skill issue
You forgot Irish the Hedgehog!
Just looked that up because I had no idea who you were talking about, that’s some fun lore thank you.
@@HydratedGaming you're welcome! I was hoping you'd see the video, haha
Good criticisms, I gotta agree on the boss and bottomless pit in Spring yard zone, though the half circles can be beat by just parkouring and using the platforms in the middle
Perhaps i just needed more practice figuring out the physics on trying to get out of them. I couldn’t ever get sonic to land perfectly in the middle, but maybe I was going to fast. Might have been a skill issue.
L video
:(
Sonic 1 is just alright. Really it's very hard to go back to after playing 2, 3 and Knuckles. Those games just do everything Sonic 1 tried to do so much better. Edit : To be fair many games back then were really hard and frustrating. They increased the difficulty to inflate play time, especially in the US where rental markets were a thing. I mean, hey, go play Super Mario Bros 2 (The Japanese one.)
That’s what I read online too. Nice to see I’m not just going crazy. I’ve actually been playing the game gear version of Sonic 1, and that version seems a million times better. I really like it so far. Now I’m upset they never released the master system port with the bigger screen. And regarding your second point, I never connected the dots that the design was meant to increase rental time. I always figured it was carried over from the arcades. That makes a lot of sense
Sonic 2 appears to be much more fun based on the little bit I've played. Kind of curious about how most people feel about this game nowadays. Based on my research, most people agree it's not great, but don't seem to hate it as much as I do. Let me know what you think.
this channel is so underrated omg..... loved the video i lowkey want to replay this game since i loved it as a kid but i fear my wiimote will end up flying through the screen in a fit of rage within the first 20 minutes. sad!
Thank you for watching! And hey it costs like $3. If you want to relive the memories, I’d say go for it!
@@HydratedGamingthankfully i still have my old copy (and dolphin 🤫) so i think i'll give it a try when i have some time :) it could be fun in a discord call i imagine lol
"I wonder how they're going to expand on it." Lol, sob. I wish they had just ported this.
I am so 😡 at Sony
How ironic, Attack of the Toybots is my favorite game in the franchise too :3 I love your work very much, please keep up the amazing work!! ^_^

I’m just huge fan of this game i love it for my bottom heart everything about this game makes me happy i wish many people see your video and give game try i want to thank you for this video ☁️💧❄️
Thank you for watching, my friend!
Ahh yes, attack of the toybots. The marvel ultamite alliance of kids games. Mostly thanks to how many characters in the game would be complete unknowns to kids in the 2010's.
I was one of them, found some of my now favorite shows thanks to this game.
Now I need to watch your nick Tier list. How on earth do you put Jimmy Neutron over Avatar? One Show is perfection and the other one has an episode where a boy gives birth to an alien from his ass 😂😂 10:01
😂😂😂 I forgot about that episode. You make a strong argument, not sure I can counter it.
@HydratedGaming that was the first episode I've seen as a kid and I wrote the whole show off as stupid and only watched the fairly oddparents crossovers.
I just ranked it that high because his dad is hilarious, and I watch the best of Hugh Nuetron videos on RUclips all the time. I’d say watch those videos and you’ve seen the best parts. I remember liking the show as a kid.
your videos are pretty good. have you ever had an idea to look back on a valve game?
Actually yes. I would like to do half life as I’ve never played them.
lol no way you enjoyed outright games shovelware slop eater energy
I mean hey, THQ was a shovelware machine in the 2000’s. Battle for bikini bottom was still great.
@HydratedGaming not the same, by that logic at that time all publishers would be shovelware machines, Activision, ea, sony, ubisoft. The difference between them and outright games is that they still released quality games alongside their shovelware where as outright only makes slop
I was already an adult with a job when I got my PS3 and LBP shortly afterwards, but man! There's nothing else quite like the LBP games. Amongst other things, It was my first experience with online gaming. That's something else that's gone away with the latter consoles: free online multiplayer. Sure, I play PC games to, but I haven't found anything where I can connect with other people like in the LBP games.
Since making this video I’ve played even more of the campaign, and I really wish I could have experienced it in its heyday.
@@HydratedGaming having random people join me on my adventures was always a special moment, but maybe about a 1/4th of the time the group would prove... difficult for one reason or another. I guess that's true all over the internet, through.
I personally don't judge games on difficulty or controls, because here's the thing about them: You can adapt to them And yeah OBVIOUSLY some control-styles may be better than others, but I'm not gonna let my skill issues inhibit me from enjoying a game, which, I enjoy this one a lot personally Also I never played this with friends because I don't HAVE any lol
As long as the controls function, (which these do) I see your point. I should have probably added one more sentence in this review that I don’t think this version is bad, just not as fun as the other versions and therefore not really relevant to newcomers (in my opinion, others may disagree and that’s perfectly fine. I am not emperor of video games; Todd Howard is) And dude i doubt you have no friends, a gamer friend tho, that’s hard to come by. I’m beyond blessed to have my wife and brothers to game with.
Still dont understand why gamers hate Jeff so much tho... My man literally put so fucking much into the industry and neck beards randomly hate him
Lol I think people get mad because he tries to make money on things. But this whole industry is a business so I have 0 problems with him. Secure the bag. It’s not like I’m up to anything on a Thursday night anyways if it’s mid.

Unanswerable comment
In terms of rating games Is there a difference between 1 and 0?
I suppose a 1 is a game that at the very least exists. That or a 0 is just used when the game is so bad you take it personally and want to make a statement.
i personally think 0 should only be given for games that just fundamentally dont work or function
That’s a good point, i agree.
@HydratedGaming you could apply this to video games that mechanically are broken too
Good thing I'm not a reviewer and can have as many 10s as I want based on how much I enjoyed them! (I have seventeen 10s out of 210 games I've rated and 712 games I've played in my life)
Any more obscure suggestions from your list of 10s?
@@HydratedGaming Sure! - The Punchuin. Simple few hours long action puzzler in rare Tetris subgenre (Wario's Woods, Egg Mania: Eggstreme Madness). Pretty visuals and tight gameplay. Extremely underrated (maybe because it was released on December 20 as a NSW exclusive (not on Steam)) - Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories. "RPG" in a liberal sense of term as in no combat but you're free to walk around and talk to quirky NPCs to progress the story, with some hidden side-quests (Chulip-like!) - Hypnagogia: Boundless Dreams. Similar to above but you explore different dreams. Some are scary - Broken Reality. Same as above but VAPORWAVE and about exploring half-dead virtual reality server. - Star Fetchers. Edgy early zoomer 2d action platformer with unique combat (not exactly "good" but unique!) and badass lesbian(?) heroines killing thugs with katanas. Demo prologue on Steam. Full game will be out in 2045, probably. - Rainy Season. A single rainy day (not season) of Japanese midschool boy in his house. Also Norco but it's more popular I guess
Good review. I never even heard of this game. I think why some people hated motion controls because they saw it as nothing more than a gimmick. Personally an entire long game with motion controls can get annoying, I like motion controls in small doses.
100% agree, they’re best used for very specific instances. However I think a lot of Wii games used them better than people give them credit for. But Dewy’s adventure can get annoying. It’s kind of like the monkey ball game on Wii if you played that. Hurts your wrist after a while. Still an interesting game though.
Just discovered your channel from looking this game up on google, I really like your review style! :) Do you take wii game suggestions for reviews?
Thank you for watching! I’d love suggestions! I don’t care if they’re good or bad games, both can be fun to look at. But if I don’t own the game it may take a while to get to it. Also I try to keep things family friendly, so T rating and below is more my thing. Beyond those, I’ll review whatever you got!
@HydratedGaming All good! I prefer E games anyway haha :) I know the games Dog Island and Petz Catz/Dogz 2 on the Wii were made by the same company, and localized by Ubisoft, and have interesting plots for a silly animal game. Also interesting, Petz Dogz/Catz 2 on the Wii were originally called Puppy/Kitten and the Magic Hat (approx Japanese translation), but when localized Ubisoft changed the title for some reason and it flew under the radar as being a pet sim. Just a suggestion, totally fine if you don't want to! Excited to see whatever you make next regardless :3
I will keep an eye out for those when I go to the game store!
Good vid. Don't listen to that snob comparing it against the arcade version. At this time NES ports of old Nintendo arcade games were great. They basically played the same, you probably would have a hard time pointing out differences unless you had them side by side. Elitism in it's purest form.
Sure, producing games has always been about the money. The biggest difference now is that it costs significantly more to produce a game at the state of the art so larger studios tend to play it safe and stick with a known formula rather than making something new and creative.
Agreed, which is why it’s even more confusing that big publishers won’t invest in AA games. There’s a market there.
Very fun video to watch, i hope you find success with RUclips!
Thank you for watching!
I first played this on the Atari 2600, so the jumping controls were to be expected, and were very much on par with Donkey Kong at the time. I loved the game at the time, as when you compare it to other Atari 2600 games, it is much closer to the same quality level, if not higher than other games of the time
I was thinking of getting that Atari 5200+ emulator thing that plays 2600 and 5200 carts because it would be fun to show Atari versions of these NES games too. It’s kind of fascinating seeing Mario games on Atari.
@@HydratedGaming It might be worth it. There is a lot of interesting history there, and I haven't really seen anyone talk about it
I really don't think the controls are that bad. I do understand why someone might prefer the controls in later revisions, but I think the way they function here does provide an extra layer of fun challenge if you can open your mind to it
I can see that point of view. I just think nowadays this game is best as a pick up and play game, thus it benefits greatly from the easier controls. But back in the day when this came out, the harder controls probably helped players get more out of it as it required more mastery. And there is definitely a feeling of fun that comes with mastering stuff like this.
I believe this game had a revision on the Famicom Disc System originally, and it came with ads for a rice brand (yes really)
That’s an excellent fun fact lol, thank you for making me aware of this important lore.
The fact that this entire review is based on the NES version invalidates it completely. You wouldn't judge Pac-Man by the Atari 2600 version. NES Mario Bros is a similarly poor port. I would go as far as to say you're not really playing Mario Bros unless it's the arcade version.
Huh, never heard that it was a bad port, interesting. I’ll have to try the Arcade one. Are the controls a lot better? Like I said in the video, I really like the remakes that came out later which fixed the controls. I just don’t like the NES version, so I think we agree!
@@HydratedGaming Don't listen to him. It was a mostly accurate port just like Donkey Kong was. I mean it came out 3 years later and the NES was powerful enough to recreate those early Nintendo arcade games fairly accurately like they did Donkey Kong. His comparison of Arcade Pac Man vs 2600 is also way off. A more Apt comparison would be playing Mario Bros on the 2600. The NES had enough power to recreat Pacman just as it did DK and Mario Bros. Even the game reviewed well when it was a time arcade ports to home systems were usually awful. The NES was the first time you started seeing great ports of old arcade games. The game basically plays the same... Actually if I wanted to be a total snob... "You didn't get the full Mario Bros experience because you didn't play it in an arcade with a joystick and having to put coins in a machine !!1"
@@HydratedGaming It's been so long since I've played the NES version, that I couldn't tell you how the controls of that version feel. The controls of the arcade version don't feel like SMB. Mario slips for some distance when you try to stop or turn around, but there are animation and sound cues that tell you this is deliberate: You see water splashing from the bottoms of his shoes, and there's a skidding sound. Every step sounds like rubber shoes on a wet floor (or a squeegee on glass), reinforcing the feeling that the floor is wet and slippery. He only jumps one height, and he can't change direction or speed while airborne like he can in SMB. He can jump from the middle of a skid. Often, jumping is a more effective way to dodge enemies than stopping and running the other direction, because of the skidding. In a 2-player game, you can jump on the other player. The player being jumped on compresses and decompresses like a spring, and the jumping player bounces off, similar to jumping on an enemy in SMB, but harder to accomplish. The fireballs are way more frequent in the arcade version than the NES version, and their sprites are much bigger, and you can kill them. Each time you kill a red fireball (1000 points), a new one appears and moves faster. Green fireballs are worth 400 points. The enemy sprites are also much bigger and more detailed than in the NES version. And the color palette is bigger. I'd guess 64 colors. The NES version is visually ugly, unlike the arcade version. The sound quality is also much better. Where NES Donkey Kong sounds like the arcade game, NES Mario Bros doesn't sound much like the arcade version.
Nah skrillex suicide squad is 100% part of my awkward phase PURPLE LAMBORGHINI LURKIN
I couldn’t sit through that movie for more than 5 minutes. That being said, soundtrack was incredible.
Ok so, I’ve been a fan of the endless ocean franchise for 14 years since I was 9 years old, and now I’m 23. First 2 games are absolute masterpieces. When I heard of luminous, I was thrilled for many many weeks. But then when I played it, I cried for over an hour because of disappointment. First thought was that I thought the company Arika did this to us to ditch us and leave its fans behind. And then my next conclusion was maybe they made a crappy game to make a better one. I was getting closer but it wasn’t quite that, or at least not all of the answer. And finally, tonight, I had a realization. After 6 months, I think I finally cracked the code as to why endless ocean luminous is so crappy. First, you must remember that the first two endless ocean games were created to function on the original Nintendo Wii. EO 1 was released on January 21, 2008. EO 2 was released on September 17, 2009. Video games like these that go in detail, usually take multiple years to develop, and the yearly release reveals that they previously worked on both projects way before they released them and ran tests on them. But, it seems like their original plan was to only include two endless ocean games. But, it could’ve been that the year after EO 2 was released, Arika saw how successful the two first games were, that the third installment became a project, the first two games were premeditated and sought out to release one year from each other, when the previous developments of those 2 games were completely unannounced and secretive. Therefore, the third installment became a backup plan if the first two games became successful. Hmm, that could mean something significant: It could definitely mean that after they released endless ocean 2, they already planned to make an endless ocean 3. Most likely what happened was, after they released endless ocean 2, as they were developing it, they were probably originally going to put it on the Nintendo Wii, but then 3 years later before they finished developing the third installment, the Wii got discontinued. So, they could’ve needed to restart a lot of their progress, and scrap together some of what they already had previously, and try to work with a new program. That’s also explains the new details of what the fish look like, how the fish move etc, because of a new program. Maybe it took 15 years to make because they needed to narrow a story down to something more boring and simple so that they don’t risk messing up a big story line to a new program (Nintendo switch) that they aren’t experienced with yet with games like that. Therefore, there is a high chance that endless ocean luminous is an experimental game more so than an official and long lasting game. Something to tide us over until they develop another endless ocean game since now they know what they are working with. With the original Nintendo Wii, yes it held data, but it ultimately required to insert a game disk, therefore the Wii was more flexible with data usage. But for the switch, it’s more sensitive to the reactions of graphics and data, and further need to clear data in order to fit in a new game. If they ultimately made luminous a high quality game and released it, there is also a high chance it would’ve taken up a lot of data. But now, there’s a chance they are trying to work with what they have. Another reason why I know this is only an experimental game, is because a lot of luminous is copied and pasted. Let me explain: in the 2 previous games, we had unique character personalities and qualities. In luminous, even though there are new names to few characters, the personality reflects blandly off of characters like GG (but less creative), and as for the Ai, that’s a cheap copy of when the characters originally reached out to talk to your character while you dive. And they copied and pasted repetitively of the EO 2 legendary creatures over using them (no longer treated as unique). And when they inserted the idea of multiplayers around the world, that’s to bring it back and make up for when Nintendo shut down multiplayer on the Wii. As for the storyline about the world coral, it’s a similar theme to chasing a dream, chasing something around the world (but in the same ocean). The veiled sea copies both themes of EO 1 & 2, it’s one ocean, but different water type fish and environments from ancient ruins, to river waters, to salt waters and ice cold waters. And the randomness of the underwater layout and lack of activity from the fish, also feel experimental. Kinda like with Xbox or the PS systems with early released games, except the switch doesn’t do those. So instead, it’s an experiment, until the next game is released. And lastly, maybe the game was rushed because they could be also working on an Endless ocean 4, to release it quicker. Endless ocean luminous is probably a bookmark, to the final stages of another endless ocean game.
7:00 you say nicktoons freeze frame frenzy is good? what is good about it other than the weird organ instument i found in it
I recently recorded video footage of it and will be doing a video on it. But my argument why I think it’s good (not great, but good) boils down to the gameplay being good enough to keep kid me entertained on a car ride, having a lot of fun references to the shows I grew up with, and introducing me to Invader Zim as the antagonist. Also I really like the song that plays in the All Grown Up level where you’re on the street with all the cars in the background. I think it did a good job for what it was trying to be.

@@amimirmimir512 I never thought I'd meet another fan of the Nicktoons Freeze Frame Frenzy photo album music. You my friend have excellent taste.
I actually played this game a long time ago as a little kid. It looks good, but the controls kinda ruined the experience for me, and probably for some other people, too. If it used the d-pad or the nunchucks control stick and played a bit more like something like super monkey ball, it probably could've been a really good game. Good video btw.
Thank you for watching. And yup, I agree completely. It's nice to see when games try something different though, even if it doesn't fully pay off.
@HydratedGaming Yeah, the game looks good visually, and has some cool gimmicks and ideas, but the motion controls (while also an interesting idea) were the biggest thing holding this game back, especially considering the precision the game requires at times. Either that, or little kid me just sucked at this game, lol.

This one's for you _e_3815
One of the other great things about GG is that you get 5 extra slots for treasure. I wish the Private Reef and Aquarium were fleshed out more. Perhaps a sequel (official or not) could solve the problem by having various bases for the Private Reef to choose from, or the Aquarium could be overhauled with a medium tank to allow you to place more species (but not large animals).
I 100% agree. I’d also like it if you could catch, name, and maybe breed specific types of fish. Make it really feel like “your” aquarium ya know. Then have it be accessible from the island base and boom, you got a very fun mechanic you can spend hours on. Could probably work in an online sharing component too.
is that marvin sml?!??!
i got codes for little big planet 4. and u cant get them
LBP2 LBP3. But 3 and other games are not made by media molecule. You can still download the updates, if not from sony, then from the archive or ps3 store. Or just play what's on the disc. The whole of v1 or so on, is available on the disc. But this video got a bit tangential
nice to see a nuanced look at "big" games back then vs now that peels a bit further into the black box that is the industry
as a new comer to the series as well this was a really nice look at the games legacy!!! sometimes i also feel like i missed out on the hey day of some of these industry changing games, because well, i was a pretty stupid child as well - hearing you talk about the games you played much later in life was really nice honestly. never too late to experience these gems
Very interesting watching somebody talk about their LBP experience with nearly no past history with it. Personally I played all 3 main titles along with some spinoffs back when each game was brand new, I wasn't a kid during it, so my view on it all was bit different from some peps. Anyways especially LBP 2&3 were great as beginner game dev kits, with enough time & effort you could make nearly anything... for ref besides films as you said, other examples are JRPGs, FPS games or even minigames like arcade machines that plays Space Invaders... The series helped shaped my skills as a inspiring indie dev back then, and I was a pretty active member among the community made message boards! You are right that Sony would probably never make something like LBP nowadays, and arguably Sony didn't truly ever love LBP properly for what it was originally either... what do I mean by that? Well as many folk know, Sony has a history with wanting to compete with Nintendo, often trying to rip off various ideas from them... after the first LBP was a hit, there seemingly later was scheming behind the scenes to shift the series into being a competitor to Mario for future titles, which meant Sony became more interested in only the "Mascot Platformer" aspects of LBP, and became far less interested in the "User Generated Content" side of the series which was the heart of it. This change easily can be seen with the last spinoff game "Sackboy A Big Adventure" which discarded all user creation elements, and instead focused on merely being a generic 3D platformer similar to "Mario 3D World" ...and rumors suggested if that spinoff game had been highly successful, it might've became the new direction for the series! But as it didn't do amazingly... the result was Sony seemingly lost interest altogether... Furthermore with the latest "Astro Bot" game now being a far more successful version that "Sackboy A Big Adventure" was trying to be "AKA a Mario Copycat," ...well lets just say I doubt Sony will ever want to go backwards now. So the conclusion to me is clear LBP is outright officially dead, and likely won't come back from a soulless company that only really wants to make Hollywood style games or ripoff their rival Nintendo, and I can't see that changing any time soon unless the corporate gaming sphere altogether makes a drastic change.
Yup. PlayStation really needs to change course. All their big games feel way too similar.
"I don't even think It will come close to being the same" Hold your horses, cowboy! The hope was lost for a really long time but a clever gadder of the interwebs actually archived all 10 million levels, and they can be played via custom servers. So, LBP as a whole is *dead*, in mainstream but can be played at any moment in time, If people wish to do so. :)
That’s excellent news, and I hope that works well and keeps the community alive, but I still think that’s going to be a massive roadblock for newcomers unfortunately. But it’s always good to see communities doing what they can to keep things going! There’s history there that’s worth preserving.
The problem is way bigger then just the gaming industry, the thing is we live in a shareholder based economy, and when you realize that a lot of actions public companies do make sense. Like, Concord exists because Sony telling shareholders that they have a live service game that they are putting a lot of money in increases share value, Concord could of never have been released and it still would of been worth every cent put into development for Sony. Or, you know about all the ai stuff that companies spew out? They do it because it increases share value, it's literally just advertisements for shareholders!
I see what you’re saying. Never underestimate the ability corporate accountants have to move money around and make a balance sheet look good, but eventually you do need real cash. I don’t think 400 million cash vanishing into nothing is going to make shareholders happy. I don’t really know if it’s entirely the fault of shareholders though. Nintendo has shareholders, and they always seem to have an innovative and diverse library. I think there’s larger issues at PlayStation.
This series was so amazing, but it was ruined by hackers (and outdated security). The first two games were killed by bad actors before those same bad actors moved onto 3.
I feel like it is also because of money but also about what is the least risky. in the beginning they experimented and eventually they found what sells and despite technological progress the cost of games just get more expensive to make. so you just have less great games over time because they want to make a game that is guaranteed to sell and follow trends
I think you’re 100% right, but paradoxically, the lack of experimentation will decrease sales in the long run. Abandoning franchises before they really have a chance is also hurting Sony in the long run. Nintendo, (though is guilty of abandoning many of its franchises) does a much better job at this. That’s how you get games like Luigi’s mansion going from 3 million sales on gamecube to 9 million sales on switch. I truly believe LBP could have been a pillar of PlayStation, but they already kind of abandoned it after the second game. Series take time to grow. Nintendo series are decades old, gaming staples which will sell by name alone. Sony doesn’t have that because they’ve chased the short term trends. The only series still active from the PS1 era is gran turismo. That is bafflingly bad. If you want an easy way to guarantee sales, you need long running series with decades of excellent games. It feels like no one even questions if they should get the next Mario or Zelda game (assuming they like those genres) Sony lacks this, and it’s self inflicted because they have an amazing history.
