Welcome to my first video. Today we will explore the question: Did Anne Boleyn plot to take the English throne? This video is not a deep dive into the life and death of Anne Boleyn, that I will construct at a later date. I believe they did consummated as they were expected to do so. He was the heir to the throne of England. So the sooner they produced a male child it would have eased many minds, especially the mind of Henry VII. So he would know the Tudor line would continue on. As for Catherine swearing on her soul that she was still untouched, what choice did she have.....she had to face the church, Henry VII and her own parents about something very personnel and something that affected her very life. So she lied, wouldn't any young girl in that situation? And believe me when I say, most men can not tell if a woman is a virgin or not unless the woman or girl is super tense. All their thinking about is the pleasure and relief at the end. So Henry VIII would not have known one way or another, for he was a Virgin when he and Catherine married. And of course everybody backed Catherine who's nephew was the powerful King of Spain. Who if all remember he made sure the Pope sided with Catherine. For one Pope had agreed to the French King putting aside his wife on grounds she had not given him a son. So she went into a nunnery and the French King took another wife who did give him sons. The first wife apparently did not have any powerful family members to threaten the Pope as Catherine of Aragon had.

I agree. The evidence is stacked strongly against her, especially considering it can take on average around a year for the average couple to conceive. Catherine spent 7 years with dwindling resources and little hope for a good future. Most would do the same. Although there is still room for possibility that she was telling the truth. Some people would. Henry never understood the word no and I think deep down he knew his marriage to Catherine was legitimate, regardless if she was a virgin. He always found a way to blame other people for his problems, especially women.

Arthur was heir apparent since nobody could ever have more right to inherit the throne than he did. Any other claimant would have meant civil war.

Arthur was heir presumptive until his marriage to Catherine when they were named Prince and Princess of Wales. First-born males (or without a male sibling, females) were presumed heir unless/until they either passed away or their birth was superseded by a more eligible male, e.g. Elizabeth was heir presumptive until the birth of Edward.

If Catherine took her religion as seriously as she says then it would be considered a very good piece of evidence of her honesty.
