Can You Travel SINGAPORE on a BUDGET?
Although Singapore is consistently ranked as one of the most expensive countries in the world, people also always told me how expensive traveling was and I've found out that that's not always true.
So, I decided to see if I could travel Singapore for 48 hours on a budget! I've tried to include as many prices and ideas for free activities as possible, so hopefully it's useful for you!

What is the name of the restaurant?
Welcome to Singapore. @1:38 that is not a hawker place. We call these places local coffeeshop or kopitiam. All tourists always take the prices at 7-eleven and comment on the high price which even locals would also say that they are highly priced LOL! Hence locals don't shop there unless there is no choice and it is a must buy. We just go to supermarkets or local convenience shops or malls around our neighbourhoods. You can get like bottled water for less than $1. And yes Singapore is very walkable and most of where we stay, we have sheltered walkways all the way from our flats to the MRT and bus stations or stops. Many people compare us to our neighbouring countries which isn't really fair. Singapore is the only developed country in this region. If you compare us to other big cities in developed country you can see the difference. Moreover good and cheap food options are found in hawker centres. Local Singaporean food would also cost cheaper than say western or cafe food.
I completely agree. @jordanchou Singapore is expensive by virtue of its size. Almost all the rankings use housing prices, private cars as 2 of their markers. While there's no doubt these 2 big purchases are the most expensive for us, it skews the ranking towards the top. The strength of the SGD also makes neighbouring countries seem a lot cheaper by comparison. A simple meal costing 50,000IDR or 12MYR is cheap compared to SGD or USD, but locals are paying in local currency. Their wages may not match up to the prices and hence it is expensive for them too. So is this fiscal policy or is something genuinely cheaper somewhere else? Cost-of-living affects everyone everywhere, so prices fluctuate accordingly too.
2:00 - I’d consider that a coffee shop usually 3-10 stalls. Hawker Centers are like food courts without air conditioning.
Thank you for visiting my country! 😍 Yes, never visit the 7/11 as it’s mostly overpriced compared to a normal convenience stores haha
I’ll keep that in mind for next time! 👍🏽🤣
@ 🫶🏽💖
1:15 For tourists, dont go to convenience stores. Go to grocery stores like giant,Fairprice and shengsiong which is much cheaper. Usually located in malls
Okay thanks!! That’s good to know!
@jordanchou actually the one that you to is actually a coffeeshop(slightly expensive as it is private) not a hawker centre. Hawker centre(by the government) usually is a big complex with at least 50-100 stalls and a standalone building. So that will be cheaper. Restaurants definitely slight expensive but depends on location and the level. But definitely wayyy cheaper than swiss overall
@ oh really? I went to a hawker stall too then, but I didn’t know there was a difference! Good to know! 👍🏽🥰
@@jordanchou yeap. The difference can be seen by the prices. So yeah.
As a Bulgarian I will tell you that Bulgaria does not support Ukraine.Bulgaria has only taken refugees from Ukraine.Politics have never shown eny support. On the streets you can see people fighting Ukrainians. And Russia till this day is a great business partner with Bulgaria. What I have said is the truth and I do not like peapole like this who put words in our mouths. Sad truth for this guy is that not everyone supports Ukraine.
711 is pretty costly. But if you go to mama stores ie provision shops, the drinks there are much cheap. I feel like if you walk more towards out of joo chiat road, Geylang Road have alot more food court or coffeeshops, there are cheap foods there too. May be it is just me, I do find that joo chiat road's food are not cheap but it have change alot to become more like a expat place because of the housing around there. But the food like Old Bibik's Peranakan, Nasi Lemak Hijau by MeatDrop on the Joo chiat road is good. One way you can try to check is this webpage called "BudgetMealGoWhere". It will recommend for budget meals for public/Singaporeans (But this kind of encourge people to visit some of this food place.) For public transportation: If you mix Bus and train at the same hour, there is a small discount.
for the second most expensive country I was expecting it to be a lol more expensive. Great oneee Jordan!!🤸♀🤯🤩
Thanks Raghad! 🥰 I mean I WAS trying to be cheap 🤷🏽♂️🤣
How about the card to get to the mrt or bus?
You can just use any debit or credit card!
Is Singapore more or less expensive than you were expecting?
I thought it was going to be way more expensive! Most things were comparable to the US!
@ yeah, except the public transportation 😉 and this was me trying to be cheap
2:53 hhahahhaaha Macedonians triggered :D
Sofia is in fact quite ugly with cars blocking sidewalks. And wheelchair access is virtually not existing for many public areas and buildings. The sad face of Sofia is its stray animals often being mistreated and neglected by locals and the government alike.
Sofia is a good city but we definitely have better one's
Which ones would you recommend??
Varna, Stara Zagora, Rila Monastery, Buzludzha and Shipka monuments.
Sorry, it is not SoFIA, but SOfia. But welcome you are, enjoy.

It was so nice to spend a week or two in Sofia, and I would have loved to stay longer, but it was also more expensive than I was expecting. It might be the cheapest country in the EU, but it's still a lot more expensive than Asia. lol
We love Asia don't we? =) I am glad you liked my birthplace.
Yes I did!! Haha it’s the best
Inflation goes crazy for the last 2-3 years in BG, as a person living in Bulgaria I could certainly say that we`re not the cheapest EU country anymore. Food and other stuffs are actually cheaper in Germany or France for example. Btw your name is commonly used in Bulgariа Jordan-Йордан

Yessss we figured it out the next day 😅😭
Here's something off topic that you may find interesting. :) The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird 'turkey'...... .....but the name of the bird does have a connection with the name of my country, let me explain. :) In the past 40 years 37 countries have changed their name, partially or fully. Obviously one can not change the name of an apple or an orange etc in other languages, but country names are like peoples' individual names, so if you're named John we don't call you Karen. :) Name of my country has always been Türkiye, it's been known as such since around the 1200's, many times presented as 'Turkiye' in various maps and memoirs by western travellers and cartographers. The name it self has a suffix, '-iye', that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means 'land of/belonging to', this is just like the Latin suffix of '-ia', which exists in such country names like Austr-ia, Austral-ia, Indones-ia etc. The Latin suffix -ia probably originates from Turkish -iye as Turkish been over 10,000 years is much older than Latin which is around 2300 years old with proto-Latin stretching back about 2700 years.. Many would remember the country Czechoslovak-ia which (changed names and) became Slovak-ia and Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia). The use of '-iye/-ia' is the same as the the use of '-land' suffix that comes after various country names like Ire(Eire)-land, Po(le)-land, Eng(Anglo)-land and so on and so on, so ''-ia/iye'' is the same '-land'' Spelled in different languages in different ways to phonetically RESEMBLE (to sound like) 'Türkiye', in time we got; Turq-uía (in Spanish), Turch-ia (in Italian), Turq-uie (in French) Turk-ei (in German) Turk-ey (in English) All trying to resemble/sound like the word ''Türk-iye''. Mind you this was way before the animal we currently know as turkey was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas. The bird was first sent to europe from north americas in the year 1519, so up until that point there was no bird named by white people as turkey.... ...during their exploration/invasion of north americas, they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye (as imperial europeans and Türkiye existed at the time formally known as Ottoman State, but collogially it was ''Türkiye'' as present in various historic documents/maps etc, meaning ''land of the Turks''), so they named the bird 'Turkey Fowl' to define 'Turkish Chicken'... ....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc. In time you don't get to call the harehound simply as Greek or you don't call the terrier Britirsh, or shepherd as simply German, but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just 'Turkey' and later 'turkey', and this went on for hundreds of years. Now in modern times, this caused confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their own country on an atlas. Basically we didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : ) So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : ) Best wishes. ;)
Thanks for coming to Bulgaria. I hope you enjoyed your experience!
Thank you!! I ended up staying two weeks and it was a beautiful country! 🙌🏽
This is the last part of our Istanbul to Sofia roadtrip, but the final video will be about the beautiful city of Sofia, Bulgaria, so stay tuned for next week!
Thats wrong. Yes they share a common ancestor but low German is kind of in between Dutch and German especially in western Germany and in the eastern Netherlands. But Dutch actually descended from low Franconian. German on the other is a descendant of Saxon dialects in East Germany. German from the west of Germany can understand pretty good tho due to regional dialects. For example the varieties spoken in the Cologne area are pretty close historically and linguistically to Dutch
Cant believe i randomly came across your channel! Im Bulgarian and ive been to Edirne so im excited to see how you like Sofia!

11:53 The place that you went is not a pub. It calls "Meyhane" in Turkish. Raki and Mezes(Turkish appetizers) are for Meyhane. Meyhane is traditional pub for who is 35-60 years old. Finally, Turkey is a secular country. Not like Morocco.
That’s very interesting, thank you for explaining that! Yes, Turkey is technically a secular country and I see that a lot especially in the northwest, but the vast majority of the country is still Muslim and the government has some Islamist tendencies.
