As a girl grew up in Japan, I was cheered for Mao, but yuna has QUEEN quality now that I watch it almost 10 years later. Mao’s skating was so innocent and pretty, and I loved that, but I’m glad that now I can appreciate Yuna’s beauty. What an era 🥺

Have any other skater do that exact same program - filled with ‘real’ choreographic elements - I don’t they they will be able to execute it as well as Yuna. These days, figure skating has become more of a jumping contest or rather technical elements only competition where the performances are simply a compilation of technical elements with seemingly no measure of level if how well you execute those elements or the level of artistry. The sport has become more about stacking up more technical score with more difficult elements with no attention or effort into overall flow with choreographic elements. What was insulting was the step sequence from this tango masterpiece only was scored as level 3 instead of level 4. Sotnikova received level 4 when her step sequence had no where near the sophistication compared to Yuna’s.

No I don't understand why she chose this song. In fact, I think she chose the wrong piece which resulted in costing her the gold medal, given the Russian reception. She could've celebrated her finale and the Olympics at the sane time, but only chose to celebrate her retirement from the sport, and the Russian judges didn't care about that.

The song was a goodbye letter from tango master Ástor Piazzolla to his father, "Nonino".
