Hi, My name is Ted and I am like many of you is a BMW enthusiast. My journey started over 18 years ago with my first BMW 1989 E30 2 door coupe black with tan interior. I migrated from the Toyota, Honda and Nissan. My background consist of being a ASE master certified technician for over 5 years and a mechanical engineer for 10. I rebuild / restore everything BMW, Engines, Manual transmission, differentials, calipers, transfer cases. Restoration E30 and E36 M3. ISTA says 0.15mm to 0.30mm for the top ring "end clearance", which I assume means the End Gap. This is a range of 6thou to 12thou. I also get 9thou on mine. Question: am I understanding ISTA correctly? I have Hastings rings. Is it possible they do not need to be filed at all? It looks like you never filed yours at all, is this correct? Thank you!

@straightupbmw thanks for the reply. I'm agonizing over what kind of finish I want to leave on my N54 block right now while I'm building it. I have cleaned it with a soft brass brush which leaves it very smooth and shiny, almost a slightly polished look. But I have also tested soda blasting which leaves a perfectly clean matte texture, almost looks like primer. I cannot decide which I like better. I always preferred the OEM natural cast aluminum finish but this block was heavily oxidized and had to be cleaned.
For replacing the oil pump chain module (and motor mounts) in a RWD F10, does the subframe need to be removed to access the oil pan, or can it just be lowered?
@@obie1luv Hi subframe can just be lowered. You have a lot of room for not being AWD.
Great video. If replacing only the oil pump chain assembly, will the crank hub need to come all the way out? I plan to do this replacement with the engine still in the car, after removing the oil pan. Is it also necessary to remove the valve cover and lock down the camshafts if only replacing the oil pump chain assembly?
@@obie1luv Hi, Crank hub needs to be removed completely. The hub goes through the chain module Yes Engine will need to be lock down to be timed when reinstalling Crank Hub
im about to replace the bearings on n20, I know that n55 uses the same bearings, and one of the issues of n20 is the same - spun of bearing. So just wondering is it worth to just replacing them with ACL, and an oil pump as well to improve the reliability?
@@tvolex yes, replace with ACL Not sure you need to replace oil pump, you can just inspect, see my oil pump inspection video

@@nigel5740 connect harness on top of actuator And just Allen at to wake up- it will cycle through DO NOT try to Start
didnt u just remove nitric oxide layer? it provides proper crankshaft hardness which is really important for bearing-journal clearance
@@Bmw_doc_pl Hi, these S63 cranks are thru hardened, this visually evident by the burnet torch marks around each journal area. Because they are thru hardened, it allows for under sizing of the rod journals. This undersize is published by BMW manuals as a recommendation Thanks Ted

Hello, I am going to change the engine on 2013 535xi , Should I pull the transmission first. I want to replace with used engine. And what parts should I get new, like gaskets or seals. Should I replace the venose also. Does it need any reprogramming.? I used Autel scanner. please reply.

hello, it's normal that on my bmw 335i n55 the hydraulic tappet after bleeding with oil the tappet becomes very hard and doesn't move a bit?
@@noxwolf6678 this is normal If it still have movement, it means it is leaking internally and will have tappet noises and should be replaced

@@tajnile5024 make sure you have new bearings and races , lube with liqu moly assembly lube, add 1 cap at a time then rotate to isolate a bad cap

good morning, I'm trying to rebuild my n51 engine (2007 328xi). I've gotten as far as my eccentric shaft. I'm not sure of the position it should be in before I put the overhead springs back on. Any advice would be very helpful! Thank you
@@tajnile5024 the shaft needs to be locked between the two stops while you perform installation. You only release and adjust when actuator motor is being installed

hello, I have a question I have my intake camshaft which is scratched and the caps which hold them are also scratched so I wanted to know if I can change these caps with another camshaft or these caps are integrated at the engine cylinder head?

I really hope you answer, I have just replaced my headgasket in my 328xi and everything was done properly, I made sure everything was locked at TDC when the head was taken off and put back on. I reassembled the entire valve train and now my intakes are not opening. I have a crank, but no start, intake valves are moving open. Any ideas?

Out of curiosity, did you plastigauge the King bearings? If so what was the difference in clearance? If not, what's the point? Trying to decide what to do after purchasing a car with this engine. Thank you!

@@pumm5866 I found that I can use a little over 1/2 of the bottle for 1 engine
This motor was tore torn obviously prior to being sold to u that’s why your torque specs are all over the place
Also do t follow BMW oil or any fluid change mileage so it way earlier ! And only use liqui moly fluids !
Liqui moly oil treatment fuel Treatments and 93 octane fuel will help with that carbon buildup.

Hkw about the short rubber used for. All their gaskets that is so soft it eventually bakes to hard brittle plastic. How is plastic gonna seal oil 🤷🏼🤦🏼. These cars are trash. Do t buy one maybe lease one if you wanna waste that kind of $$ bit def don’t buy a used one and make damn sure u don’t buy a v8 trust me !!
