Ping Voices
Добавлен 7 окт 2013
Formed at Carnegie Mellon University in 2013, we are a vocal ensemble specializing in early and new music. We believe that somewhere near the intersection of Palestrina and Pärt, there's something captivating. And we strive to help composers write new music for the oldest instrument- the voice.
Salamon: Who Knows For Certain?
Ping gives the world premiere recording of "Who Knows For Certain?," a setting of the creation hymn from the Rigveda, composed by Ping member Sean Salamon. This is a portion of a larger six-movement work called "Sacred Songs For Spacefarers," a meditation on the significance of spirituality in an age of space travel. "Who Knows For Certain" was performed for the first time three days later, in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Adrienne Lotto, soprano; Mariko Reid, alto; Garrett Eucker, tenor; Sean Salamon, bass.
Recorded in studio July 26, 2014 at the Strings Music Festival, Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Recording and mastering by Jamey Lamar.

IM LEVITATING
Beautiful!
Très bien !
Soul speaking.
Way, way, way, WAY TOO LOUD!!! Listen to the words you are singing!!
Il faut faire les liaisons.
Fantastic!
Yes, beautiful sound but they make what should be a bouncier tune very dull.
Tienimi… Oh my beloved's eyes, set in gold-blond lashes, oh face more luminous than the moon, Keep me in mind, my lovely treasure, Look upon me for a little while, and keep me happy. Oh mouth like sugarloaf, oh throat, that brings crowds in to suckle, Keep me… Oh heart, my beloved, most perfidious of hearts, you are my treasure, you are my love! Keep me…
Beautiful balance between the solo voice that soars slightly above and the choir that melts into one. Just as it should be.
As someone trained in Tudor choral music, I find the voices here too fruity and Italianate. Personally I much prefer a drier and more English-style tone for this style of music. Clearly a talented group, but not convinced that this is the right repertoire for them. Perhaps better suited for more Romantic works?
Listening to early 20th century recordings, you can hear that singers from the 19th century didn't sing anything like this either.
@@patrickpaganini True. Personally I much prefer the old bel canto style. I'm not a fan of the huge vibrato so popular today, especially for Renaissance and Classical works.
@@tullochgorum6323 Any good recording interpretations you could suggest for Dowland?
@@patrickpaganini I recently discovered these three lasses performing one of Dowland's biggest hits - Can She Excuse My Wrongs. They are German but are Renaissance specialists and epitomise my view of how Dowland should be performed. Entrancing stuff: ruclips.net/video/LB9USv8VYvA/видео.html Or how about this terrific performance of another Dowland hit Now Oh Now I Needs Must Part: ruclips.net/video/5l6jF8v_Wus/видео.html Iestyn Davies killing it with Flow My Tears: ruclips.net/video/ixF7foAZsmw/видео.html He's mainly known for his lute songs, but here's one of his rare choral works in a reasonable performance: ruclips.net/video/4FYV0X7IwJQ/видео.html As a rule of thumb, look for British performers. They are more likely to understand the period.
Very good, but this song is telling Margot to get the #### out into the vineyard and work her ### off. It just doesn't sound like they mean it.
Devilishly difficult. Very nice job. Have never understood, though, why groups who practice a piece for many hours, need the music.
maravilloso,felicitaciones !!!!!!!
great range of pitch very nice
Beautiful sound and balance! Bravo!
Beautiful

English/ Margot, labor at the vine soon. As I passed through the Lorraine, I chanced upon three capitaines, and they called me country-bred. But I'm not that country-bred. Since the King's son loves me dear, he brought a present to me: a big spray of marjoram. If it blooms I will be Queen. Should it die, I've lost my time.
The low notes in the Alto part, which reach the G below middle C, add to the mournful sound of a madrigal about death. I love to sing it.
Cool
Loved running into this, very nice!
Beautiful and sad song 😞 ❤️🦢
