Full Curl Trophy Sheep
Добавлен 28 авг 2015
This channel is all about raising horned hair sheep. When I started raising sheep a few years ago I looked for videos about raising horned hair sheep but couldn't find any. There were plenty of hunting videos, but none on raising horned hair sheep. So that is why I decided to start making videos on what it takes to raise horned hair sheep.
It's ram week
My goal has always been raise a Gold Star ram and now I have two of them.

Anyone catch the Bob white quail in the background in the beginning?
hell yeah brother its ram week
❤❤VIDEO ❤❤ it’s been a long time coming ❤Happy for you ❤ I’m so glad after 2yrs you actually have 2 gold stars,❤ waiting on TAZ❤ Longshot,Stoney,Stew the best memories of them growing up❤ looking forward to the future ❤❤LoMax, Stoney, Taz❤❤
yeah finally got there, hopefully Taz will get there soon.
Thanks for the video. Curious about your water setup? And is the alley way grazed as well? Tnx!
The alley gets grazed as they head to each pasture. For water they come back to the dry lot which is used no matter which pasture they use.
oh my goodness they are so pretty!
that's what's nice about Painted Desert sheep you never know what color you're going to get.
❤❤VIDEO ❤❤lambs are getting bigger ❤
they've been growing pretty good this year, even the bottle babies were about the same size as the others.
Lambs made the trip back to Tennessee great. Thank you for the great foundation to my breeding program. Excited for the upcoming adventure with this breed.
Thank you for making that long trip, I thought you made some great choices and look forward to seeing the results.
I have one and it has been working like a champ.
Went out today and everything checked fine, I'm thinking the poly rope may have still been wet from rain when I checked it.
@@fullcurltrophysheep2765 I have several expensive ones but I was really impressed with the 10 mile TS one. I use one 6 foot copper and the square fence as additional ground.

❤❤VIDEO ❤❤GOOD MORNING ❤❤ is 4.9 is volts or amps.. im thinking it’s amps ❤when you take amperage it’s best to do it next to the charger ❤ it gets lower further away from charger❤it reads higher next to charger, that is why it’s referred as TOTAL AMPS ❤ also depending on how wet the grass is ❤higher the grass makes a connection to it raiseses the amperage ❤❤ therefore their is a amp rating on your charger device ❤if you don’t keep your grass off of wire it will be difficult to maintain or (DAMAGE) the charger.❤ You need a voltage meter it really doesn’t cost much ❤I would suggest a digital ❤because you can have higher amps because the voltage is low❤higher the voltage lower the amperage ❤❤7kv at 4amps❤3.5kv at 8amps❤ what’s a constant your distance of poly braid❤how long is total feet of your run causes voltage drop and raises your total amps back at your box❤❤
I like your setup! We have been using the electric netting for about a year and the babies get stuck in it sometimes and it’s a pain.
I never thought about little ones getting caught in the netting
Get Shropshire sheep for your forest pasture
"Avalanche" for the white ram.. Thank you for this video.. second year in with American black bellies for us. . Our first year didn't really go as we'd planned.. With the learning curve of a ram, boar, buck and bull on site... I'll let your imagination finish that story... We had two ram lambs born this year and our current yearling ram is much more docile than the first ram we had breaking thru fences to get to the other "boys".. I was curious as I'd like to keep one of the new lambs for future breedings as he's not related to the rest of the flock. So thank you very much for your information, experience and sharing your beautiful sheep..
Ace is a good name for the white ram

Good video.
❤❤Video ❤❤ great job ❤❤little rams are looking good 👍
the young black ram is so big for his age is not even funny.big fan
Yeah hard to believe that black ram is a triplet, but since his sisters are being bottle fed I guess he's getting everything and it shows.
let me save you 17 minutes. 5 sheep per acre. 10 sheep per 2 acres.
so you think you can graze the same amount of sheep on an acre in west Texas as east Texas, Colorado versus Alabama, or in my case western Nebraska versus eastern Nebraska. It's just not that simple, each part of the country is different, and in many cases each part of a state is different, so grazing rates will be different too.
Hell each part of a single farm can be radically different. Ive got acres that would quite easily support 6 or 8 or 10. I've got acres that would struggle with 2 or 3. All inside the same perimeter fence on the same farm. I'm only on 9 acres and investigating a small handful of sheep. We only do tiny "personal plate sized" dinner animals at the moment (Muscovy, Rabbit, Chicken, Turkey, Goose) Our biggest Tom Turkeys don't hit 40 pounds. Sheep seem like a nice, do-able baby-step up.
@@SgtSnausages I think sheep can be a good way to get a start with larger livestock. You can increase numbers rather quickly compared to cattle.
What or who is an extension?
Extension offices are departments located in local counties and universities. These offices are run by university employees and volunteers that are experts in local crops, landscaping, soil, gardening, pests, and more. Almost every single county in the United States has an extension office, and the offices are supported by state universities.
i would love to see the rams!!big fan
I'll try to get more video of the rams next time
❤❤VIDEO ❤❤
I just love your content. You just know how to speak and get to the heart of the issue. I have been remiss in getting the sheep vaccinated.... and you nailed it. I don't have ANY help, so it's easier to put it off than work them. Mine aren't hair sheep, but boy they've been pretending they are this year. 5 out of 7 are shedding big time. Last year one shed unexpectedly, and this year she got fly-struck so I had to literally pull her wool off (it was fixing to shed again) because I didn't have shears. Now that I have shears, I've been trying to figure out how I'm going to work them all. I have 12 lambs, 7 ewes, and 4 goats. All needing vaccination, and they all have horns except the goats that I got had been dehorned. With four-horned sheep, it's even harder to work them without getting injured. And as a 55 year old school teacher I don't really have the physique to wrangle sheep. I've been thinking about my set up, which was custom built for me and I'm glad I thought about it in advance. I have two big pastures (mixed pasture and forest) and then the paddock with my barn (which is about the size of your second to smallest catch pen, 12 by 16. Behind the barn I have a smaller area, and on one side of the barn are two narrow passageways. One is only about 18 inches, the other is about 3 feet. The 18 inches leads to a gate into the barn. But I've been thinking that if I get the girls into the narrow alley and funnel them into the barn, set up a lambing jug, I can squeeze each animal and vaccinate, and shear them. Anyway thanks for pinning down the source of my reluctance. Knowing WHY you do or don't do something is often the key to overcoming obstacles. OH, one other thing. I had to cull my ram at 18 month old. (Kept trying to kill me, and trying to kill his ewes, lambs, and others)... When I measured his horns, I followed your earlier video on that, but he's four horned so I doubt it was a valid measurement. He was a most impressive ram. His four horns totaled 108 inches.
With the 4 horn you measure the same as the 2 horn, and just measure the other 2 horns the same way. I do not know what total is needed on the 4 horn for gold star, if there is a gold star rating for 4 horn.
❤❤VIDEO info ❤❤Lambs looking great ❤

Nice video. Learn something every day. Subbed #862, liked, black belled. Us little channels have to stick together, lol.
We have our first “bottle baby” and we spent a week trying to get her to take the bottle. Tried ALL the tricks everyone told us to do. She wanted NO part of it. We resorted to catching momma every few hours and holding her so the baby could eat. Going on 6 weeks doing this 😂. It’s a good thing she’s cute. 🤦♀️
yeah they have to be cute or more people wouldn't take the effort.
It should be only one sheep to the acre a sheep's worst enemy is another sheep did you know that i was a shepherd working amongst sheep
Thanks again for sharing. I love seeing how you've used the areas of your setup. I have to set up a creep feeder too, but my problem is that I have Nigerian Dwarfs in with the sheep. They took over the creep feeder instantly. I still have one potentially pregnant ewe-lamb born last April. I had to take out the ram so I know the potential final day she can lamb. (or at least, look like she's ready to burst). I have 6 ram lambs this year, so I'm looking forward to setting up a bachelor herd.
I understand the Nigerians, my daughter has Nubians and Nigerians. The Nigerian kids always crawl through the 4x4 opening in the kidding pens.
Any experience with Soay sheep?
No I am not familiar with them.
❤❤VIDEO ❤❤like always great 👍 info❤❤ I know LoMax had 5 ewes, Stoney had 5 ewes... Whatever happened to RED.. was he a painted desert❤❤ TAZ looking great, can’t wait to see the lambs TAZ throws out❤❤😢Stu died way to early 😢
Red was a Blackbelly
❤❤thank you❤❤
great video man.pretty lambs, no question!!!
I love the different colors
I really appreciate the time you take to document your operation. While my Jacob sheep aren't quite the same, I feel like you understand what I have that I deal with having animals known particularly for their horns. Those black and white lambs are very flashy. That's the main difference between the Jacobs and these... you get color, mine are just like a little herd of dairy cows. I only have 7 ewes, and 5 have lambed. 1 still born, but 10 live lambs. Unfortunately I have a single due to the still birth and one set of triplets. The ram was removed so that the last lambs will be here by May 10th. Only one is a maybe, but she is the only ewe lamb that I held back. Poor thing. Her daddy was a mean old cuss, and he broke all four of her horns. I ended up putting him down. I measured his horns posthumously, and I realized that if I'd tried to sell him to a trophy ranch, they might have really made some capital off him. Between his four horns, following your measuring video (adapted to four horns) and the measure I got was 108. He was only 18 months old when I put him down. (He was a violent, mean cuss). Sorry, just sharing. :) Love the babies. Particularly the little brown-cow baby. :) My first-timers are lambing last. The first of three first-timers had twins, totally mismatched in size, the little girl is tiny enough to walk under her twin brother, who is small enough to walk under his mum. My camera wasn't rolling, but at one point I looked over and the big twin was standing directly under mom, head between her forelegs, and his twin sis was under him in the same exact posture. It was like those Russian Nesting Dolls. She was a 2022 baby and didn't lamb last year, and my other definitely-pregnant ewe is the same year. I thought she'd have one, but she's just getting huge and not having babies. Though I predicted she'd be an easter baby, so she might make me seem like I know what I'm doing. The other was born April 6th last year, and she's a wild one, won't let me near her, so I haven't been able to evaluate if she's pregnant. She's never been shornso her wool is much shaggier than the rest.
Lambing season can be so much fun
Also, sheep are not dumb enough to chew on the electrical cord?
Actually I'm usually running 3 tanks set up the same way I have not had anyone bother the cords. Not saying it won't happen some day, but so far no one has messed with them.
What age do you tag the lambs?
I don't tag mine.
What height fence should I use for these?
I have just a 4 foot fence. But if pushed they can jump that if they want.
Yeah, that's awesome. I have some 6 foot woodchip piles. They love playing king of the hill.
king of the hill seems to be a favorite game
Love to see them playing!
I think that is the best part of spring
Nice looking babies!
I've been real happy with the colors so far this year.
❤❤VIDEO ❤❤ Lambs looking great ❤❤ Favorite time of the season ❤❤
Great content
Thanks for sharing. Great stuff. On Friday, I noted that one of my ewes (as wide as a house) had a taut udder, so I predicted she'd be the first to lamb. Sure enough, Saturday morning I looked in my barn-cam, and saw babies! But it was another ewe who beat my predicted ewe to having babies. Then a few hours later, and I noted that the one I predicted was in the early stages of labor, and before that thought even left my mind, the first baby was being born. I ended up getting all three babies' births on video. I have 7 ewes, one was born in April last year, so she might not be bred. But for sure 4 more ewes who could definitely lamb. Two are 2-year olds who've bever been bred, and two mature ewes.
I had 4 ewes bred the first two days the rams went in. I thought the one with triplets would go first, she ended up 4th. You just never know.
❤❤LAMBING ❤❤best time of season ❤❤congratulations ❤❤the lambs looking great ❤❤
yep fun times, half way through hoping the second half will go as well as the first half.
My favorite time of the year, also. Thanks so much for sharing. have a great week!

yep a fun time of year
black locust post still trucking man. Plant some make your own.
You keep rams and ewes separate to control lambing season?
Yes being in Nebraska I don't want winter lambs so rams go in around Oct 15th and out Dec 15th
