Nicely done, looking forward to hearing his Symphony in A minor.
Thank you very much for your contributions to the rediscovery of unrecorded works! What are your next projects for the channel?
Thank you. Well, for the next symphonic work, I will want to complete the first symphony by the Norwegian composer Johannes Haarklou. And by Christmas I will do my best to complete an oratorio by Carl Drobisch; a further 150 ms pages has to be transcribed but, I feel the undeserved neglect of such beautiful music really deserves wider exposure.
This is indeed a fine, memorable work with a powerful finale. A wonderful find!
Wow, this is fantastic, especially the splendid Coda of the 1st movement and ave all the awesome Finale!!! Great, I never heard of that composer before
Markull was also well regarded in his time for transcribing all the Beethoven symphonies for piano four hands.
I hope one day you uncover some of the other symphonies mentioned in 'The German Symphony between Beethoven and Brahms' that only survived in manuscript.
I fully agree to you! Then you may also find interest also in this gem, which was projected 9 years earlier: ruclips.net/video/6SktTBKjV10/видео.htmlsi=rrFcGb7PtDHjVx-0
One potential name of interest that came up in the book was Karl Lührss, whose symphonies might be preserved in his musical estate.
@@tuomaspalojarvi3300 Good luck in the search.
wonderful music... would you be so kind to share where can I get a copy of the manuscript please
Thank you! The manuscript is held by the Berlin Staatsbibliothek and you can find it by searching their digitized collections (digital.staatsbibliothek-berlin.de/). The entry for this symphony also contains a handwritten set of instrument parts for it.
Artist: Ernesto Strigelly (German, 19th century) A Winter Twilight in the Rhine Valley
Thanks for doing it. Is the art works synthesized also?
Wonderful music.
Hints of Tchaikovsky evident..😊
Great work 💯💯💯
What bro this sounds amazing How’ve you found this score? I’ve never even heard about Drobisch
Great effort... Nice to hear ❤❤❤
I've got a recommendation for you: Fritz Arlberg's "I Skogen". The score is on imslp and as far as I can tell it has never been recorded, but it's a pretty piece.
Thank you for a good suggestion - I will look into it soon :)
Nice
It would be interesting to listen with this system to a much played symphony, such as Beethoven 3rd or 5th to realize the differences. Could it be more "authentic" versions?
This is a good idea, thanks. I will consider it!
The year of the symphony´s creation - 1858 - must be wrong. Eugen Drobisch lived from 1848 to 1901.
My sources (for example imslp) say 1839 for his birthdate.
@@tuomaspalojarvi3300 The German version of Wkipedia also lists him as being born in 1839, but the year of his death is given as 1901, as opposed to 1905 on IMSLP; both give the date as January 30 of those respective years, however. I enjoyed listening to this composition - thank you for posting!
great composition by raitio and great work to you tuomas! i really like his fantasia poetica style works though!!!!
Took me 3 minutes to realise that this was a digital recording... before the strings at around 03:00... and I work in Musescore... thought that this was an old live recording. Thank you very much for sharing this rarity! This is such a lovely composition... and the amount of work is monstrous.
Hey I am a conductor of a small orchestra. Could you send me the score and parts to this symphony? I would like to program it sometime.
Hi, unfortunately I haven't edited the full score or made the instrument parts. I don't have the free time to invest in editing this work without a commission. Sorry.
Overpowering rarity....BRAVO from Acapulco!
Once again I clicked on a piece of calssical music because the thumbnail was an impressing painting
I'm impressed with this Linko Piano Concerto. Yes, it distinctly Romantic but the piano runs more like neo Classical style. If this is Linko version of Fusion I like it. It's like fuse Rach + Hindemith. To me it's successful. I'd like to hear this one live in concert. I will listen again and then some.
tuomas, if you dont mind my asking. how do you find the manuscripts to ernrest pingoud?
No problem. Music Core Finland has a page on Ernest Pingoud where one can buy scans of some of his manuscript scores (nearly all of Pingoud's music is in manuscript). They're not all that cheap, mind you. I've also visited the City Archives in Helsinki, where most of the physical manuscripts are actually held. It's a more restricted collection, though.
Wow, this awesome!! How in did you discover such an unknown gem??
Thank you Gerd! I found the full score to this and a few other oratorios of Mr. Schneider in the website of Hochschule für Musik und Tanz, Köln. These manuscripts are not the composers' original: they are copyist scores. All the same, they prove to me Schneider was a formidable composer in his own right!
Great introduction! Makes me hungry for more of this work! I never eben heard of this composer!
Thank you for your amazing work! Anyway, I can't find the sheet online: do you have a link?
Thank you :) I did not place this score on IMSLP, because I could not finish notating the last movement. I can send the first movements to you though if you are interested, send me an email: palojarvimusic (at) outlook.com
@@tuomaspalojarvi3300 Email sent. I hope it didn’t end up in the spam.
Hi, I'm from Italy and I am an orchestra director. I have an orchestra of young boys and girls and I would really like to make them play this Overture and «Prometheus und die Oceaniden»: would it be possibile to have your transcription of this Overture? I found you transcription of «Prometheus und die Oceaniden», but not of this one. Thank you very much for this channel, by the way...
Thank you! This Faust overture has been published by Ries&Erler, they probably also have the performing materials. For Prometheus und die Oceaniden overture, can you send me an email: palojarvimusic (at) outlook.com so I have your contact details?
Splendid rare treat....BRAVO, Draeseke......from Mexico City!
This sounds so mechanical and artificial. No feeling to the music at all. Thanks but no thanks.
These reproductions were never meant to be the ideal format for sound and expression but more an approximation of long-forgotten pieces that would otherwise never be played. The manuscripts are out there to be studied by musicians, yes, but for people who cannot read musical scores the audio, however inexpressive, should provide a general idea of what the piece is about.
It must have been a huge work. Congratulations for having rescued for oblivion this cantata. High quality indeed
Thanks, kudos to Hiller for the cantata, I like many passages and melodies a great deal (the choruses, fugato near the end, nice clarinet cadenza and the coda etc). An uplifting piece it is. I'm very familiar with Hiller's handwriting and compositional quirks so it was rather quick to reproduce this score.
@@tuomaspalojarvi3300to the next 🎉🎉🎉 thanks 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for your work! The tempo is wrong, though. Should be twice faster. 138 on half note, not quarter note.
Thank you! Schjelderup's marked tempo of half note = 138 indicates alla breve (2/2) and so is counted in double beats. It appears correct to me. Twice this tempo would be impossible to play.
Not at all. We played it here in Norway about 20 years ago at that speed, more or less. Two beats in a bar. Your version has 138 on quarter note, 4 beats in a bar. Maybe 138 on half note is a fraction too fast, but still playable. Remember - it says "wild bewegt" :)
@@jrnfossheim2682 Very interesting, thanks for the correction! I didn't know this was performed so recently. Not being a conductor, it can be tough to figure out tempi for pieces that are seldomly if ever heard in concert. Wild bewegt it certainly is :)
Beautiful work!
Kiitos, nämä ovat upeasti toteutettuja! Tekisitkö joskus Väinö Raition Lemminkäisen äidin?

Where can I find the manuscript of Les quatre éléments? I'm looking for the sheet music of this (either piano or orchestrated version) and I can't find it anywhere..
All of the August Conradi/Liszt orchestral scores are at the Goethe Schiller Archive (Weimar)'s Liszt collections. They also have the piano versions of Les quatre élémens. They have digitized all the Liszt manuscripts, so you can find them thru their website :)
@@tuomaspalojarvi3300 Wow thank you so much!!
Do you know where exactly I can find them on the website/are these even available online? I've been dying to see the Conradi orchestration for the Goethe Festmarsch since forever (among other things). I barely found more than generic corporate mucho texto and ads for their exhibitions on there. I may be looking at the wrong place. 🤔@@tuomaspalojarvi3300
About that, can you try doing conradis orchestration of the other preceding three movements la terre les aquillions and les flots
Thank you, Tuomas! Keep up the good Schjelderup-work! All the best from Norway
Wow - I never heard of that before! I love the powerful 1st movement and also many parts of the Finale !!!
This symphony is not bad, but It's to bad it's not played by a real orchestra. It sounds to mechanical. Very stiff. Waste of time if you ask me.
A perfect orchestra would have played just like this...on perfect time....
Is it a waste of time to give a decent idea of how it could sound?

Tuomas Palojärvi.. would you be so kind to share information about where can aI get a copy of this score?
An interesting score of great talent, not helped by the AI which doesn't emphasize the first beat or use rubato on lines that are ultimately vocal. it sounds more is an organ with sampled sound. Of course I'm grateful for hearing this piece at all. Thanks! .
An incredible work.
An opera based on a Disney movie, how unusual. It's very nice in the Romantic later 19th Century manner. I find it almost hard to believe this is not an actual orchestra performing this but a computer program! Thank you for your unusual and exciting RUclips channel.
Thank you :) this is actually a concert overture, there is no opera. Cheers

Thank you!
Bravo. I sure would like to visit Sortavala.
Dear Tuomas, again you have done a wonderful job here digging this Andante movement out of the dust. But I find that this movement (and its main theme) does not have quite the extraordinary melodic beauty of the slow movements from Lachners symphonies #2, #4, #6 and #8 (or maybe I have to listen to it more often ?) But I do like the middle part of 5:50 - 7:50. However I am glad that he composed the new Andante for the 6th symphony which I really adore (though not in the too fast performance of the CD)
