So what is the truth about speedsticks? Must have missed it
I’m sorry if you didn’t find the video helpful. I tried to provide some info into the truth of how speed sticks work and some considerations that need to be made when starting speed training.
giga hater
Fantastic video Joe! I was considering taking the TPI Level 1 Certification course, to assess myself and friends, so this video saved me a lot of money :) You mentioned in the video (25:30) that most golfers rotate better on their backswing (right side for right handed golfer) than their downswing (left side for right handed golfer). This is definitely something I discovered doing the assessment. I felt restricted in my hip/upper left leg area, more than the left shoulder. Are there specific exercises for this type of restriction? I also failed the left leg single balance (maybe related to left side rotation restriction...?), and was Yellow on the right leg single balance. I passed everything else. I'm a 10 handicap golfer, mid-50s male. Main thing I work on with my golf coach are drills to prevent early extension. Any advice is appreciated! Love the channel and will definitely watch more and check out the app.
Thanks for taking the time to drop a message! Definitely some things you can do to clear up the rotation to the right. I have some follow along routines on RUclips and on the app (not sure how to link them here sorry!!) The balance tests will depend a lot on stability, but also foot structure, posture and coordination. The early extension could be coming from many different factors so worth exploring every aspect!
Thanks for having us Joe, took loads away from the day!
Any time!💪🏼💪🏼

Well done making some efforts this winter. Core strength is important, but so is the rest of the body. Also good to check in on your mobility and stability 💪🏼
this is fantastic, am I mistaken or is this basically Pete Cowen swing philosophy? 1 of the best explanations of this kinda swing, some stuff I've not heard/seen before that actually clears some questions I had. Did Levi learn under Pete? Grateful for the demonstration on left shoulder wind up for fade vs draw, Pete has demonstrated it with arms up but not in golf position. 1 topic I'd love to learn more is about the so-called delivery position as defined by Pete, about P6.5 where shaft & clubhead is actually under the hands (face on & dtl view, but likely an illusion as they are actually just progressed along the arc together). Critically for me from DTL view, the shaft & clubhead has gone outside of the hands. Feel it's something I actually understand instead of P6. & this delivery position is only talked about by Pete & those trained by him. Another topic , (i know it's not great to compare different coaches but sometimes it's easier to describe a swing philosophy based on the coaches who are known to champion a certain swing). To be this swing Levi describes seems to me clearly different from a Bender , even Como teaching (afaik) where there is independent left forearm supination, left wrist bowing and flexion, turning down of the club face. My intention is not to criticize but to learn and remove confusion from my own mind about the swing. Obviously these coaches are not rigidly on 1 single way to swing but the material they put out usually is. Would be good to know differences in methods & the pros & cons. Are there some golfers who naturally can learn 1 easier and more effectively than another etc. Does 1 method favour straightness over ability to manipulate the ball etc thank you so much for doing this video ❤🔥
Glad you liked it! Levi should be able to get back to you with a more detailed reply 🙏🏼
You actually don’t feel weak when you come over the top with internal rotation that is a mistake as you start using your hands forearms not your shoulders. but once you do it correctly you then realize it is weaker than using external rotation of shoulder lol
Thanks for watching. Levi will get a detailed reply back when he gets a chance!
Secret to good golf….but the left arm back rotation actually helps stabilize the right shoulder especially if your right is not as flexible eg keopka
Question: Right shoulder external rotation, check. Right hand on top ... BUT ... wrist at the top in "waiter/tray" position, seems to be conflicting with "on top". Any extension of the right hand seems to open the face, which seems to be a bad thing. :) Can you go down this rabbit hole for us? What is the feel? I really think this is "the bitch of golf", if you'll pardon my language. People say, "skip a stone on water with your downswing". I can do that of course. But the face is going to point to the moon. I know internal rotation doesn't work. It feels strong, but it's inconsistent, and turns my ball violently left too often.
Great question. I’ll get Levi to drop a comment here but we will get a video done specifically on this
Thanks for the comment and happy to help! Apologies for any delay, my schedule can be very hectic! So at address, we want the right arm sitting underneath, which is then going to stabilise the shoulder joint. I like to get players (not all but whoever this will help) to feel that their right hand sits on top as this helps creates stability in the grip. Equal and opposite like the butterfly grip in a bunker. Because the body rotates, the shoulder also needs to rotate. As a ripple effect, the trial arm (bicep tricep) all the way down the forearm, then down to the hand…needs to rotate. The Golf Club being attached to the hand, the club face also should have some form of rotation! If it doesn’t then it’ll close and create a ripple effect of essentially internally rotating the shoulder. You are correct in saying that trying to skip a stone the face point towards the moon. Instead of skipping a stone, I like to work on downforce. Downforce would be like griping the club with a split grip, shaft parallel and bouncing the shaft so the head goes up and down. The pushing down action would be downforce! The right shoulder sits at external, the shaft then can sit at 45. Retain these as you get the right arm working down and away! Away meaning more width. That width will help with downforce, help keep the shoulder externally rotated and essentially make the arms work more vertically down which keeps the arms tight to the body. A player that comes to mind is Sergio Garcia! This is called angular force Me and Joe can make a video on downforce 👍 Apologies if this doesn’t answer your question well enough, it is a lot easier to explain either in person or over video rather than in writing as I feel like I could write essays.
@@Levi92j It's great info, and I'm appreciative. One additional question, if I may. The very first move in the takeaway ... I feel, should be the lead shoulder, lead hand. When I say the very first move, I'm talking no more than about 6 inches. Then the trail side takes more command until the top. But that first few inches, thinking about the lead side and lead hand, *seems* to get the club face really square before I begin the more substantial turn with the trail side, including right hip. But it's all very "touchy feely" if you know what I mean. But Jack Nicholas said the first 12 inches are the most important part of the swing. So I'm really working on those inches. This means my tempo in the takeaway is pretty slow, esp initially. I think obviously (and I'm a beginner) one needs to involve both sides of the body in a good swing. It's challenging to switch from side to side. I will work more toward thinking about that trail hand "on top". I definitely keep the trail elbow tucked at address, and I count on my lead arm/shoulder to prevent the trail side from collapsing too much. One of the more difficult aspects for me, at present, is knowing when to "disconnect". I'm getting better at keeping my hands in front of the body, but past about 9 o'clock or so, one needs to disconnect, and then reconnect, I am thinking. This part is challenging, too. Thanks!
This was great! More, more, more!
Thanks David! If you head to the playlist called “Mobility 101” you’ll find loads on different areas of the body. I’m also going to be filming a lot more videos like this in the coming weeks 💪🏼💪🏼
Just came across your video by accident, it is unclear how many reps are recommended for each exercise. Also are a minimum number of sets required?
@@mrneutral5081 Im glad you found me by accident, hopefully it was a good thing. I would recommend 2 sets of 12-15 repetitions on each movement.
Levi, please can you help me better understand your initial transition move with your hand path in connection to trail wrist increasing the lag hinge. You look to be pushing the handle further away and this straightening your trail arm / increasing the downswing arc? Whereas other coaches have advised retaining some angle in the trail arm into the delivery position. I do like your idea that at this point the butt end / handle begins to slow down & this kicks the club head out to the ball. It looks like you’re also adding a slight twist of the handle in your right palm & also a slight spinning of the trail forearm into impact. Please could you explain this key transition move in terms of how the trail arm is straightening in relation to the trail wrist increasing the hinge. Also that last release phase into impact what is the motion of the right forearm and trail hand to square the club face. I would like to understand better the balance between the exit left move helping to square your left / lead forearm versus the right side spinning down and a feeling of the right wrist releasing the club.
I will get Levi to reply!
Fantastic quality & clarity of content coverage of the body coil, transition into the downswing and extension. Really liked the example of the pivot motion with the left hand & arm pushing on a wall concept while spiralling / rotation of the hip. Most of us simply don’t get enough backswing shoulder rotation. Great point about need from the stretch of the band to the top of backswing not to allow the butt end of the club to be swung / pulled laterally to the target. Need to have that PUSH away feeling with the right palm / right hand. Likes the references to Pete Cowen, it gives excellent context like the Stretch phase being like the Cowen spiral staircase. Liked the Levi side on view showing the set trail wrist being maintained and the hand path down into the Delivery position and the release phase. Love the references to the hand path movement through impact, exiting left & up with the extension movement. Loved the transition move and explanation of how the weight moves from the front of the lead foot more into the heel as your body rotates and extends upwards on the lead side. Great combination of questions from Joe and explanations / demo from Levi.
Thank you! Plenty more videos like this coming up!!
Really like the more passive move away but then blending the right wrist hinge to move the club to shaft parallel in the move away. The club face then matches your spine and you have started to hinge the right wrist without having to rotate your trail forearm that much presumably to this stage. Does the trail forearm now rotate in the second stage of the backswing to lead arm parallel/ P3? From here I guess your right arm starts to fold as you pivot your shoulders to the top?
Hi! Thanks for taking the time to drop a comment. I’ll get Levi to reply 👍🏽
Excellent video - thanks chaps, really simple way to explain some super-important concepts
Thanks for taking the time to feed back - means a lot. We will try to get even more videos like this one done in the next few weeks!
Great video!
Thank you!! Hoping to bring more like this very soon!
Hey Dear, I am Rohmat! I've been watching your channel, and I have to say, I’m really impressed. Your content is not only engaging but also impactful-I can see the dedication behind each video. I’d love to explore how we can work together to expand your audience. I have some ideas that I think could really help you reach more people who would love your content.
Thanks for the message 🤘🏼
The rotation of the handle on the downswing is extremely important to create both downforce and also keep the face square. For some this is conscious and for others it’s subconscious! When you have stability in the wrist joint, you’ll only be able to rotate the right palm down a small (limited) amount. This is what creates consistency! When the joint/s become unstable, that’s where you’ll create inconsistent patterns in body movements - club positions- ball patterns. Remember, constant means consistent!
Great explanation. Thanks Levi
The hammer demonstration is a good analogy in understanding how the wrists unhinge but the complex manoeuvre is rotating the handle to square the face. The question therefore is the rotation of the handle a conscious purposeful action or is it a passive movement in response to body pivot rotational movement.
I guess they don't answer comments!
Fantastic question - I will ask Levi to reply on this!
We do, when we get the chance 😅
An answer for you from Levi above!
Could've spent half the video saying what it is, rather than repeating yourself...
In terms of which exercises to do?
Colpletely agree with the only other comment in your channel. Find a job mate
@@paramillo if you take a look at the linked video youll find all of the exercises you need ✌🏼
So the way I am understanding the golf swing now its. 1. The hips are on the saggital plane-squats, lunges etc and require "space" 2. The upper body is on the transverse plane amd requires rotation. Of you have a balance of those 2 planes you have a great swing?
Actually both segments move through all 3 planes!!! But the timing of this is the key
@@JoeMacroGolf when does the torso move on the saggital plane? Also the hips technically "move" at times in the transverse but they load and unload on the saggital plane-squats. If the hips are twisting they are not generating force that's not how the hips muscles work.
Core energy is the cement for the body to move in sync
Very important aspect for both power and consistency 💪🏼
Nice presentation as always, please please dont forget us old boys and girls, hahahahaha thanks Joe.
I’ll keep you in mind John don’t worry 😅
How do I know it’s club speed not ball speed?
Hi Greg - are you asking that if you used the radar when hitting the ball how would you know whether it was picking up ball speed or club head speed?
Perfect demo Joe, keep it going sir!
Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼
The explanation of the correct vs incorrect backswing stretch was worth the cost of admission alone. Very helpful!
Thank you!! And when the cost is free it’s even better 😄
Great video. Golf is very complicate take years to became a scracht golfer.
Thank you for the positive feedback! More videos coming soon!! 💪🏼
NO NO NO GUYS, THE GAME OF GOLF IS NO THIS COMPLICATED, please review of keeping it more simple and explain the need to always strive to make the basics perfect, by the way im an old man who has been doing this for years, thought of handle more than club head is the massive key GENTS. keep it simple guys.
Thanks for the comment. We agree that the coaching should be much simpler than this. But hopefully this video helps people understand the key phases of the swing
@@JoeMacroGolf i really get what you are saying and understand what you are saying, also may i had your intentions are pure gold, but in my opinionyour talking about symptoms not causes,if you just think on getting people to understand that striving for perfection in the basics, would take away most of what you were doing in this video Joe,just an old mans opinion on modern day teaching. im not in anyway attacking you gents.
Thanks for the message John. We definitely agree with simplicity and most of Levi’s coaching is based on making the movement and feeling simple for the player. But it’s also nice to understand at some deeper level for those who prefer to understand the “why”
@@JoeMacroGolf I look forward very much to seeing it taking off, kudos to you both. you have passion, love it Gents. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, love people that dont have huge EGOS ahhahahahahaha obliviously you guys dont!
Thanks for the kind words John!
What do you do when your joints and muscles will not permit portions of the movement.
Great question. First thing is to test it, I have a video showing you how to test your own golf mobility. Then you have 2 choices, either try to improve your range (exercises) or work around the restrictions (compensations)
Great watch guys thankyou
Thank you! More coming soon!
Stooges of Pete Cowen😅

What your blast driver length setup at the right length? I had that issue. default driver length on blast is 47.5”. I play 45”
Great point! Will double check this - didn’t actually play with that setting but based on how the algorithm works it’ll make a big difference
Swing , please , i got to go to work ,
In the description you can skip to any section you want if you don’t want to listen to me ramble on 🤪
How can this be an honest review when you don’t even compare its consistency against something of the likes of flightscope gc quad, or just its consistency all together with your own swing. If the device shows a diff of more than 5 mph with the same swing then I say stay away from it.
Honest in terms of I wasn’t paid to do the video like most other reviews. Also GC quad / trackman etc can’t measure a swing without hitting a ball so they are not testing the same thing. I do have a video where I compare this radar to the blast radar in terms of accuracy
@JoeMacroGolf My words weren't carefully chosen. By 'Honest,' I was merely implying that the review might not be 100% scientificly accurate.
@@chewingal2324 ok understood!! Yes hard to be 100% scientifically accurate for a few reasons. 1. Without hitting a ball it’s hard to be precise with exactly which part of the swing we want to measure. A trackman / quad will take the same “moment” in the swing each time based on ball impact. When doing air swings it’s not as easy, even when keeping the radar in the same spot the golfer will often move a bit further back, forward or closer to the monitor, especially during speed training. What I am mostly looking at here is whether the radar is accurate to itself and would it show increases should there be any. In terms of comparison to trackman, most golfers I test say the results are the same as what they see when they do gapping/fittings I think for around $100 it’s pretty useful
Joe...from the instruction manual included...."Place the Swing Speed Radar about 8 to 10 inches away.....Orient the SSR so that it is facing toward the direction from which the clubbed is coming at about a 45 DEGREE ANGLE relative to the swing path"...
Didn’t know this!!! Been getting quite accurate reading with it face on when tested against other radars but will try the 45d angle and see what changes I get. I also am due to test the red one so might set them both at at the same time
@@JoeMacroGolfdid the 45 degree angle help ?
@@videorangers3962 didn’t really make much difference! I think this only really matters when you’re hitting a ball so that it doesn’t get confused with impact / ball speed
Is there any way to calibrate it?
I don’t believe so!
Great video, really interesting to think of where your max clubhead speed is!
Yep! And changing it also have a big effect on ball speed
