Episode 18 Autonomy
“You can either tell me what to do, or you can tell me how to do it. But you can’t tell me both, Sir” recounted my friend Nate Boaz, citing the words of a soldier during his days in the defense forces. Nate has a distinct take on life and leadership, having served in war torn regions during his years with the U.S. Marine Corps, before making an uncharacteristic pivot into the world of Human Resources via a career in strategy consulting. Nate and I were peers on the HR leadership team, and these debates were integral to our work in crafting people practices for Accenture. So it was not surprising that these words have stayed with me years later.

Episode 17 The Missing Link for Healthy Habits
Просмотров 1505 месяцев назад
A quick Google search on “habits” returns over 3.6 billion results. From articles to videos to podcasts to books, there is a plethora of information, and our desire for forming good habits knows no bounds as we constantly seek help from peers, coaches and trainers. Yet, there seems to be a chasm between our intention to form habits and our ability to make them stick. Most research suggests that...

As a Human Resources leader, I have dedicated my three decade career to exploring human potential and fostering high performance in individuals and teams. In the early years, it appeared that performance was driven by education and relentless hard work. However, as complexity and scale increased, effective collaboration emerged as a crucial factor. Episode 14 - 4 Principles for Sustainable High Performance
Просмотров 10 тыс.8 месяцев назад
The World Health Organization defines mental health as “a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.” Our research in Sapien Labs, drawn from over 1.3 million people who have taken the Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) diagnostic, shows three concerning findings: 1. The state ...

"The value of an idea lies in the using of it.” Thomas Edison. In my recent videos, I explained why performance management systems have failed. “We have always found that, if principles were right, the area over which they were applied did not matter. Size is only a matter of multiplication table.” Henry Ford. One of the most significant assignments in my career was leading the re-imagination of performance management in my company. There was growing disenchantment with the performance management system, which had attained a unique pos...
Episode 11: A Short History of Performance Management. And Why it has Failed!
Просмотров 7 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Ever heard of rank and yank? Stack ranking? Forced rating? If you've been in the corporate dance, chances are you've waltzed along the bell curve during annual performance reviews. The irony? The "top" (of the curve) is smack in the middle - the realm of the average performers. If that’s where you ended up, your manager may have sheepishly shrugged “Only x% got the top rating. But I fought hard...

“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children.” [Various] Sometime in my late teenage years I made a decision to not have children. I had grown up with a debilitating condition of asthma, which I wished not to pass on to another human life. Contemporary parenting is thus a second hand experience for me, mostly through my close friends and colleagues as they hav...

Просмотров 164Год назад
“Man is by nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human. Society is something that precedes the individual. Wonderful message of finding inspiration from our shared humanity. In times of great change, it's more important than ever to remember our universal connections - that spark of creativity, compassion and courage that lives in each person. Technology can assist, but our greatest innovations start from looking within ourselves and each other for answers. Thanks for the insightful perspective on embracing life's deeper lessons over its surface marvels. Huge Respect Rahul Sir!

    Really very insightful indeed Rahul. A cautious & patient approach needs to be adopted by parents to ensure healthy growth of youngsters. Well said, @paragpande6404. You hit the bullseye with your comments about small kids and nursery rhymes, etc., and mobiles. A real tight rope walk for young parents today, in nuclear families, between managing kids and their own professional life.

  • @paragpande6404
    @paragpande6404 Год назад

    Rahul- Thought provoking… often see young parents playing nursery rhymes and cartoons on smartphones to keep the kids engaged. There after one thing leads to another. While lot of driving regulations are cantered around protecting others, with smartphones it’s it is protecting your self during the early years. More so with increasing smartphone proliferation.

    Mr. reciter you forgot to recite a line" Where the mind is led forward by thee- (into ever-widening thought and action- and so on) Also, sequentially you must have recited "Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection" before you recite "Where clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit", then you missed aforementioned verse.
