Without The Beatles
Великобритания
Добавлен 4 сен 2024
This is the RUclips home of the Without the Beatles podcast, presented monthly by Des Burkinshaw and Mark Hooper.
Here you'll find short films and excerpts from the main podcast.
We have been doing interviews for this for almost 10 years, and now, finally you get to see them - full length interviews with amazing names - from Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam and Neil Innes of Monty Python/The Rutles through to David Attenborough and Nancy Sinatra.
Season 1 begins on Sept 28 2024 with 2 episodes - an introduction to the series and a real rarity, our interview with the late, great, Lemmy from Motorhead. He discusses the 60s, fashion, and his lifelong love affair with the Fab Four. Recorded a couple of years before his passing, Lemmy was on top form and this may be the last chance to see a new, previously unbroadcast, interview with him.

John Lennon's Amsterdam - Brothels and Beds

I was in Amsterdam last week and using just my phone (sorry for the sound quality in places) took a look at a couple of places associated with the Beatles - two hotels and a venue in fact. The Doelen Hotel was where the Beatles stayed in 64 before their gig in Blokker, the Amsterdam Hilton was where John and Yoko staged their first bed-in. I'll leave you guessing about the venue but here's a cl...

Now approaching retirement, she looks back on how her career transforming the public sector and greening local authorities, led to her OBE, three Chief Executive roles - and lots of travel. Annie's int...

That old Beatles vs Stones debate - from Lemmy

Lemmy Kilminster, the legendary frontman of Motorhead, was a huge Beatles nut. When he passed away a couple of years ago, it brought back fond memories of a boozy interview Des did with him in Kensington in 2012. The interview was never aired when the documentary it was part of was uncommissioned. So here now, for the first time, are some snippets of a memorable hour spent talking Beatles, Ston...

Lemmy from Motorhead saw the Beatles at the Cavern
Been looking to view the Neil Innes interview. Do you know when that will be released. Met him once. Nicest guy ever. So intelligent but humble with it.
@@blakes8126 Next year sometime:)
What a wonderful man and tour guide! Having been at Shea Stadium in `64, my dream to go to Liverpool became a reality thanks to dear friend, Roxanne, and her arraigning to have David show us the sites!
@@BarbaraHobens-s8o Barbara - can you get in touch with me via the website www.withoutthebeatles please!
Man there is always something new to learn about the Beatles and I’ve been a Beatles fan since about 12? I’ve always been fascinated with their history.. you bring that history to life and keep it alive and it’s so amazing your treatment of writing has led you along this long and winding road, so to speak. I know history often depends on which side is telling it but it’s all fascinating to me. Great interview David!!
@@ChrisJohnsonChannel Thanks for the comment Chris. Have you listened to the podcast? Love to know what you think!
@ no I haven’t yet I’m going to though
Watched the full interview yesterday. Really enjoyable. Of course I'm curious about what was cut out too! Thanks for putting this interview out.
@@blakes8126 Nothing too dramatic:) We also interviewed Eric, Kev and Graham. Coming in the new year.
When was this video taken?
About 10 years ago - been filming new interviews ever since but realised it would all work better as a podcast series than the doc it was planned for. Do go check out the full interview on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Deezer, Amazon, etc.
@@WithoutTheBeatles Thank you for your reply
He's got one adorable laugh. Top guy!
I think Lol is an amazing artist but I hoped he would address that 2 tribes partly contradicted the philosophy of not making a literal story of the song. It must have sat a little uncomfortably for them.
Interesting point and get what you're saying. But maybe he didn't think it was that literal? Are the lyrics about two presidents having a wrestling match in front of a baying crowd? I must admit, when I first heard Two Tribes I thought it was about working for the black cats. Had no idea what was going on.
Thanks for uploading - much appreciated.
And its me with the first view and comment all the way from sunnny San Francisco. Good luck!
Ha! Cheers!
