@@youdoyou888 true. I always start off smelling it around me to get the perception others will have. After that I smell a few times up close in the wearing to see how it changes. For me it is hard to do it the other way around. Everybody has its own way to study their frags. Keep up the good work.

@@youdoyou888 to me it smells like a mix of dior homme intense and some of that LMLP vanilla and some leather. So not directly part of the group but more of a wild card addition. its also alot stronger in the air, quite underrated fragrance

@@eaudetreasure Thank you for the sub (and I’ve been following you for a time now, but in my non-channel account). I just did a full wear off my first Envy bottle that I’m sure is original, and the notes really are different. The 2nd bottle, the one that seems fake, isn’t from Japan. Another possibility to add to your suggestion: a bottle that’s been discarded, collected from a garbage facility, then filled with dupe-material from Dubai or China 😬 I’m almost 100% sure that the Japan marketplace wouldn’t have fakes.

@@rodent66 Thanks very much! True, not all RUclipsr brands are necessarily bad- I think of Les Abstraits in particular, whose Bel Ame was a delight. I just think that “RUclipsr fragrance” is fundamentally a false category, and yet the association has an effect. Honestly I think the discontinuation had to do with the prices of the ingredients that went into them, esp Myths and Sunshine. I’ve been teaching myself perfumery since January of this year, 2024, and so I’m now better aware of specific notes and the prices of ingredients, and to my nose, Myths has an ungodly amount of real orris butter, which is now impossible to offer at the price of Myths when it was released.

@@youdoyou888 I hear you, but honestly Amouage is one of the wealthiest houses out there, they can afford it. Also, they are charging ridiculous prices anyway. Do you want to tell me that for 365€ it is not possible to include these kinds of raw materials? With all due respect, we are beeing bamboozled.

@@ricolini70 I hear you, yes, bamboozled, yes, BUT when we’re talking about houses like Amouage etc (the non-artisanal brands), 80% of SRP in general goes to the distributor (according to someone who has a compounding company) which means-unless bought from them directly-that the house itself gets about 80 USD. At 80 USD, it will be tough. That’s why many niche frags can be had for way below SRP. Frankly I think the economic model of distribution isn’t going to work forever, as global shipping keeps improving. Anyway, it’s not a question of affording anymore in big capital, I think- more about so-called “growth” and profit. I think that also explains why the more recent Amouage frags aren’t artistically significant anymore.

@@youdoyou888 Good points. I think that's a really sad state of the industry then. If someone like you know the workings behind it they might understand it. But honestly as a customer of luxury perfume I do infact expect that level of artistry. If I get the feeling that my favourite brand is discontinuing some of their best stuff for motives of profit - when I think there could be other solutions IF they really wanted to explore them - then I might just not want to support them with my € anymore. If they don't care cause at large they sell their simplistic fragrances better anyway, ok. But then it's time for me to support someone else :( And the fragrances that ARE artistic BUT sell well like JUBI and INTELUDE, they water them down over the years so they can release an even more expensive high oil concentration version. I mean come ON! What is this behavior!!

@@ricolini70 💯 It’s truly unfortunate for everyone that big companies operate as they do (if not must), unfortunate that “growing” is the only way for big capital to continue. I sincerely hope that this exchange didn’t bring you down! Perhaps purchasing from the dealers that distributors work with, is the way to go. And truly, if you love the scent, wouldn’t it be sad to deprive yourself of the pleasure? Profit-mindedness applies to nearly the entire market.

Thanks for sharing that info. I’ve just worn it in public once, and maybe because that was nighttime, it went beyond 2 hrs on me. I distinctly remember tho how it lacked the sense of polish that I get when wearing the perhaps better Tom Fords (F Fab, Noir Anthra). Lemme tell ya tho: don’t bother with the Bitter Peach dupe. It’s the worst.

It’s been taking forever, eh? 😂 I haven’t reached for it again, and haven’t had the urge to wear it either. I can’t say that it’s in my top ten from Amouage. I don’t think it will make the top 15 either. If you are unable to test it and are considering blindbuying, I would say: don’t. Don’t blindbuy. It’s bold but its character is terse, almost anti-social, without being wondrous or particularly innovative. It’s truthful to its vision, but I happen to not care for its vision.

@@youdoyou888 Thanks for the reply, in fact I did the blind buy after seeing some reviews, and I'm in love. I completely agree with what you say it's maybe not in my top 5 but definitely close to it. I'll enjoy wearing it in winter for sure and think it's worth blind buying, if someone appreciates the old work of Amouage :)

Agh, the year is difficult to tell, as I can’t see any batch code, and back when I got it, I don’t think Raiders (the blog that assists people date their bottles) had any information about it specifically. If you find anything, please share! All I’m fairly sure about is that it’s a US release, as only in the US did they change the name.

Nope, they’re very different, and in my opinion, Amouage Royal Tobacco is way more interesting. I hope you can test both soon if you haven’t.

Not yet, and I’m not too keen on testing King Blue since I don’t admire the work of the perfumers behind it (Amouage Search by Grugeon smells like a particularly well-done Lattafa that’s not for me). Of course, I might be surprised- I’m open to the possibility. That said, Silver Oud is so effortlessly elegant and contemporary that I’m almost sure that I’d prefer it. I love Silver Oud.

If so, I haven’t come across a vintage musk BUT the two musks I’d praise are Mugler Over the Musk (love) and Acca Kappa Muschio Bianco (I went thru 2 bottles of it 2006-2010). Initio Musk Therapy’s nice but I’ve just smelled it once-it made a great impression altho not a strong one, in that I find it difficult to remember-memorably good while itself being not as memorable as Over the Musk and Muschio Bianco. I have Nishane Muskane: skip it, I say, it’s quite dull. Lemme know your top musk picks!

I personally feel like the opening of black is like Versace the dreamer and it disappointed me, dry down smells like the vanilla in Le male Le Parfum without its spice so I don’t really see the unique smell

Whoa, that’s plenty! I love it, it went straight to my current top 1 spot! I don’t know if it will stay there forever (others are more complex) but in comparison it’s just so versatile, not-picky at all about weather and social situations.
