    His crawlers from the side come in late to the center fight while yours stay on the outside perimeter. Your upfront crawlers get killed before they can spread and his scorps take out your spiders and fangs in one or two hits. So he had more time, and his scorps sealed the deal.

  • @TheSquishQT
    @TheSquishQT 2 месяца назад

    It was a very tough board to crack! Glad I was able to help! Fun fact ; we actually went about the replicate crawlers completely differently. I played triple (mass recruit) and sold the tarantula you had on the flank, and played for both sides. I didn't hard commit to one side like you did. I think there are multiple ways to go about it but this board's weakness was definitely to spam, not enough chaff clear for them, and crawlers were by far the most "replenishable" option while being the best vs the shields as well. Best of luck onwards! 2000 rating no vulcan soon. Edit: This strat required shielding both sides though, or one side as you did, which might've been very hard to predict in real time in a game in all fairness.

    Since the new patch, I'm finding this game much less fun, win or lose. Every game seems to be a straight stomp from the first round (at ~1300 MMR anyway)

    • @-NR-SirLimbo
      @-NR-SirLimbo 3 месяца назад

      Hm, I can't confirm. I've seen plenty of turnarounds, had some myself. What MMR are you at? I think it's really just that the major problems, fire on the ground and melters being too strong, haven't been fixed yet. So a lot of games follow a similar formula because the meta has not been shaken up enough. My own opinion is that fire on the ground needs to lose like 50% damage and melters need to lose 50% health at least, then you nerf fort and crawlers a bunch and the game should be in a better state, where lots of plays are possible.

    So I read in some Steam reviews that the matchmaking is rough because apparently you get matched against super veteran players and get smashed all the time. Is this a valid complaint? The game looks sick and I want to get into it.

    • @-NR-SirLimbo
      @-NR-SirLimbo 3 месяца назад

      I don't get the feeling that is true, outside of tournaments. On the ladder you get ranked based on MMR and will usually meet opponents somewhere in that range, though if not a lot of people are playing for that gamemode (there's 1v1, 2v2 and FFA) the matchmaking progressively searches in wider MMR ranges. I think in tournaments within a group, within the same Win/Loss score the highest ranking player based on combat power will be matched against the lowest ranking player, and if there's not an even number of players with the same Win/Loss score it takes from the worse Win/Loss score group (I hope this is possible to follow). What that means is that usually in tournaments if you are a low-combat-power player you get stronger opponents and vice-versa, but then again: This optional tournaments, the whole purpose is to bang heads with high-level players. Personally I think it's an opportunity for lower-ranking players to have some matches with far better players and learn some.

    Hey, I'm not so sure he was experimenting (especially that on his level of experience it's hard to experiment in this rather trivial scenario). I think he just made mistake and you (maybe a little by accident) succesfully capitalized on that. So the second pair of Stell Balls was to occupy the Fire Badgers (generally anti-chaff is counterd by HP/tank units), this was important so the second volley of Storms would hit this last crawler up front, give more time for Balls, what would let the crawlers past through and do damage. You were a Giant Spec. and his board suggest that he also wanted to cover this posibillity with Balls. In the third round (when the second pair of Balls were bought) he actually made a brekthrough. But you purchesed Phoenixes, that also counter Stell Balls. So in a fourth round he went into crawlers to draw back your Fire Badgers and add more chaff to counter Phoenixes. If you watch closely you can see that what didn't worked was: - on a left flank only one crawler of Badgers occuping crawlers went with the main strike and this wasn't enough to made initial breakthrough (but also you were lucky with Storms salvo) - on a right flank larger group of crawlers separated itself and, during the Storm second salvo, some of theme were closer than balls. But maybe here happend the assault Storms magic. Because of lesser range they are closer to the front line, but their dead zone stays the same. So they can not targer those crawlers, insted getting second hit into Balls. Then he also makes the breakthrough, and his defeat is less severe than the previous one (~500, 38% less then in third round). You respond accordingly with more Badgers, he also makes only good choice and buys Wasp..., but this is a different story. The mistake he makes is buying those second pair of Balls, but only because how you played. Phoenixes were the most punishing choice that you made, but only because Badgers were on board. Also why those Balls were usefull proves round . He just didn't had a time. And that's why I think it was a mistake.

    • @-NR-SirLimbo
      @-NR-SirLimbo 3 месяца назад

      Well, that certainly is an analysis... Thanks a lot, I did not really know what he was thinking here. My own feeling is kind of that he got himself into a bad spot when he committed into mass wasps and mass stell balls in standard. Also, he should most certainly tried to get that high-level rhino onto a tower as fast as possible, but maybe he always expected me to put something big in its was or something...

  • @Surrexit_Iesu
    @Surrexit_Iesu 4 месяца назад

    I was watching his mustangs on your left and I just waited for the moment they start making problems for you. I fell he was wery transparent about the way he would like to play this. You struggled, especially later with mealtas on board, with effecient chaff-clear. I mean sledges were good to win some round, but they were clearly not enough. I would buy at least one arclight on the middle early to draw some crawlers there and relieve sledges. Also in the last one my pick would be firebadgers with range and napalm to clear the board for meltas. Lately I finde this combination do amazing work and this try to acomplish same goal as suecide rhine tried. Anyway thanks for sharing this replay, another interesting game.

    • @-NR-SirLimbo
      @-NR-SirLimbo 4 месяца назад

      I guess you are correct, I was once more adding anti-giant when I should have added anti-chaff units. His Mustangs... I'm not really sure they were the problem. I think I failed to clean up the flanks in time so my mustangs were just shooting tanky units until the match was over. If I had sold something on my left and put another explosive rhino there, maybe mobile beaconed my mustangs to the front that could have done more. But realistically I don't think it would have changed enough. In retrospect I think the correct call would've been selling all units on that side and simply fortifying the tower, then focus on the main push on the right. EDIT: I forgot, he placed the firebadgers in the flank that last round, so no reacting to it unless I predict what he does. Though, given how often aggro players put firebadgers in the flank, I think it's actually preditable at that point. I was just expecting some fire badgers at the front, hence the oil. You'll see me use selling out of the left to dominate the right in M(atch)186. I go for some mad Vulcan Marksman. Though for now I will neither confirm nor deny winning that one, you'll have to see. But in M188 you will also once again see me struggle with aggro that also has a heavy focus on flanking, and I definitely know that I made a looot of mistakes in that match. In the end, I think it simply shows I need more experience.

In the base game, if memory serves, you'd cap out at level 20 instead of 30 so you couldn't get all components to max level and had to pick really carefully.

    This video was insightful on how closing games fast : He started bleeding life and was forced into reactive plays, while you could keep surprising him with wierd plays before coming into a late game.

      I'm not 100% sure this is the best example, tbh a lot of things I did were quite a risk (for instance: The amp core shield phoenix flank would've done nothing if he had put a pack of fangs instead of a marksman there), but yes, the idea of being annoying in the flanks is to force your opponent to use deployments and supplies where it will hurt them more than it hurts you to invest into that flank.

    Have been playing a lot with a friend. What advise would you give to new players who want to learn to be more efficient?

      Effective in what way? Supply efficiency probably is achieved simply by some very simple stock-standard tips: - Try to pick eco options when it makes sense, estimating the game's length by how the previous rounds went (if the game ends being close sniper-on-sniper wars there will likely be little damage and thus a longer game than if it's a giant war) - Try to sell off units that don't do anything and don't have a realistic perspective of doing anything in the future - Try to not invest into techs too early, or with too few of that unit type on the board (excluding situations where it is vital to do so and provides a potentially game-winning or loss-preventing advantage)

    Yeah, mustangs would have been better, especially on the round when the wasps were offered. Lots of weak chaff on the field, 1 or 2 levels in and the mustangs would be able to help against the steel balls too. The cost of the storm callers could have went into something better. You unlocked and bought 2 and then nothing substantial happened with them.

      Yes. I think nothing short of melters, steel balls and/or acid/ignite can deal with that kind of stuff... Even ignite would have its issues with only 1.5% HP/s damage, effectively. I wonder, does acid increase ignite's damage?

    You've always lost to hackers. Maybe you should try playing them instead of fighting against them all the time. You are not gaining any insight being on this end of the table. Your chaff is the key, but you've put them in a largely vertical square block. The chaff needs to arrive at roughly the same time to overwhelm them. Against loads of hackers, you also need a way to quickly dispatch turned units so that high attack units in the back won't target them. AKA the commissar strategy. Marksman and phoenixes are completely useless if you don't take care of converted chaff quickly enough. To do this have crawlers at the front. If early a unit of marksman behind as the execution squad. If you have more resources, get mustangs as those will pop turned crawlers and fangs really quickly. Alternatively a vulcan with range can also double as this although the price is high if it gets converted. Another way to deal with hackers in the configuration you're facing is to try and waste their conversion meter. Get a rhino, up its speed, and give it a movement beacon. Have it walk up into the hackers, but retreat in time to not get hacked. This will buy the chaff some time to get closer. Hackers unlike regular units don't do permanent damage either. This might not be useful against a mixed build, but against a build like your opponents could have done very well. However once your opponent started to spawn melting points, things will get very tricky. But going mass chaff with carry arclights and marksman should help. Against you need to wipe out the turned units fast enough that your marksman and carry arclight are able to take shots at the hackers.

      Well, I am definitely thankful for this insight. I think I'm starting to get it a bit. There's 2 distinct types of hacker play to watch out for: Mass hacker and support hacker. I usually have my chaff trickle in so that there's always something small to shoot and the enemy is unable to just AoE all of it away at once, and while - I think - against normal boards and probably support hackers that works well, against mass hackers and especially once fire is out it might just be useless... So maybe next time I am facing mass hackers I need to simply put all sorts of chaff in the face of my opponent - but that costs a lot of lategame deployments. I have recently started to play with hackers at least a bit more, but have yet to be half-decently successful with it. I just can't pinpoint what I am doing wrong, in contrast to me facing hackers... I think all in all the reason is because hackers can't reliably be countered by one single unit, but rather one needs to have a board that hackers suck into (which leaves it open to other strategies). Mostly these seem to be fast and/or fragile high-DPS units, which all die to fire too quickly. But then again, maybe I should simply get into the policy of always having some hackers out if the board looks even halfway decent so at least they can't drop at lv6...
