This is from her 1995 BBC Panorama interview. Diana intended to hurt and undermine Charles. Diana's reputation was damaged by the tabloid reports of her affairs. Diana had 8 or more affairs between 1985 and 1996. Some of her affairs were with married men, and the tabloids labeled Diana a home wrecker. Diana was the adulterous mistress in Will Carling's and Oliver Hoare's marriages. She knowingly hurt their wives. I believe Diana blamed Camilla for the problems in the marriage to divert attention away from the reports of her affairs. She wanted public support and sympathy. She wanted to destroy Charles's reputation. In her effort to destroy Charles, she risked damaging the monarchy and William's future. William was teased by his classmates and embarrassed. William was angry at Diana for publicly trash-talking the royal family. Diana said what she wanted people to believe, and it was extremely biased and one-sided. Good parents protect their children from scandalous information about their failed marriage. Diana was the source of embarrassing information. Diana was a nonstarter because she was not a supportive and loyal member of the royal family. Instead, she was competitive and drew attention to herself, and overshadowed the royal family. Diana was exceptionally good at gaining publicity for her assigned royal duties and for herself. She created a very positive public image of herself and hogged the limelight. The royal family is a hierarchical organization that is very structured. Diana was in the position of supportive wife to the future king. She was expected to follow the rules and protocol. Diana refused to follow many of the royal family rules, and it caused conflict in the marriage and in the royal family. When Charles tried to encourage Diana to follow the rules, she perceived his encouragement as criticism and mistreatment. Diana was expected to be supportive and avoid drawing too much attention to herself. Diana and Charles were officially separated in 1992 after Diana's tell-all book was published. The queen and prince Philip talked to Diana and encouraged her to think about what she was doing, and Phillip corresponded with Diana trying to encourage her to be loyal to the monarchy. Philip stopped speaking to Diana after her BBC Panorama interview. The BBC interview prompted the queen to request the divorce. Basically Diana was fired from her position in the royal family for being disloyal to the monarchy. ~~~~ Catherine is a good example of a supportive and loyal member of the royal family.
