You have spoken as far as you know. The simple reason that one who is addicted to sin cannot stop on their own should make you understand that merely telling them to stop will not yield any results. But if they are focused on Christ, by listening to the Word of His grace, despite their current addiction, they are changed from inside out (transformation). Telling them to focus on Jesus despite their sin is not giving them a license to sin but a strategy for their freedom. This is a simple principle of faith. I pray God helps you see this. But it works only for those who have received Christ. When one hasn't received Christ, sin has power over them, and they cannot stop sinning, no matter how many messages they listen to. If listening to messages could solve the problem of sin, Christ wouldn't have come. Hence, Christ is the only solution to sin. The reason people are addicted to sin is that sin has dominion over them, and it is so because they are still under the law and have not come under grace (Romans 6:14). So, the only means to stop sin from having dominion over someone is to receive Christ and come under grace. The question now is: Can someone who is under grace sin? Though sin does not have dominion over a person, such a person can still sin. But they would sin, not because the power of sin forced them, but because they chose to. This is where listening to teachings, good teachings, will help the person's mind to be renewed and experience transformation. For those who are addicted to sin, like those who watch adult films, they do so because sin has dominion over them, meaning that they are not yet believers. So, to help such people, teach them to receive Christ and to stop sin. After that, they should start listening to God's Word. It's wrong to tell people to continue sinning. All over the scripture, sinners are asked to stop. Even the early Christians in the Bible warned people to stop sinning. Asking people to continue sinning and listen to teachings will not help them stop. Such people need Christ, and they also need to be asked to stop. This explains why the Bible says we should flee from every appearance of evil. Asking people to indulge in sin is evil and against the teachings of Christ. The transformation process of a believer is progressive. When one comes to Christ, there is an instant change of the spirit, but the salvation of the soul is progressive. This means, not all your appetites or preferences before Christ leaves you immediately. I will explain this by sharing the story God used to teach me this truth. There was a group of friends who were addicted smokers before coming to know Jesus. After their salvation, they were still addicted to smoking but they now know that their addiction wasn't a good representation of Christ Because of this, they sought their Pastor for help. Their Pastor responded by telling them to try stopping, but each time they smoke, they should declare that they are the righteousness of God. This they did and after a while, they lost the appetite for smoking. Was the Pastor encouraging them to smoke when he said they should stop trying to stop smoking? no, he was giving them a strategy for freedom, which is faith in the finished work.
