Update: CASE DISMISSED! Retaliatory stop—Maine State Trooper Jarrett MacKinnon
Case dismissed! MacKinnon wrote me a summons for following too closely. He was informed by me during the stop that not only was I NOT tailgating, I have dash cam footage to prove it. And so MacKinnon didn’t show up for court, and my case as well as about 5 others were dismissed. Here you can see it is MacKinnon doing the tailgating. He also fails to use his turn indicator on three occasions. He retaliated after I tooted my horn when he failed to signal. He was already fired once from the Maine State Police, but somehow weasled his way back in.

Thank you so much for being concerned enough to post this. Almost one year later to the date and I had a similar experience with this same officer. I don't live in Maine, but when was there visiting my parents in May 2023, I was driving behind officer Mackinnon when all of a sudden he rapidly switched lanes and slammed on his brakes because he almost rear-ended a truck. When I continued traveling past him, he immediately pulled out behind me and turned on his lights to pull me over. I was pretty confused until he informed me that I was speeding...to which I replied, "Well, I was traveling behind you." He denied that he was speeding, refused to talk to me, and handed me a $170 ticket. Apparently, WE were doing 88mph in a 65mph. When he pulled off, I followed him again as he started speeding and then pulled off an exit with NO BLINKER! WTH. I filed a report and of course he was "exonerated." I still can't get the video footage they have. I don't care about the ticket, but this guy is UNSAFE!
If you've Googled him, you know he has had plenty of trouble. You have a right to those videos through Maine's Freedom of Access act. Please do not relent. LEOs need to obey the same laws we are supposed to--a gun and a badge do not grant them extra rights, and if there are not lights & sirens, they'e bound by the same laws as all citizens. Some go into law enforcement to help others. Others are in the job to be bullies. It's law enforcement personnel like MacKinnon that ruin the reputation of good officers.
Should take this to court
They act like they’re above the law. smh
