Perfect Development of Large Format Films with MEKINER Processor and JOBO Expert Drums

We walk through the C-41 development process of 6 sheets of 4x5" Kodak Ektar using the brand new semi-automatic MEKINER LL-2 Processor (capable of processing films up to 8x10" and prints up to 20x24").
Why not just buy a jobo CPP2?
It depends on what a photographer needs. My reasoning for LL-2 vs CPP-2: (1) The LL-2 processor is much smaller (around 16" wide and 4" tall) than the JOBO (around 40" wide and 20" tall). It's much more portable, and comes with a custom carry case and the ability to run on batteries. I can travel with it. (2) The LL-2 is fully programmable with custom development profiles, while the CPP-2 only has a speed knob. The programming helps with consistency and makes the job a matter of repeatedly pushing a button and pouring chemicals. This makes a BIG difference when developing many films. (3) The CPP-2 is a used product (most are already 20 to 30 years old). If looking for one, find a later model with the more durable lift and motor. Of course, It will need repairs eventually. The LL-2 is brand new, and is durable enough for very heavy use in a photo lab for 3 years already. (4) If necessary, I offer quick repairs (within a week for the USA) and free technical support. Customer service with quick response is hard to find these days. (5) Of course, both the CPP2 and LL-2 support darkoom printing and LF development with print drums and JOBO Expert tanks.

Derek, I really appreciate your work. I feel so happy that we can connect through your channel. I still remember how I feel overwhelmed the first time I see this book at SPE. But this time, when I see the video, each picture just sparklingly tease my 👀eyes. I was again astonished by the quality of the images, it is almost like a Dictionary of the vintage car. I was one time attend this event, Took so many pictures, but I didn’t do anything after that, while you spent so much heart and sequencing, editing and printing them. It’s a gift for the world. The color of the images are like color wheels, so pleasing to look at. I still don’t understand why the cars can be so shining, maybe because of the large format? I especially enjoyed the last two minutes;) And personallylove the abstraction the most.✨😍👏
These are actually 35mm slides. As far as the shiny or "glow" effect, it just happens for me. The shiny paint of the cars helps a lot though. You can just walk around and look with your own eyes (no camera). You'll see a specific point where the cars get more flashy, and then you grab what you see in that moment. It's a good exercise just looking first without the camera.

I heard that Lego mindstorms was being discontinued at the end of 2022, is that true? How many of these machines do you actually have available to sell?
It's true. I already stocked up enough parts for over 200 processors; it wasn't cheap. It's enough to last for several years. I designed the processor to be modular; the EV3 and motor plugs into the processor rather than being a part of it. I intend to have my own computer and motor (but keep the rotation base as the plastics and gears are rock solid) when there is enough demand over the years.
Never seen this book before, but Eggleston's work here is brilliant. I noticed he uses different ways to create visual interest. He likes to repeat the same colors elsewhere in the photo. Sometimes he plays with warm color / cool color contrast and light color / dark color contrast. He uses the texture/qualities of elements such as the dirt ground, brick walls, light reflections, shadows, and other things to enhance the photo. When the subject is more traditionally banal, he uses more of an abstract, geometric-based composition to make it interesting. Also, every photo, he manages to include some sort of pop-culture reference like cars, Coca-Cola, cotton candy, different advertising signs, and objects that remind me of American life.
