A short video on my take filing jig, first time doing a video for youtube sorry for my lack of camera skills. If I failed to explain why or how something is the way it is feel free to ask questions.

The knife is a little bigger than I normally make and I tried a new pipe that was thicker than normal but the sheath came out really good. If there is enough interest I will make a video of my process for making them.
Awesome informative detailed video young Man! Exactly what I needed to make sheaths for some of the items I'm making!
Good job. 👍
super nice job on that sheath...........I picked up a very large, Shrade hunting knife off of Ebay for $10 that had no sheath, so this is gonna be the perfect fix for that, thanks for sharing your methods.
Mmmmmmmm.... titty pics!
How thick is that plastic
Just getting ready to make my mk2 love the idea of the hinges. Might have to borrow that idea
So I don’t understand why people put the handle in the sheath? I like being able to grab the full handle and pull it out. Is there an upside to having most the handle in the sheath?
In the third video I have removed quite a bit of the sheath that enclosed the handle, some of the handle has to be inside the sheath to act as a catch point.
Scott Hutchinson yes I definitely was more referring to a lot of the leather “bushcraft” sheaths that a lot of people seem to be into these days. I love the design of yours, and the video. I just thought this was a good place to ask other knife loves their opinion, more then i was actually referencing your video. Have a great day, and thanks for posting
Great video. Would have been nice to see the actual filing.
Sorry, one handed camera operations is not my specialty. If I can answer any questions about that process I would be glad to.
@@lagnafaff do you plan to make any more videos? I get a lot of deep scratches when filling. As you go up the bevels do you switch to a finer file?
I use a double cut for the majority of the filing, I do have a finer single cut that I have used to remove the deeper scratches before sanding however I have found that a small and cheap wet stone is the easiest way to clean up the deep scratches on the bevel. You can run it the whole length of the bevel or just use it like a pencil eraser in smaller areas.
At 1:53 of the video you can see the small piece of wet stone sitting by the Sharpe. I don't have any current plans to make any knives or videos, hoping life will allow hobbies to resume next year.
Give me advise How you can speak too much like that
Nice job but you explain toooooo much no need for 3 vedio one enough
3:25 its a plunge line my dude
What did that poor, innocent water bottle ever do to you?
rickd248 it failed to meet my hydration expectations so it had to be removed from the gene pool.
How much would you charge to make a sheathe or two? Maybe I can refer people to you?
And how did you get the pipe insulation to stay flat
would any flat file work or do i need a double cut flat file?
Dustin Pahl life is easier with a double cut, you can file in either direction.
Oh ok thanks
Nice design.
you're a good man. for making that blade for that boy. Prayers to all of you. And it keeps me and my moral compass in check with my career. knowing they're are still good people out there.
Nice jig dude! I just made one similar and quickly realized like you said I don't use very many of the up & down holes. I think my next one will be about identical to yours.
No one else on RUclips has been very much help, so I'll try asking you. I built a filing jig and bought a few files for doing different things. The one I got for my filing jig doesn't have any teeth going down along side of the file. my question is, will I still get a good plunge without teeth on the side of the file, or do I need to buy one with teeth going down the side? Thank you for your time.
Thomas Starkey you will still be able to get a plunge line. Not having teeth on the edge of the file may be to your advantage, it will assist in keeping you from walking your plunge line back while you are filing. If all else fails trial and error on a scrap of metal and see how it works for you.
Scott Hutchinson Thank you sir. it's much appreciated.
Please show the details.
Your rig is crude. It's very simple but I really do like it.
gary gibbs You should check out my channel, I built a slightly less crude version with some creature comforts.
what rivets do you use?
So when you flip to the other side. Do you just grind from the final height of your first bevel all the way down? I want to get into this hobby but I can't find a video or explanation of getting eat side even after the flip.
Cody Maasen I raise the eyebolt back up to a steep angle and gradually lower it for each side. Once I am at the center line and pretty even on both sides I lower the eyebolt one turn and file each side at that height. With a homemade jig it will never be 100% even but it is close enough you can't tell.
Scott Hutchinson So you start from the top on side one. Move down. File. Move down. File. Till you are at the right spot. Flip Then go all the way to the top and repeat back down making roughly the same adjustments on the way down. Just trying to summarize.
Cody Maasen pretty much, file side one until I am at the center line, flip it and file side two until I am at the center line, then lower the eyebolt one turn and file both sides at that height.
Best hand file jig on youtube - thanks on my way to the hardware store
Thanks for sharing mate....
This is great instruction ... thanks so much. Wondering what paint, for adhering to PVC, works best? Any painting advice would be so helpful. Regards, George,
I use cheap paint from Wal-Mart. I seal it with a spray crafts enamel. In my experience for the best adhesion you have to do multiple thin costs of paint.
Last question, I promise =) Can't seem to find this green sewer pipe in the thickness you describe. Wondering if there might be a number/identification printed on the pipe itself? Looks like the perfect thickness for the sheath. Wish there was an actual schedule "30". No such luck. Thanks again for your patience/support. George
+George Mohr no worries about asking questions, I am more than happy to answer them. Unfortunately it's not labeled schedule 30, I more likened it to a thickness between actual schedule 20 and schedule 40 pipe. I have the pipe laying behind my house and will look at it tonight and see what it says. I'm not sure where you live but you can check a Tractor Supply or a "farmers" type of store and see if they sell schedule 20 sewer drain, it is actually a preferred thickness for these sheaths.
Thanks again Scott ... Please take a look at the pipe later when time allows. In the meantime, I'll try the tractor supplies, etc. I'm in Northern California ... it just shouldn't be this difficult ... must be me having another Senior Moment =)
+George Mohr I did a Google search and found what they are calling "PVC Drain and Sewer Pipe ASTM D-2729" It's not giving a schedule but I believe this is what you would be looking for.
to a prendendo muito com seus videos e melhorando cada vez mais as minhas bainhas abraço.
P.V.C Tático vc tá um mestre já tá dando muita dica bacana aq no br pra gente
have a question for you can you use the same technique to make axe sheaths i have a old hatchet/ hammer that goes just bout every where with me been tryin to figure out a sheath for it to heavy for leather streches it to much
Absolutely, I made one for my hatchet. It's basically a cover for the edge and I used elastic cord to secure it behind the hatchet head.
Thanks great videos also made my first sheath today
What size pipe insulation did you use in your press and what was the thickness? I am having a very hard time trying to find this. Thanks
It's 3/4" thick, if you Google search "chilled pipe insulation" you will find lots of options.
Best I've seen on RUclips
Thank you!
it came to be because you copied Gough Customs design. it would have been good form to give him credit for it. it is clearly based on his design.
In the first 15 seconds I claimed to have received my ideas from several videos I watched not just one and more than once said this isn't my idea but what I built for myself. Thank you for the comment.
+William McBride gough got his jig from some one else
@ William McBride So by that measure, every car designed everywhere should have an explicit credit to Karl Benz since he invented the first automobile... So long as he isn't running around advertising that he invented it from scratch, and he's the originator of all things like it, and any others are stolen from him, then he is well within fair use and not doing anything wrong.
Nobody Uknow I agree with your point, and not trying to be a nit picky ass hole, but Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot was the first person to design an automobile capable of human transport... it was steam powered.
^_^ designing however is not creating... and to be considered to have invented something, the usual prerequisite is it existing when you're done.
Wow, so easy... Thanks, like it...was seaching for a better way to do it, cheaper as kydex? Regards from Germany
Pode ser com esopor? por que não consigo está espuma

Hey mate was the pipe in those colours when you bought it? All we have I Australia is orange electrical conduit and grey and white for water. Cheers
Here in the states it comes either white or that green color. The key is finding the thinnest walled pipe you can, schedule 20 is the best.
+Scott Hutchinson Ahhh no worries mate just wondered if it was painted or something special thanks mate. Great vid by the way.
+James M Thank you very much!
Nice job ! Thanks for sharing . Do you also make knives.
Thanks for watching! I do, I made the knife in this video.
Very nice and basic. I like the idea of the curtain rods. Thanks. Nice vid
Nice, made one almost the same, but didn't come up with the bearing idea, that's great and simple.
Thank you, you should check out the video I uploaded called "New filing jig" made creature comfort changes to it.
Sorry, could you tell me for what kind of PVC did you made it? I have big problem with it. My PVC (waste water pipe) is to much heat resistant and it defficult to form it.
We typically use sch 20 sewer drain pipe, some of the new pipe we got is a little thicker. The key is to heat it slow and thoroughly. What are you using to heat it up?
the best set of videos I have seen on making knife sheaths out of pvc
Thank you very much Jeremy, I was worried that even though I know what I am doing I wouldn't do a good job of showing it or talking about.
Great video! Looks like this foam is working well for you. Could you comment further on what and more importantly where you got it from? This would be much appreciated!
A friend of mine works for a large university and happened to come across some scraps for me and thought they may work. It is chilled water pipe insulation, it comes in different thicknesses and diameters so depending on the size of your press. If you have any additional questions let me know and thanks for watching!
Scott Hutchinson Thanks!
How did you make you pin bearing?
Did you watch the video? He tells you at 5:00
Awesome job, can you show how you made this?
Absolutely, should have a knife ready here soon and will make a sheath for it.
