I didn’t like the taste of meat when I was young. Not that I was ever given any steak or roast beef. We could only afford mince or chicken, and only on a Sunday. I didn’t like the taste and I can remember asking my mother which part of the animal this ‘meat’ came from. I was shocked when she told me but I had to eat whatever was put in front of me or go hungry, and I was quite underweight throughout my childhood. I was 19 when I was first given steak by my boyfriend’s mother. I didn’t not like it, but I didn’t understand what all the fuss was about either.
