THUMBOFRULE - HEAVY BONES
Written, produced, performed, mixed and mastered by Adam Stanley AKA Thumb Of Rule
Video footage by Rich Crooks @richcrooksphotos
LYRICS:
Andy awoke one morning
He'd forgotten 'bout something important
All he could hear was the rushing of water
And sweat dripping from his brow
Andy left home in a panic, running
Followed the street to the ocean
Where he watched as the currents carried the ships
Away over the horizon
You can do anything your aimless brain imagines
Nothing is more important
As long as it's not avoidance, no
Carried along on the wayside
Andy struck up a conversation
With many a poet, painter and actor
Who were endlessly fascinating to him
You can do anything your aimless brain imagines
Nothing ...

SELF - RUNAWAY - FULL BAND COVER

As part of the Selfemeris tribute album to Self/Matt Mahaffey, I recorded a full band cover of Runaway, such a great power pop song. It was a fun challenge working out all the instrumental parts , synth sounds and harmonies. Matt continues to make songs that inspire me to try and do more by myself as a songwriter and d player. Love Self!

Brooooo do you have any more videos? This is fucking awesome
More of 10 years playing guitar, always refuse to try to learn the drums...i play now for a couple of months drums and i take it seriously! Not to much left to sell all my guitar stuff, but keep at least one single guitar for noodling...but i guess the best is to keep at least my guitars, if i need to compose with the band someday... Very hard decision, but with the drums i can unleash my stress, work my cardio, take a lot pleasure, instead the guitar. For me i always feel boring whrn i play the guitar. I am not saying that one is better than the other one, but in my case/personality, i'll go with the drums!! WHY I EVER TOOK IT SERIOUSLY BEFORE!!!
Miss the old SA music scene. Days spent at Burn in Durbs
Amazing cover.. 🤘
@@zazudmaris8863 that's very kind thanks!
Solid cover! 🦾
@@bencampbell198 cheers for having a look Ben!
Another killer playthrough! Very busy song as well, awesome job. PS. Please route that headphone cable behind your back :D
Thanks my man, yes i need an extension I can run down my shirt!😅
Woah!!! Excellent playing bro!! Really tight!! You’ve earned a sub and a like from me!! I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on my latest drum cover!! Cheers and Happy 2025!!
@@DezRundmkilla thanks very much dude, appreciate that! I'll have a look! 🤘
Daamn boiii! Tight as always
Thanks Mr T! Big compliment from you, you were always powerful with them kicks!
Fuck yeah! Power track, power playing. Nicely done.
@@scottwareham6987 Scotty dooo! Thank you man.
hey man! how are ya? so im 15 and i wanted to start learning an instrument this year, and im rlly leaning towards the drums, but idk, do you have any advice or whatever? great msc btw bro, keep it up!
@@tilapiapodre hey man, that is great to hear. If you lean towards something, you should just go for it. I know that the first time I saw a drum kit and was taught how to play one beat, that was absolutely it and I would spend all my time sat on my bed not even with a drumkit listening to the drums on all my favourite albums and trying to copy what I heard. This was of course long before the Internet was a thing but I still think that is one of the most useful things you can do when you are starting out. I would spend a great deal of time listening to other drummers and trying to identify at least which parts of the kit they are using so that you can take leaves out of their books, so to speak. this is where a lot of the FUN comes from. Learning how to sit properly for your body and hold the sticks and use good technique with your hands and feet is also really really important as it will keep you healthier on the drums and also allow you to do more, but the real fun comes from paying a lot of attention to music at what the drums are doing within the music, and really trying your best to re-create that - and eventually it will become your own thing. There is so much other advice I could give you, but if you were just starting out then I would say that this is some of the best stuff that you can always come back to and just keep with you for your entire drumming career.
@adamstanleydrummer7532 man, that was awesome to hear! really motivated me more to rlly go for the drums, thx man! ill follow on your advice and do my best to be the best i can be, thanks a lot man! have a good one, keep the great content up!
@ you're welcome man
Super bateria
@@MarcelinoManriqueYebra very kind, thank you man!
Tungt! 😅
i wish where a beer
I find women love the drummers more than any other instruments. If you can make people dance, you are going to get people's admiration.
Brilliant stuff mate ❤

I'm learning Guitar rn but Drums interest me so much but I'm afraid if I switched people will be mad at me 😂
SAMMEE
Would it be possible for you to do just a drum cover of this song? Fangclub is so underrated it’s hard to find scores
I could probably upload the drum cam footage, if not I can try do a full play through. However, I did change some of the parts as I sort of played it in a hurry for my cover. So some of the fills etc aren't exactly as their drummer plays them.
Wonderful Adam! Loyal to the original and beautiful sound. Thank you.
@@bluephoenix1911 I appreciate that thanks man!
great video man, im thinking of learning drums, im already a great rhythm metal guitarist, but for some reason the drums always seem so fun to play, thing is, i really dont have money, and also my parents would probly kick my ass out if i buy a drumset, acoustic is cheaper than electric here in argentina, so i dont really have much option, i'll see what i do tho
Thank you; it was mostly done as a bit of a joke but glad you appreciated it. I think if you want to play drums, get yourself a drum throne, a pedal or double pedal, and maybe play along to albums using your bed as a kit. I did this when I started to show my parents I was serious and eventually they got me a kit.
Fuck yea!
Ah cheers dude!
Can I find this on iTunes ?
@@chall3038 sadly not. The music is licensed by Sony South Africa, and there has been some hangup with The releasing it on streaming platforms. Unfortunately, I have no more information than this as I wasn’t part of doing that deal, but it is basically just a licensing thing. Quite frustrating as I would love to keep sharing it.
@@chall3038 I’ll tell you what, let me upload it to a dropbox from the CD that I have, and I can share it with you that way. Please send me a direct message and we can sort it out that way.
awesome cover!! discovered fangclub recently and randomly found your vid 🤘🏼
Thank you bro! Yeah I love their music, seem like nice dudes too
im not sure thats whats happening with the cymbals on the record at 1:30 and 2:12 and 3:42. Maybe I'm wrong but I think there he is crashing on more than just 2 notes
Oh dude you’re probably right but I did this about 4 years ago in a few takes! Cheers for watching though.
What snare are you using? Sounds great.
Great job bro!!👍
Thank you!
Sick 🤘
Cheers Stu; I can do it a lot better these days!
@@adamstanleydrummer7532 i know, you killed it at Chester a couple of weeks ago 🤘
No amps or electricity needed. But everyone else needs them to be at your level. You’re never out of tune with the other instruments. The only instrument that is completely customizable for you. Have 20 toms, or one or none. Get rid of the hi hat if you want, like Keith Moon. Play open handed, right or left. Little music theory needed. You don’t need keys, scales, modes, etc. Just time. Drums are also a great physical workout and stress reliever. Seriously, they keep you in shape. But you also get to sit down all the time too. Your brain having to coordinate all four limbs doing different things, is also a good mental workout too.
Indeed! I mean I did this video to sort of sell myself as a teacher or recording drummer, but what you've said is mostly true!
There is no band without a drummer. All other instruments are expendable.
I'd agree that a good band is largely defined by a good drummer and a good vocalist, but the best music is always the perfect mix of everyone's contributions. My video's about drums but really, I just like songs.
no band without a guitar, it does everything
im a youngster tryning to get good at an instrument before starting highschool (and, who knows, forming a band?) and i both love the sound of guitars and drums. i know they're both very hard to get good at, but with a little effort I could learn, i have the music in my genes, lol. except i have a big problem because, i want to learn both- and its quite annoying because when (if) ill join a band/make one, i dont really know which instrument to play? plus, if *ill* make the band, i might aswell be the lead singer. whilst i know i could play an instrument and sing at the same time, it kinda puts a limit too. i currently have an oldie guitar that i got as a gift and tried to learn a bit. i havent tried the drums yet, but still - i kinda need opinions! what should i try to get good at? guitar or drums? or both? (or just be a singer?)
If you’re torn between guitar and drums, maybe you’d be a great bass guitarist. 🤔
And bass is a great instrument for a singer.
Hey dude, sorry for the late reply. I sometimes forget I made this video! So, I can't advise properly as I've not heard you play or sing or whatever. I wouldn't really think about it in terms of limits or absolutes. I mostly play drums, but I sing and play guitar and write songs a lot too. To me, the song is more important than the musicians and even sometimes the musicianship. If the song rules, people will remember it. I think go with whatever is grabbing your attention and practice the shit out of it - OR you could practice alternating instruments on alternating days, make a little schedule for yourself, and see how that goes? I strongly recommend recording yourself playing so you can honestly hear where you're at and what you need to work on (or how you've improved!) - and maybe that will show you where to focus. Playing and singing is NEVER a bad thing - too many bands rely on the lead singer, and remember back in the day, everyone in the band used to be a singer. Like the Beatles or the Beach Boys. It's sort of lost these days. I hope that helps. Just try not to get too distracted and work hard and be honest with yourself about where you're at.
@@adamstanleydrummer7532 Thanks! Ill try my best :)
i have this exact problem. Anyways i know some bands that are self-producing and use a bunch of random instuments and mix different genres, but when playing live, they convert everything into the rock genre and take turns drumming/singing. maybe you could learn all and do that so it's not as limited to "im the drummer" and "Shes the guitarist".
Nice work dude! Don't know the band, but will definitely check them out, shot! (Gave me a bit of an Everclear vibe if I have to compare it to something)... 🤘❤🤘
Ah shot Dave! Yes they write awesome tunes. Very like nostalgic but fresh at the same time. Not super big but have done some big things. From Ireland.
As much as I love the more comedic points, the point about drums setting a foundation hit the most hard because I’ve heard songs without drums when they should and the music seems hollow and uncomfortable if ykwim
Yeah man! Drums and vocals are what really make bands sound good. It’s all important but if you’re got a good drummer and a good singer I feel like that’s much of the battle won. It depends on the music and the musicians, but think about most good rock bands: drummer and singer are good! Cheers for watching my dumb ass video.
@@adamstanleydrummer7532 yeah man, I’ve been listening to a lot of Jazz and the difference is night and day really. Loved the video man keep up the good work
