Honda Ridgeline Lock Actuator Replacement
So I've finally got around to uploading this video. This is an informational video only. Hopefully it will assist you if you decide to replace the lock actuator on your own. I recommend watching the video BEFORE you start work, due to my inability to record inside the door. I attempt to explain what I'm doing, along with some diagrams, but it is best to have a little working knowledge of the system.
The reason I had to replace the actuator this time (1st time it just quit responding to the remote) was the actuator's response to the fob became sporadic and also started blowing the fuse.
Be sure that the fuse (fuse #8 interior, driver's side kick panel) isn't blown before you replace the actu...

Ridgeline Door Panel Removal & Reassembly
Просмотров 40 тыс.6 лет назад
Hey guys. This is just a quick, down-and-dirty on how to remove the interior door panel from a Honda Ridgeline. This was part of a video I did on replacing the lock actuator. It will be posted as well as soons as editing is complete. Hope this helps. Feel free to leave a comment with any questions you may have and I will answer as soon as possible. Thanks for watching!
Great video
Great video bud thank you for sharing 🎉
thanks great job
Thank you! I followed your video to change the actuator last year! Well I forgot a screw and used the video again to back track and resolve the rattling noise that was driving me crazy! Thank you again!!
This was extremely helpful. I’d been dreading this project for a couple of years, but this noob got it done in just a couple of hours following along. Thank you.
This was awesome. Huge help. Appreciate your effort.
So glad it helped! Thanks for taking the time to let me know
Thank you i have one of these on the road today appreciate this really simple and quick
Thanks man. Same with the back doors? I assume.
Thanks for this, I need to replace my window regulator.
Thank You!!! You made it sooooo simple to follow the method to remove the panel. I was gonna spend money to take the truck to a shop but you gave me the confidence to try it on my own. I am grateful to you 🤩
So glad it helped! Thank you for sharing!
What if the front door is stuck closed
appreciate ya man, thanks
Thanks for not telling me how you feel and just doing the job !
Update I couldn’t get the three screws out on the side door. They were stripped beyond belief . Guess I have to live with a broken door lock!
Unless anyone knows a secret to extract stripped screws ?
I’ve tried the rubber band trick , duct tape , stripped screw gel, etc. it’s impossible!!!
Hate to hear that. You can remove stripped screws. These will be a little more difficult because they have loc-tite on them, but still can be done. Look on Amazon, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc, for a screw extractor kit. The process requires you taking a drill and drilling a hole down into the screw. Afterward, you will insert the extractor into the drill and insert into the drilled hole. The screw extractor has reverse threads that bite down into the screw, allowing you to remove the screw. I'm sure there are videos on RUclips showing the process. Good luck!
The rear drivers side door lock has not been working for years now and I have gotten used to having manually lock and unlock it. After having just replaced the AC blower motor myself (another project I had been putting off) I decided it is now time to attempt fixing this broken lock! I just ordered the actuator from Amazon and will attempt to install it this weekend. Thank you
Thanks Tony I can’t say enough about your video I am a 63 year old man and it took me 3 1/2 hours to install the new actuator and a new speaker. The only thing I can stress is that you need to watch for your cables are going because I left the cable that I actuates the Drivers door behind the installed actuator so I had to take it apart again. Also when you’re screwing in the three Phillips head to hold the pull handle on I suggest you put rags down in the cubbies because they can easily fall down back inside the door and you have to take it to bar part again that was my experience. Again thank you
Great instructional video. You saved me a bunch of money and time. Thanks so much.
So glad it helped! Thanks for letting know!
I can’t say how important this video is and how well it helped more than once! Thank you
So glad it helped you! Thanks for sharing
Yeah, I replaced mine just under 3 years ago and just had to replace it again yesterday.
Que iso Nomas quitar y poner tapa de puerta
Is replacing the drivers side rear door the same or a little different?? TNK U
Thanks for the video. My Haynes repair manual has a completely different door panel.
I just replaced mine thanks to this video, but it didn’t fix my problem. The driver door still doesn’t lock or unlock with the door switch or key fobs.
Do you hear it attempting to engage when you press the button?
Really appreciate the information, I just installed my new mirror 👍🏼
Thanks for this video! I just got my 2006 and this actuator is the only thing wrong with it that I need to replace.
good video i have a question my driver side door armrest is worn would like to replace it do you have to take the door panel off to get to it if so what is involved in removing and replacing the leather door armrest? thanks tony . robert
Thanks for posting! Helped me get the panel pulled away so I could put the blank near the door lock reinserted.
Awesome video! Thanks you for the instruction step by step. I’ve literally never worked on a car and was petrified to do this but you made it simple and mustered some confidence to pull it off. Took a couple hours and a small crack of plastic but $10 and a couple hours is better than $250 at the “stealership.” Thank you!
Thanks for sharing, so glad it helped!
Great video. The little clips holding the metal rods on the actuator assembly are a little tricky since there's little room to work and visibility is poor, and the clips holding the "cover" for my actuator was a little sticky on mine, but otherwise this was a pretty simple 1 hour job. Careful not to strip any of the screws on the actuator since they are small and made of cheese.
Great video helpful to get it done. But right when I finished it the remote stopped working. I know that has nothing to do with this. But I want to ask anyway. Remove the panel has anything with the key remote at all.
Does the lock/unlock button still work on the door controls? Did both fobs stop working? I can't imagine how replacing the actuator could affect the remote operation. If you haven't already, I would check the fuses.
@@tonystephens7993 ruclips.net/video/ox1O_hN2o24/видео.html Tony this video helped me. In the video, he said when removing the master controller you need to program the remotes again. thanks
Thank you very much for this video. I wish I didn't have to pull the whole thing off to replace the back window switch, but it was the only way.
Thank you! I just finished replacing the passenger rear door lock actuator. Your video helped quite a bit.
Awesome, glad it helped! Thanks for sharing
I am so grateful for this video! Dealer way over quoted so i ordered a $10 cable from Amazon for the inside handle. I was overwhelmed but watched this video 2x before trying to change it myself. I also played it during the project pausing it along the way. Now my truck doesn't look like a tweak project! Thank you whoever for making and posting this!!!!!!
So glad it helped Jason! Thanks for for taking the time to share!
Super helpful video! Was able to do the repair myself with the new actuator thanks to your time to make the video. Thank you very much! BTW, cool pants, too. Can you ID the brand of those pants?
Not sure I'm just seeing this, but glad the video helped! The pants are Kuhl Radikl.
Thank you Tony!
Great video lots of help, my first try I could not get one of the screws loose even with an impact tool , I ordered new screws drilled the head off with a 5/16 bit then it came out by hand. Thanks for the info.
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Patrick, hope it helped.
So my rear driver side door lock will not lock or unlock with key fob I manually have to unlock it, would doing this fix that issue?
Yes, it just worked for me thanks to this video. It's called a door lock actuator, you need a new one.
Oh yes, I would have broke something had I not watched your video, Thank you sir!
Thank you for this detailed video. Saved me a lot of $ doing this myself. Note to others- most stressful part is loosening 3 screws holding lock. They must be secured via locktite as using regular screwdriver will not work. Use a #3 Philips. and an impact wrench so you don’t stripe screw heads. Also
Thanks guy! Had to replace a blown speaker on the passenger side. Really helpful!
Great video, not a difficult job, especially if you have step by step instructions. No fluff, just get er done. Thanks Tony
What the brand name of those pants you're wearing?
Kuhl. I believe those are the Radikl.
Thank you for sharing this video, it was really helpful!!
Glad it helped!
Hey Mann thank you so much for this! Just did the rear drivers side door on mine as I watched this and again I can’t thank you enough. 👍👍👍
Thanks for taking the time to let me know. Stoked that it worked for you!
@Brandon Walters, was the rear door much different than the front. I'm about to replace my passenger rear door actuator. Any pitfalls not show in this video you want to pass along?
Thank you very much for this video. It made pulling these door panels a breeze when I didn't even know where to start!!!
Hey Al, glad the video helped! Thanks for letting me know.
Great video. Well put together. As you said, getting that cable behind the door back into the actuator is nearly impossible to record. But none the less, thanks for your efforts in putting together this video! I successfully replaced mine.
Thanks for taking the time to let me know!
Thank you for doing such a great job on explaining this! Great video and you speak my native luanguage - southern! Have you ever replaced the climate control on a ridgeline? That's next after fixing my door lock.
Southern indeed, hehe. Yes, I did have to replace the Climate control a few years back, but did not record it. As I recall, pretty straight-forward. Remove the dash cowl (dash face, whatever it is called), making sure to unhook the switches from the back of it. Seems like there were 4 screws to remove the control head, and 4 or 5 plugs to unclip from the back. One of the easier repairs I've done. Just make sure, when reinstalling the cowl, that you get all the clips lined up appropriately.
my door would automatically locked up when i start driving, but not able unlock it with my key fobs (with new battery installed). right now i lock and unlock my with key manually. would the change of the actuator fix this?
It sounds like fuse 8 isn't blown if the vehicle automatically locks when driving. Can you hear the relays attempting to lock/unlock when you press the buttons on the fob? If not, the vehicle may have lost memory to the fob and need reprogrammed. If you can hear the relays, replacing the actuator would be a cheap place to start troubleshooting. That is what worked for me.
@@tonystephens7993 thanks! no when i press the button on fobs and doesn't hear anything. but i can still use the key to start my car. so the fob does work, well, but just not able to use it for locking/unlocking my car. btw, is the reprogramming of fob something must be done by dealer?
My doors were locking themselves and only the driver would unlock with the key fob. This fixed it! A PITA to do but this video is very helpful! Thanks!
Glad it helped Doug! Thanks for letting me know
Tony, this was a great video, thank you.
Glad it helped James!
