I don’t really care what other people say this, but my JAW hit the FLOOR when I saw this scene in the movie. To me it was completely unexpected and horrifying, really catches you off guard in the context of the movie. I think it delivered the shock factor it intended, especially with the gruesome aftermath. Very shocking and brutal scene. Also insanely tragic.

The way the scene is constructed is superb. Al Pacino had an argument with his wife because he hasn’t been spending enough time with her and the family. He thinks that De Niro is responsible for it so he chases him(also because he thinks he and his team might get traced because of this). But then the 7 minute coffee shop scene turns the tables and has Pacino in awe of de Niro who doesn’t give a sniff of vulnerability or attachment issues. Wonderfully crafted film.
