I saw several folks get a lot of points down and hits on non-threats with this stage. Possibly due to the elevated shooting angle while seated. My strategy was to go slow and get down zero. I managed down 4 which was actually kind of good here. Perhaps I also need to practice reloading from a chair with arms on it to. On Stage 9 Heavy Metal Tuxedo of the 2024 IDPA Nationals I encountered a Max Trap for the first time. This was my first stage of the match and there were a few of them on other stages to. Apparently, these have been available for many years now and I have just never seen one before. It kinda works like a clam shell target, except the back target is static and only the front target opens and then closes quickly. Being unsure if it, I made an unnecessary make up shot to the targets head. Turns out I hit both shots in the down zero circle before it closed! Yep, slap the optic back and get to work. I saw the automatic reach for the belt to find the mag. That's bad, but also good. It tells me you've been practicing your reloads. Your body knows it's supposed to be right there. The solution is to visualize the reload from the basket during the 20 plus stage visualizations you do before shooting a stage.

After trying a few different ways, I found for me that racking the slide during an unloaded start using the optic as a handle seems to be the fastest way to do it. IDPA rules count both the hit to the non-threat and the shoot through to the down zero area of the threat target.
