float and last for dozens of fish caught .

Dobyns rods. I have one “Cult” series and one “Fury” series. I have been extremely impressed with these two. I am looking to swap out two other rods to continue with Dobyns. Thanks for the awesome video my man.
