Sprouts have way more nutrition. Gotta eat them at the 5th or 6th day at the latest. Sprouts are also way easier to grow. Just need a mason jar and water.

Thank you for the video. I appreciate ypu trying hard to be through. You didnt say why you would grow one over the other? Why would you choose to grow Sprouts vs. Microgreens? Are there any nutritional differences? Why have microgreens great gain popularity over sprouts? Also where do you find good quality non-GMO organic seeds?

The distinctions you make in this video are used by growers and consumers. However, scientific researchers into nutrition do not use these distinctions. They rather call all plants in a cotyledon leaf stage as "sprouted" (photosynthesising or not) and will indicate the number of days sprouted in their research. Researchers avoid the term "microgreens" as it is simply a commercial moniker and has no real meaning to scientific study. Typically, research into sprouted plants will discuss anywhere between 2 - 20 day sprouts, including plants that are photosynthesising. It's as Jason White said below. There are many types of sprouts beyond jar sprouts and it is not correct at all to lump all sprouts together as those in the 2-3 day range, or even 4-5 days. It's much broader than that and researchers don't follow the categorisations invented by farmers.

Loved this and shared on my little organic gardening foraging club. My friend ex nurse said that there is a lot of nutrition in the seed itself, so you don't have to use microgreen feeds. What are your thoughts? Having cured my Asthma with organic fruit/veg and wild herbs some Elites call weeds. I would rather use a feed solution that is natural ... like nettle water, if a feed is necessary. But the Sunflower Microgreen Seeds seem to grow without the feed.

    • @puraverdelife7074

If I said "east" in the video it was an uncaught mistake. They began to be popularly grown in the West - California, Oregon, etc.

There are definatly issues with this story. Check out fodder videos. Keep in mind coconut coir has no nutritional value it just hold moisture. Conflating jar sprouted sprouts with all other forms of sprouted greens is disingenuous and makes me suspicious of comercial interests. There's a financial interest to the term micro-greens and strictly defining it and adding a bunch of unsubstantiated garbage to the nutritional value based on production methode is rediculous. The only applicable greens regulation I can find is precautions for contamination of any form of greens. In other words, bleach your trays substrate or not. There are a lot of ways to sprout, the constant water in sterile trays, aquaponics / wicking beds, and substrates. There are plusses and minuses to all methods but trying to strictly define the term to the methode rather than the stage of developement (ie sprouts are a few days as opposed to a week or more) is a commercial spin plain and simple. It should be resisted and here's why: it inhibits farmers from innovating. We wouldn't have micro-greens or any other sustainable and comercially viable alternative to Big AG without it.

My friends and I are determined to pass through this time and come out better than we went in. This “pause” forces us to make really purposeful decisions. We are finding good ideas we never expected to find. Creativity is rich!! I have a good friend who trains coaches and business leaders and she always responds to her clients with: “ Thats crazy! Let’s do it!” Do EVERYTHING!!! Do it ALL. Tours, chefs, how to grow, differences between sprouts and micros...do it all!!! Have you ever gone to Hippocrates in West Palm Beach? If you haven’t and you ever get over there they have a wheat grass room that you can get a tour of if you call ahead and you probably would find that interesting if you haven’t seen it yet and I’m sure you would enjoy talking to the growers, they do kind of switch around - some of them aren’t really interested in people - LOL but that just might be interesting to you to see. Do you know Michael Bergonzi - he’s like wheatgrass growing king of the world. He set their system up. I learned to grow amazing wheatgrass from him . I think I mentioned when I bought Sprouts from you and Sarasota that I would order seeds from these people. I guess they’ve been overwhelmed with orders and when I went to go buy some seeds they’re not taking new orders right now which is super disappointing sproutpeople.org/growing-sprouts/sprouting-instructions/ I put a link in there for you to nose around and look at their videos and they’ve been around for decades. I much prefer their old clunky website it had these one-man videos that were awesomely awkward. And great!!!. So I guess they hired somebody to give them a slick website and while it’s very nice, and I love these people and I love supporting them, they’re the same people. Old hippies. LOL and their seeds, are great.I’ve purchased many seeds for many places and this is my favorite place!!! Okay, too many random topics. Lol.
