Advice on how to remove and refit an EGR valve on a 2008 Kia Sportage 2.0 CRDI
Do you no were the pcv valve is located on Kia Sportage 2012
How can i get out the water tube that is from the engine head (passenger side) to the egr container? Help
Would have loved to have seen you refurbish the battery. I have a dead one and have no idea how to do it.
Watch skateboard battery building videos. Original cells are 40 off Lishen 1700 mahr LiPo cells. I purchased 40 2000 mahr cells from DoublePower in China. You need a cheap terminal welder, terminal an insulating materials and a hot welder gun to build the battery stacks. 10 cells are welded in parallel and then there are 4 groups of 10 cells in series to give the required output of 13.2v.

Thanks for uploading this video, I have an S1 Pro from around 2012 and this week its making a terrible noise so I am taking a punt and going to replace the motor and axle. I'll certainly use this video as a reference when I change mine, thanks again!
Thanks for your comment. Before you purchase the gearbox, detach the motor from the gearbox leaving it connected and run it just to check that the motor is not the faulty part.

Good evening I removed the ugr valve and place a plate at the level of the outlet it is for sure the full seal for the problem each time I change the valve electrons and the flowmeter and even with and whis motor now puissance

looked at this before starting and managed to take less off..IE no battery or hard intercooler pipe...just moved it slightly...the job wasnt the easiest as bolts were seized and the valve flange too.....thanks

Hi Michael very useful video. My symptoms were engine would start run for a couple of seconds and stop, restart same again. Disconnected EGR valve and it would start and run all be it not very well. Was not looking forward to the fiddly job but instead what I did was remove the solenoid top and squirt a combination o carb cleaner and WD40 into the EGR then tapped it in gently where it stayed stuck. Then with a small spanner I could spin the stem of the valve (it has a two flats on the shaft) a bit of patience and it moved back out, a few more squirts and repeated tap in turn till out and it popped free. It could then easily be pushed in by hand and popped straight back out. The whole process including removing air box and pushing turbo pipe to one side only took about 30mins. Breathe huge sigh of relief and cuppa and chocolate biscuit reward.
Great that you managed to free it easily. My clean egr valve lasted about 6 weeks before it started to stick again. So I repeated the job and replaced the valve with a new one. Hope yours lasts longer than mine did
Are you satisfied with your tuning box? Thinking of getting one myself but i am afraid that it will damage the clutch, gearbox or engine. How much miles has your KIA? Thanks for the good Video @Michael Evans
The box was great on the 2008 Kia sportage, ideal for towing a caravan, but the retuned box for a 2015 Sportage produces too much torque for the clutch and can spin the clutch when accelerating hard in 3rd and 4th gear

Just managed to do mine yesterday. didn't remove battery or turbo pipe. possible but fiddly. didn't cure my problem though as the valve etc was like new and had very little carbon build up. did it fix your problem ? if not what else could I try. stutters about 1500 revs. no lights on dash no fault codes. Drives great just the stutter. Idles nice etc. any help would be great thanks
hi guys,i have KIA sportage 2006 2.0 Diesel.81000 miles. the timing belt was changed but i got snapped and valves were damaged. the valves were professionally replaced and set but car doesn't start. it showed on computer no fuel supply, sent to electrician who diagnosed the immobilizer, i send the car to KIA dealer workshop, who said that the immobilizer is fine, Checked all engine no error but fuel pressure filter needs to be replaced, which has been replaced now. the injectors getting the fuel but doesn't start.... any idea????
hi micheal. i have a kia sportage 06 plate. when im in low revs the car is a bit jerky and stutters. if i turn on air condition the problem is not there. i have had it on 3 diffrent diagnostic machine and have no fault readings. do you think it can be the egr ? how much would a job be like this from a garage
Normally you will get some sort of code I.e P0401 or something like that if it is a sticking Egr valve but the jerking and stuttering can be caused by the EGR. I cannot understand why the aircon clears the problem if it is an egr valve problem. I would think that a garage would take around 2 to 4 hours to remove , clean and replace the egr, cost being dependent on their labour rate. A new EGR valve from Ebay is around £85.
My 2009 Shortage sort of hiccuped when in low revs and gears but didn't do it when the air-conditioning was on. I got an ECU update done at the Kia dealer and that cured that problem
When the Aircon is on the EGR doesn't operate. Strange but true!
@@daveyboy7138 hi - long shot, do you know what the ECU update did? Did it just 'stop' the EGR being engaged when air con off or saomething else? I have the same symptomsThanks
@@DaveF1510 hi. Not sure what the update did at the time, but hiccup came back do I replaced the egr valve, that didn't work either. I gave up in the end and traded the car in. Sorry it's not much help
The document that i started with is here, www.justanswer.com/uk-car/6z6um-kia-sportage-ex-easy-remove-egr-valve.html However I did not removed the section of the turbo pipework attached to it. I also removed the egr cooler and egr valve together and separated them on the bench. In simple terms, 1. Create access on the right of the engine by removing battery, and most of intercooler pipework 2. Loosen the fuel rail and parts on top of the engine to allow cooler and egr vale to be pulled between these and the block. 3. Undo the 5 fixings in the video to free the egr valve and cooler assembly. The rear gas cooler fixing is the most difficult to access and is where i used a 1/4" socket , 1/4" extension with the universal joint, but it's not too difficult. 4. Separate on bench. Note: it is quite difficult to clean inside the egr effectively especially if you find that the shaft is sticking . As you see in the video I thought that i had managed to free the shaft, But i had the same problem a month later so i ended up doing the job again and replacing the egr valve.

Great Video Michael. I have a Hyundai Tucson 2006 whish is basically the same car. With the help of your video I got my EGR valve off and cleaned. When I refitted it I put in a blanking plate in which I had to take out and add a 8mm hole. So far it is working a lot better than it was, time will tell!!
Thank you, well done. Did the bolts come loose easily? I am very relucent to start this job on my Sportage out of fear of breaking something on opening.
I was a little daunted by the job at the start but the manifold bolts and egr bolts camw loose wit a little WD40 and some effort. The job is not as difficult as it seems. remove the air inlet ductwork, intercooler pipework and battery box to access te egr valve and ducting fixings. The top rails come undone easily and the only difficult bolt is the bolt holding cooler to the block but use the method that i folowed and all should be ok

Hi Caroline, What do you need. I have shown the fixings which need to be accessed to remove and refit the the valve and cooler as an assembly In my video i mentioned that the stem of the valve was sticking. I cleaned the valve and made sure that it was free but the problem manifested itself about a fortnight later so i ended up buying and fitting a new EGR valve, £84. Since then the car has been running well.
@@michaelevans6735 hi you said the egr valve was sticking by the velve stem could it have been striped and cleend .my car would not start and it was the egr valve sticking the repair man took the top of the valve and sprayed the valve with releesing fluid and hit it with is rachit to free it off and its been fine since the car as only don 30 thou and i dont think it would be coked up yet .just trying to make my mind up wether to leave it alone or to strip it .
@@colinmachin6526 hi Colin, I tried to clean my egr but the valve cannot.be stripped easily and I ended up just cleaning it and freeing off the stem. It worked ok for a few weeks but i had to replace it a few weeks later with a replacement valve (approx £35 from ebay). Recommend that you replace the valve as you cannot clean the stem to a condition that you can rely on.
@@michaelevans6735 hi thanks for the information you made the removal of the egr valve look easy .when i looked at the job i thought it looked difficult .was there no way of stripping the vale as mine as only done 30 thou and its the valve stem that seems to be sticking .how long did it take you to remove and replace it .thanks for your time
@@colinmachin6526 Hi , i do not think that the valve stem can be removed from the housing without destroying it. As i said, I tried to clean mine and got it moving quite freely as your can see on the video. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED WITHIN A FEW MONTHS. The cost of a new replacement has dropped considerably since i did the job (saw valve on Ebay for £32 approx) so i am recommending replacing the valve. Yes i was nervous about the complexity of the job when i first started but it is not as difficult as it looks. I removed the battery and turbo air ducting to get access to the two fixing nuts at the bottom of the valve. I have seen a post that this can be achieved with removing the ductwork. The fixings at the other end of the cooler just need an extension and socket. I used a 3/8" socket set as i think the 1/2" socket set would be too awkward to manipulate. The first time took 4 to 6 hours but i fitted the new valve in about 2 to 3 hours as all fixing had been released previously and i new what i was doing.
The box is a tuning box by Blue Spark. This increases the power of the engine to around 175 BHP which beneficial for towing a caravan
What is additional box installed with strap? I guess its chipbox, can you write something more.
