I'm an outdoorsy railroad enthusiast. I love taking trains and trainspotting in exotic destinations around the world. I create RUclips videos documenting my travels, promoting train travel and nature escapes as ways to live and travel more sustainably. As much as possible, I combine this passion with my second love-hiking.

December is the perfect time to explore Thailand by train. The weather is pleasant, and the rivers, waterfalls, and reservoirs are brimming with water. To top it off, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and other operators roll out one tourist train ride after another during this season.
This year, 2024, feels extra special as it marks the debut of the luxurious Royal Blossom train on the tourist scene. After months of unsuccessfully trying to secure tickets, we finally managed to book a spot-and it was absolutely worth the wait. BUY ME A COFFEE: buymeacoffee.com/Mibal TIKTOK: @mibal_trains INSTAGRAM: @mibal_explores The third and final part of my 2024 journey through Laos begins in Vang Vieng, where I boarded the C82 “bullet” train bound for Boten. This was my first time on board of the CR200J, which was pretty exciting. While it doesn’t really go faster than 160 km/h, what the journey “lacks” in speed, it makes up for...

Yes, Between Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang, there are A LOT OF TUNNELS. The Train literally goes In and Out, and In and Out and In ... Not So Many Tunnels Between Vientiane and Vang Vieng, though. Perhaps the land between Vientiane and Vang Vieng is rather flat, while from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang is rather hilly. 😊
you're absolutely correct. I actually covered the stretch from Vientiane to Vang Vieng in my previous vlog and it was exactly as you've said! :)

Hello again😊 Olly watched this and ask curiously (in Thai) about.. -is this really his (your) voice? -where is he? -(climbing the train's roof scene) isn't he afraid the train will collapse?
Hello! :) Message for Olly: Hi Olly, yes I was a bit afraid when climbing the train because it was high and it would hurt if I fell. :) Olly, I wanted to ask if I could show the pictures you drew for me in one of my next video. Especially the one with unicorns. Can I? :)
@mibal10 Olly nodded as a consent. I also ask if she'd allow to let you post her photo too? she nodded again. So accordingly both cases would be fine na kha :)
@@ATITAOYOYO In that case, Olly and her drawings will be in the next video ❤️
Hi Michal 😊 Olly is miss you already 😄 look forward to your next vids ❤
Have a great day, you both. :)

I'm looking to travel this way to PATTAYA next year , just confirm please which station you boarded the train at ,,,was getting the ticket any hassle ??? thanks SYDNEY Dave .
@@davidwebb8380 Hey Dave, I boarded at Bangkok (Hualamphong) historic station and got off at Pattaya Tai. The tickets aren't a problem for this train (both ways) as it can't sell out. There are only 3rd class carriages as shown in the video. You can simply show up at the station 30 minutes prior departure and buy your ticket. Cheers!
1:45 Vientiane station is no way bigger than Bangkok. especially in terms of tracks and platforms
It sure isn't and, as you're saying, there is just one line as of 2024. I think I am saying in the video that it feels bigger and this is because it's literally in the only structure miles around, the station is waaaaay out of town.
Which month was this visit? Just curious because I’m going in December. Hope it’s not too cold;)
This was early November and the weather was just perfect. Would expect it a bit colder in December though, maybe 10-15 Celsius? Locals may want to correct me? In any case, have fun there! :)

Laos welcomes you. Although Laos is not as convenient as other countries, Laos people are kind and peaceful. May everyone who visits Laos this time have happiness
Thanks a lot. I had a great time traveling Laos. Will definitely be coming back at some point.

It would have been nice to know the costs of different stages of journey also the process you need to follow at the immigration point along with names of accommodations and prices.
I would recommend Richard Barrow's @thaitrainguide and www.thaitrainguide.com/ for detailed info on process, booking, updates etc. As for hotels, I am always trying to go for cheap but clean and location is key. If I remember correctly, the room in Vientiane was for 500 THB with buffet breakfast, the Esan Manka sleeper train then for something like 800 THB and that's pretty much it. Aside of visa fee, which is 40 USD, the rest were just minor expenses.
where are the people?🤔
Inside and smarter than me in this heat, I guess 😅

Have taken this train just for the experience .Also took the train to Chiang mai and back several times . As somebody said "its not the destination you should focus on but the journey itself ".
Nice! Journey is the destination!
Quand le monsieur compte j ai bien compris
These 3rd=class trains might lack the luxury and speed of their more expensive counterparts but I found them a very interesting way to mix with the locals who use them for their daily commute as well as see the countryside at a more sedate pace. I did the ride from Nam Tok through Kanchanaburi to Bangkok Thon Buri several years back - highly encourage anyone to try that too.
Couldn't agree more. It's usually at a slower pace we really get to explore things well. 😊
The Newspeak alone got my upvote! 😄
Wow, pleasantly surprised someone watched it that far! Cheers! 😂🎉
Very nice journey. Will follow your footsteps too. Thank you.
Please do and have fun!

I see you have a card to get on the train, what is it? How does one pay for a round trip ride for one day without too much problems?
@@GrantMcWilliams If I remember correctly, these trains are still within the Lisbon Metro system and so I just used my Lisbon 24hour pass. I am 90% on this one. Can anyone confirm?
Nowadays, there is a new Lisbon zone pass called "Navegante", it allows you to use Lisbon Metro and the Lisbon suburban trains (Cascais and Sintra lines), once you buy it, you can charge it with credits at various metro and train stations (ex. Rossio, Cais do Sodré, Oriente, etc...). If I remember correctly, the fixed price for the card is 0.50€. PS: The old Lisbon public transport pass used to be called "Viva Viagem", it was pretty much like Navegante except it had different modalities, one was just for the metro and transports within the city, the other one was the same except it included access to the Sintra line commuter trains.
@@walf8099 Thank you. Do you know if they have day passes or if it's by trip?
@@GrantMcWilliamsget the 24 hr day pass and not charge it per trip. It will cost a lot less if you travel around all day

@@mibal10 you were spot on! don't worry
Hi from Malaysia! Actually, it is against the to open the gate and stand within an area close to the railway line, railway workers must have forgotten to put the lock on the gate. Plus, speeds within the Kuala Lumpur regions won't be any faster in the coming time due to the mass renovation of the track. I suggest you trainspotting outside the KL region where speeds are much faster.
I closed it back nicely for them. The lock is probably there now. haha
This is a really nice simple video. Great work
Thanks! There is a bunch more on the channel with a similar vibe but from different places. :)
Cascais is more than a stop for tourists it’s considered very bourgeois and many Portuguese live here all year long. It is considered to be borderline high class with Estoril. It’s one of the more desired places for people that live in Lisbon that want to get outside of the city. It’s a high class suburb.
Some of the houses and villas I have seen there on my short visit were truly magnificent and thanks to the train line it's so convenient to get to Lisbon. I believe Sintra is not far by road as well. It's a great spot indeed.
@@mibal10 sintra is beautiful but it’s a mob scene with tourists.
This is lovely thank you.
thanks for watching! :)
Fantastic, thank you!
Glad you liked it!
@@mibal10 Yes, it is compelling to watch. I am interested in that old train you showed. If I was standing on the platform at the old Bang Sue Junction station facing KTW, would I have to to walk to the left or to the right to go to that train? I would love to take some photos in and around it!
@@gregsimmons1709 when facing the KTW, you will need to go to the left. The graveyard train of old Henschel locos is then about 200 meters away from the station. You can get pretty close by simply following the road lining the KTW in the said direction. That way you won't even have to cross the tracks that are used frequently. Have fun!
@@mibal10 Thank you for that information!
Do you go to the lake where you can rent a boat and bike or you can explore 101 putrajaya mall the second largest in the world
Thanks for the suggestions! We saw the lakes, they are really beautiful! :)
@@mibal10 This place is a bit boring during the day because there are fewer people, and the bus that connects from the MRT to the main place is quite limited in time. Only at Mall 101 are there many visitors.
Interesting point of view. 😉 We enjoyed watching 🍒🍒🍒
Kuala Lumpur definitely has the best transportation system in south East Asia region
Everything there smooth, clean, efficient, logical. Very nice experience. What caught us by surprise was the number of wagon's windows damaged by rocks. We saw "no rock throwing" signs at stations and quite a few broken windows too. I wonder what's the deal with that.
@@mibal10 Yes! That's a shame as you saw shattered windows on trains. Most are the latest models of commuter trains, with six cars long manufactured by CRRC, providing the worst quality compared to the older 3 cars long Hyundai Rotem sets. Plus, when trains pass by the rural area, some feral children pick up stones and throw them at the passing trains which are just speechless indeed.
I think Singapore is much better compared to Malaysia. West Malaysia is much more developed compared to East Malaysia in terms of public transport infrastructure, Despite being more developed, the developments are quite inadequate which results in white elephant projects. This is to say that infrastructure is being built but people don't use it due to all sorts of inconveniences and unavoidable circumstances. Also, just like the USA, Malaysian public infrastructures are mostly built on car-centrism, making it quite pedestrian-unfriendly, especially from point A to Z is the worst. Train frequencies are not so great, making it one hour per train, due to the lack of infrastructure capacity. Except for Kuala Lumpur, most major cities in Malaysia don't have mass transit so get ready for your personal transportation if you decide to travel across Malaysia. So that's my native perspective towards my local public transport :)
@@darrishng6540 I saw the signs first and was thinking like, is this a thing here, and yeah, not even 20 minutes later I saw that it is. Another surprise was that Lady coaches aren't really a thing as people just sit wherever they like. We were ready to walk through to the mixed, but it didnt seem to be a bother. Not that we encountered any bad pssenger culture at all. Everyone chill and friendly.
@@darrishng6540 thanks so much. We did see some of what you're talking about in Putrajaya. Thought of walking around as it's all green, but ended up doing Grab all day long. The employees at the railway station didn't even know if there are sidewalks on the bridges going to Putra Mosque. Turns out there are sidewalks, but the fact locals don't know of their existence speaks a lot about how man y people use them. haha
very nice video
thanks, it's a really lovely walk out there.
