The first 2.5 lectures provide a general introduction to the string theory, the problems of other quantum field theories and gravity, and how string theory addresses or avoids these issues. It’s not crucial to understand all the details until the concrete discussion on string theory begins in lecture 3. However, if this is your first course on string theory, it’s important to go through all the lectures in sequence without skipping any.
