The bottom of the sensor, where the electronics are, is potted in some kind of hard epoxy. So getting to those components to see what went wrong is difficult, plus I've been busy. It's still on my list though. I suspect there probably just some kind of diode or something in there that's failing, but how to get to it without destroying the whole unit is tough.

I don't think there's a part number on the sensor I took out. So I couldn't tell you for sure.

It's not a super awful job.. but it helps to have another bike to ride if you're doing it yourself lol. I think I said it in a couple videos, that the first time is the worst time. After that you know what you're dealing with. Thanks for watching the videos. I'm don't have the best personality in the world, but I try lol.

For my day job, part of what we have to do is shim on production welding jigs. I always approach these things as "even if it's in tolerance, can we get it to the middle of the specified tolerance". It might make life a little bit easier the next time I have to do this job.

I thought I had replied to you before now lol. Yes, the bike started back up just fine. Once I got through the whole thing I didn't want to film anything extra.. I just wanted to get back out and ride while the weather was nice. I did have to go back and amend one of the videos and upload it again. I guess I should make one more video in the series.. The bike did make some weird noises on the first start up, but I think that was just the cam chain tensioner kind of settling the cam chain into place.

if you have all of the special tools and right sized shims, then doing it over a weekend shouldn't be a huge deal. If you have to order and wait on shims, then I had to wait on some of them for about a week, and some even longer. I spent a few hours making the special tools that I needed too. I plan on doing this again. My dealer quoted me $900 to do the check, and I assumed it would probably cost that much more if they have to change any of the shims. So I will keep that money in my pocket for travels instead.

I'm not the best person to make these kinds of videos, but figured I would at least give it a shot since no one else had done it yet for any of the Aprilia 660 motors. My dealer gave me a quote of $950 just to do the valve check and I was like "nah, I'm going to pass"

Thanks for the information. I tried all kind of different attacks on it, and may have even tried pushing down on the tabs like in that video,, but maybe I wasn't holding my tongue right.

@@Azure_Bujanga once the side fairings and gas tank are removed.. you should have easy access to the spark plugs. It may sound like a lot but it's probably 30 minutes worth of work if you get good at it. Taking the fairings on/off for this bike is a breeze.

@@terrywest5735 it's really not that bad.. just requires some time and patience. Maybe don't do it in the middle of riding season unless you have other bikes to keep you happy for a couple weeks though, lol.

yeah, it wasn't a good feeling. I think most of it came from the Uni filter that I tried late last year. Going to try the Sprint filter this next time, and try to keep a better eye on it.

After remeasuring today.. You can get a measurement on the intake cams from the front side of the bike with the short blades, but you can't really see what you're doing like you can from the back side of the cams.

@@jamesklauzner6938 they don't list a "special tool" in the service manual for that. If you can find a part number for it then I am all ears

@@DonkeyDongDoug I am in the middle of taking off the tank and was going to cut that metal clip, pull it out and replace with a new one. Pulling it out didn’t seem like what I should do. Thank you for posting all of these, it is frustrating the lack of videos out there.

Others have done this job without needing to purchase the special tools.. I haven't been able to work on the bike for a few days, because of life, but this will be covered. I wound up making my own camshaft tensioning tool.. but I may need to modify It a little.

@@1young-geezer Thanks.. I'm still trying to figure things out. I'm not in a huge rush on it, but hope to have it done within the next month or so... but would also like a working motorcycle at the end of it lol.. plus filming everything adds some time to the process.

don't worry.. plenty more content to come from this. I have my valve measurements now.. have to tear the valvetrain apart to get to the shims and see what I have in there though. That's the part that's going to suck

I was going to meet Rackhouse in Ellijay.. I usually go across Fort Mountain to get my early morning twisties in on the way there. There weren't any "Road Closed" signs or deputies blocking the road. Thankfully the cop at the end of the video didn't give me any shit. I had something like this happen to me once when I was 16, and I have been stewing on it for the last 20 years

Some nerd on a Ninja 300 got mad because he couldn't keep up with me on Blood.. so he smashed my mirror. Very rude behavior

I was pleased with it. Had to turn it down a little in post, but I can live with that
