Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I'm sure you will understand that I can't name the river, as there will be no fish left fairly quickly. All I can say is it is in the North Island of New Zealand. There are many similar rivers here, but this one is special to me.

I have been waiting for someone to ask about snakes or bears. I'm more than OK with not having to worry about being mauled or eaten when stumbling around in our bush 😄. I do wonder about the hazards experienced by trout fishermen in other parts of the globe. The most dangerous thing I regularly encounter is Blackberry vines. Not really. It just looks that way on the action camera. I have to cross this pool at the tail end to be able to fish it. I can easily cover the undisturbed area of this pool that will hold fish from the head of it. The wide angle lens makes it look bigger than it really is.

@TroutSoloNZ Interesting, thank you,I'll definitely be trying it out. We usually use a floating line with a 9 to 15 foot leader or a full sink line with a short 4 ft leader. Your method seems very stealthy, thanks...👍

Yes, it seems to work well. It's not my idea, however. It's just a fairly orthodox Euro Nymphing setup. It relies on heavy tungsten beaded nymphs to carry the cast. I only use two different flies throughout the season. They are both featured in my two fly tying videos. If you are interested, watch those.

Started euronymphing last year. It really simplifies nymph fishing, and it is also very productive.

There was a resident Rainbow in the middle of the downstream pool all last season, but I never managed to hook it.

@@TroutSoloNZ I often fish alone myself, but when I hook something like this you'll hear me begging him not to come off, And when it eventually comes off-as they always do- will hear me swear a lot.🤣 it shows that you are calmer and in general a better fisher man.

I had a 50% day last Friday. Hooked 14 only landed 7. Plus, I forgot to record the biggest one that I did land. There might have been some swearing that day.

Yes. The last three videos were all filmed accidently with 2X zoom enabled on my camera. I have since replaced that action camera, as it was a recurring issue. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I usually turn them upstream towards the faster water at the head of the pool if there is a rapid downstream, logs, or I am unable to follow etc. I use barbless hooks and most of my Euro style hookups are in the upper jaw, right at the tip. These tend to pull if the fish gets too far downstream, and the line angle get too low. I do lose the occasional one when it jumps. They seem more prone to the acrobatics in early spring. Today, all the trout I hooked ran hard and deep, even the smaller ones. Thanks for the feedback. I don't think I will ever stop learning in this pastime. PS - I forgot to mention I only use 3X tippet. This allows me to put some extra heat on a fish and net it fairly quickly, rather than tiring it out on 5 or 6X. This means the fish gets released quickly and has a better chance of survival.

I'm glad you liked it. I have caught hundreds of trout on that fly in the two years I have been using it. It works all year, and on Browns or Rainbows.

I hooked these trout on my Euro Nymphing rod. I don't use a normal fly line. It is just a short length of non-tapered running line and never comes off the reel. The line I cast is just 12 or 15 lb nylon with heavy tungsten bead flies on a length of 3X tippet on the end. It is the weight of the flies that allows it to be cast. I will make a video soon of the setup used as I am getting a few questions about it. If I were fishing a more conventional dry fly or indicator nymph rig, a 9 foot 5 weight rod and Weight Forward Floating 5 weight line would be my choice. I hope that helps answer your question.

I know exactly how you feel. I only started this pastime three seasons ago. It's a very steep learning curve, indeed. Stick with it, though. It's worth the effort.

@@TroutSoloNZ thanks man. I appreciate it. I have been consistently catching fish but I still wanna learn all the different techniques. I caught a 20in rainbow on a copper john i tied the other day. I'm lucky cause the local river is a three minute walk from my front door.

Sounds like you are well on your way to mastering the art. I have some fishing near my house, but it's not high percentage water for sure. The closest decent fishing is an hour and a half driving, but I don't mind. It feels good to catch one on a fly that you made yourself.

Thank for watching, commenting, and the sub. I'm wondering if the water temperature doesn't have something to do with their fighting response. The last few times I have been fishing almost every fish headed downstream like it had decided to do a dine & dash.

This river is extremely picturesque for the full eight kilometres that I routinely fish. That is what draws me back. A full days fishing usually results in me covering only about two kilometres. I have subscribed to your channel and am enjoying your videos. I have just ventured into the world of Streamer fishing, so I'm picking up a few pointers from you offerings. I should be able to add some of my own "streamer" adventures soon. Catch you later.

I really only got it to do scenic shots of the river. The battery only lasts ten minutes. I thought I would have a go filming me fishing. Hooking up was a bonus. Not something I will repeat often. This was my first attempt, and I got lucky. It was already doing a flat battery emergency landing by the time I climbed the bank to land it. I don't mind filming my fishing, as I have the cameras that make it easy, but the fishing does come first. Thanks for watching, and commenting.

I got one those cheap DJI Neo's. Not very good battery life, but reasonably simple to use. It pretty much flies itself. The video quality is just OK though, and it struggles in any wind.

Thanks for watching and your nice comments. Visiting Washington State is on my bucket list, along with Alaska. While the North Island of New Zealand has some beautiful areas (and this truely one of them), it pales when compared to the South Island. Stewart Island ( the small island at the bottom of the South Island) is the real gem down here, in my opinion.

I'm not sure that the Rainbows ever leave the river. I wouldn't rule it out though. I do get occasional Browns that are very silver rather than the usual dark green tops and golden belly's. I assume these are recently in this river from the sea. Brown Trout are known to self populate some rivers in New Zealand from the sea, including this one. Thanks for watching and commenting.

The net is a cheap, unbranded one I picked up a few years ago. I recently replaced the net bag with a rubberized McLeans NZ one. The scale is fairly accurate, but it does stick sometimes. I only stick with it as it fits my belt holster really well. McLeans New Zealand make a similar one, but they are very expensive.

Hi Wil, Thanks for watching. Yes, we are spoiled in this country when it comes to trout fishing. We also have Redfinned Perch in many lakes and ponds. My Euro style setup is pretty much all leader. My flyline rarely comes off the reel spool. I use around 30 feet (10 metres) of 12lb mono up to the coloured sighter, then around 10 feet (3 metres) of 3X to the point fly. I have a 3X dropper tag with a second lighter fly running above the point fly up to 2 feet (0.6 metre) higher. The rod is a 10'6" 3 weight Euro specific 4 piece. The reel is a cheap Chinese full cage large arbor one I picked up a couple of years back. The flies are the ones I tied in the two my Fly Tying videos. They are the only nymphs I have used for the last two seasons and have accounted for around six hundred trout. I hope you manage to visit here one day for a fishing holiday. I don't think you would be disappointed.
