Im 511, high bars feel great for downhills but tight turns and turns at high speed i lose grip on the front im a bit back, 35 rise and 10-15 stack depending on the trail feels juiciest to me.. 35 stem
5’8” running 50mm bars & 60mm bars on the DJ, so much easier to pull up for a bunny hop or manual that’s reason alone to go higher
Bald Mat Watson...from Carwow 😮
If the taller guy has longer arms, his centre of gravity in his torso is pushed further up and back. The shorter guy is possibly replicating the same body position with higher bars.
How is matey explaining that the low bar setup feels like his weight is further back? That’s the complete opposite reason why XC racers have longer slammed stems.
Rise would b better down hill obv
Rise looks cooler 😎
I fine most bikes now come with a lower front end, I don't like it, It makes me feel like I'm leaning over the front of the bike too far, like I am too far forwards on top of it, the longer your inside leg is the higher you are in relation to your bars and the more you are leaning forwards and over to reach them. I'm only 176-177cm but I have quite long legs so I always fit riser bars to compensate for this, I try to get my weight central on the bike by adjusting the bar height and reach, I don't want to be unweighting either of my wheels in my natural riding position when standing up. It's also easier on the back like addtext says.
I think the conclusion might be: height doesn't really matter, it's more what you're used to.
Neither is better. It all depends on riding style and body position. One is not better than the other. This is how you get newer riders buying all sorts of useless stuff becasue they see a video like this
I am 6'4" and use an 80mm riser bar. My bike is a Specialized Kenevo SL in size XL.
I hate this type of review because the Best bar height is the one that works for you NOT what someone else thinks 👌👍
GiveItaGo? GiveHighBarsaGo!
“Best”.
Does this mean that Ste is going to have a load of different bar and stem combos for shop trials? 😂
yes!
Im 5'9" and i run 90mm rise bars (and around 40mm spacers) on my 23' trance x 27.5. To me it just feels natural, much more alike to moto. I dont really feel any drawbacks, even on super steep climbs.
Possibile to remove speed limit??
What about dirt jumping with different bar heights like the 6 pack at chicksands?
I had 15mm rise bars on my last bike and always felt hunched over the front so when I was building up my new bike I put 38mm rise bars on it and I much prefer them!
Im digging my Deity 80 -anyone know of any taller bars in 31.8?
i like my bars high rather have too much leverage than not enough
Would you buy it again?
100%! Between this and the SC Vala
Thanks for the reply, I am seriously considering buying this bike. Thank you for the video, very informative.
If I got it right, you said that lower bars put your weight further back. I think it's other way around, but maybe you were over compensating? My understanding is that usually when you switch to the higher bars you need to learn how to keep enough weight on the front wheel by changing your body position. Contrary low bars are keeping more wight on the front wheel "automatically". Otherwise I'm all about high bars, running 60mm rise, but I'm 6'7 with 6'11 wingspan so for me it's not extreme but minimum :D
its more that low bars mean you have to position your weight backwards to get towards the middle of the bike. Where as high bars just out you there.
@@BRINKUK hmmm so it would be: low bars too much forward >>> high bars, middle position? I guess you can look at it that way too :D
Dean doing science...😂
Stop advertising this ! I need all the advantages I can get 😂. 80mm deity 🤐
I run a 60mm spank bar. Love it for general trail riding for all the reasons you mentioned. However, during a recent enduro race, when I had to hammer out of the saddle for the inevitable sprint section, the downside to a high bar made itself obvious - I could not get my body shifted forwards and low enough to really lay down the power for a put of saddle sprint. It was perhaps the only instance where this setup falls down (Dak Norton mentioned a similar observation in an interview too). I never sprint during trail rides, so this went unnoticed til then. I think I’d definitely run a lower bar for enduro races as sprinting in not my forte and I need every bit of advantage
I am 6 ft 2 inches tall and went from a 30 ml riser bar to a 50 ml riser bar and I'm now at a 76 ml riser bar and I love it. I feel much more in control and it is definitely easier on my back. I will not be going back and I'm trying to recommend my friends try it but they all think I'm cuckoo.
Didn’t know they got measured in millilitres. 😜
What an interesting video ! I am on the other extreme: zero spacers, 30mm stem with zero rise and 15mm rise bars... Keep on riding !
Couldn’t you find a shorter track 😂
Gotta ride what youve got!
I'm 6'2" and run my bars as low as possible with no spacers beneath the stem. Tried running higher bars but it just feels wrong and causes me a lot of triceps pain. But I do have extremely long arms and legs. My take is that people with short arms benefit more from higher bars
BB to BAR is what matters, trust me I know what I'm talking about, don't bother measuring bar height from the ground
We trust you!
But if 2 bikes are the same, the difference is the same, floor to bar or bb to the bar, right?
I’m 6ft 3. Having just spent the past couple of weeks trying to demystify why I’m craving a higher bar on my new full 29 rig this video was a great watch! I think perhaps the geometry of a lot of new enduro rigs means our weight distribution relies more heavily on weight through the feet, even when cornering and as such a higher more comfortable cockpit, without the need to be worrying quite as much about pressing weight through your front wheel, makes everything else feel much more schwweeet. 🤔 The jury is still out! Great video 👏
Cheers dude!
Arm length doesn't enter the discussion often enough.
Every body will /need/ different dimensions from a given bike. So splitting hairs between 40 and 50mm is silly. But fundamentally, all things normalised, if you're front is higher you will feel more 'behind' your bike even in steeps.. whereas the low bars will have you feeling still 'ontop' of your bike even in steep climbs. With higher front end you also get more leverage over the bike when it comes to manuals/bunnyhops etc SO with those things in mind, can you get the best of both with.. god forbid... drop bars?! Where you have a high set for descents and a low set for climbs xD
Can someone help me? Im about 5'9" and im riding a giant trance medium, bars 810mm and stem 50mm. Only had the bike just over a month. When i got it the stem was as high up as possible and when i first rode it it felt high to me and twitchy, so i dropped it about 20mm. It seems to feel better than when i first got it, now im seeing a lot about raising the stem and bars and how it can improve handling. I know my bars are too wide really and need to be cut down about 30-40mm for me. Should i go back to a higher stem now im more used to and confortable on the bike? Was it just being so out of practice or can having high bars feel more twitchy? Or maybe im andeering my own question and should lift them up and try again and experiment. Also would a shorter stem benefit me at my height?
Cut the bars down to around 760 and that’ll put you in a more upright position anyway, so in effect raising your bar height. For reference I’m 6,2” and run 740mm bars with a 50mm rise.
@@elliotmachin5452 thanks mate I'll cut them shorter and see how that helps!
@@elliotmachin5452 agree with this
are those 27.5 wheels or are you guys just huge ?
just huge!
pretty used to a low setup, have low rise and slammed stem on a modern bikes (rise and spur). I feel like especially with long travel forks I feel like things are more vague with a high rise and stack. I think a lot of it is just that I have a lot of miles and recent miles on a low stack setup. I just feel more aggressive all around with the lower rise setup and to be honest the position is really nothing compared to riding a fast road bike.
I've been using 65mm riser bars for years...miles better.
I always use burtec high ride 50s wouldn't use any other, im on my 4th bike using these 😊
6'3" and run a 115cm bar height from the ground on all 3x of my bikes with 18mm stem. Central upright position is key for comfort and weight balance.
I’m 5’9 medium with a low stack 619mm. I run a 10 degree Funn stem 50mm length and 60mm spank bars and 35mm spacers. It’s a looks goofy but it doesn’t strain my lower back and shoulders👍
I have an XL bullit, and am 6'2 long in the torso. I put 80mm deity highrise bars on, and increased my fork air-spring from 170 to 180mm. I would go higher, by 10-20mm if I could but there isn't an easy way to do that
Higher bar set up makes all the difference! you need to check out the Rulezman V3 stem. Also check his video on stem lengths. If you don't want to fork out $300-400 on a stem that may not work for you, you can test with a cheaper version such as Aerozine XNC 10. $64 (USD) but shipping is another $60. Last week Intend released their new forks as well as a new stem GRACE DD - 25mm stem length where the bar is mounted above the steerer similar to Rulezman and Aerozine. Also worth checking it out. It all looks counterintuitive, especially if you are coming from a long-ish 50mm stem. But trust me, it is ok! It feels really good!
You could get 10mm from a stem. Check out the Funn Equalizer.
@@MostBallinestPlaya Nice, I think I'll get one.
I got a Heckler SL running 28mm Spacer 40mm stem stack 50mm deity bars currently sits at 113cm putting 170mm zebs on next week so should have a 643 stack height previous bike had 60mm rise bars. Big bars for FTW
I like 70mm rise bar. I kept rising them until it felt right due to an injury and then kept them high. Did 15 years on low bars and only ride high bars now. Yeti SB 130lr. It is more comfortable on most trails and I am faster at bike park as well. I have long legs so able to move up on seat when climbing.
Everything about the purple bike setup makes you stand up more on the bike. Like how jackson goldstone rides. You always have the option to put more weight over the front if you need it.
Haven’t even watched this yet but can answer it, Ratboy for the win 😎🐀
This makes me rethink EVERYTHING
maybe just start with handlebars...
What rise where both of the bars I didn’t catch you actually say ?
I'm 6'5" and have just started running 70mm rise bars. After decades of riding bikes with much lower front ends, it feels like I've suddenly found perfection and I definitely won't be going back to low rise bars. The only negative I could find was steep climbing but descending was a revelation. Fwiw I'm also running quite a few stem spacers and 50mm DMR Defy stem.
I'm 202cm, riding the transition spire XXL, running the same stem, the bars are spank 75mm the bike is much more playfull on the descend, easier manuals and bunnies, but found it a bit unstable when have a hard landing (exp overshooting or a bit sketchy landing)
i'm 5' 10" and im running 85mm deity bars .... i love it i feel i can manouver the bike a lot better under me
Same here, starting to put 70mm rise bars on all my bikes 😂
What travel is the Fork ? Sorry if I missed this !
170mm
What do you weigh and ehat does the other guy weigh that opted for the Fox 36? Im about to buy one and was thinking of a 38 as I weigh 190 lbs.
Ste is around 95kg and matt with the 36 is around 89kg
