Viva La Musica Flex Violin Shoulder Rest, Unboxing and Fitting
Whilst obviously skilled with your hands, your mouth could use a bit of education; there is no such word as "heighDth" (I emphasized the D, which shouldn't be there, on purpose). The word you need help with is "height." No D or final th are required.
I recently started playing my viola after some 10 years of absence. It has a brand new bow, strings, sound post and bridge. I've rejoined my local orchestra, which is pure joy, except for one problem; When I try to play either the lowest (C) string or the next lowest (G) on its own, my bow causes the adjacent string to sound. I believe that the bridge needs a little more curvature where it supports the G and C strings. Is this a common issue? Can I do this kind of work myself? I have been a fully accredited and highly skilled piano tuner-technician for the past 50 years.
Question : In making the bridge what is your goal for the sound of the violin? When you get one in place do you then realize you took off to much or you should keep reshaping it? What is the optimal shape of a bridge? If it sound to Toney what needs to be done? Thanks

I had no idea. This is a work of art! The bridge sets a lot of instruments apart. After I had mine fitted , it felt like the violin was made for me.
Is there any advantage in removing the fine tuner screws on the G, D and A strings, for an integrated tail piece?
It's very wonderful and right on time. The bridge on this violin is too flat and makes single string play difficult. Thank you.
is terrifying watching you do all that without a neck rest.. thank you though, i learned a lot.
Thank you so much. This is exactly the information I needed and you have explained it so clearly!
Vai bag ta koy pabo??
thankyou so much for this looks just what i need
Could one put some light oil on the fingerboard?
you mentioned that the whole thing is done by knife. why is this? I see there is a tool with a wheel for clamping the bridge and sanding the feet down in situ. is this a reasonable way to do it as well?
Terrible product. My son has had three, and all fall off despite hours adjusting, reading the Manuel and watching the instruction videos, taking them to master luthiers in Chicago, and to master veteran violin teachers. My son has been embarrassed and demoralized as this rest has fallen off during concerts for which he was the concert master, during a concerto competition, and during lessons and practice.
Phew, found the mute button. Why not have string music with a string advertisement? Maybe describe the item instead? The sax was very annoying.
Wow excelente trabajo dignos de un verdadero artesano, todo el trabajo de rebaje de los pis, corazón y orejas tienen algún efecto final en el sonido?
nice video. may i ask what's the title of the music in your background?
❤
Clear as mud.
Thank you for sharing. I can’t afford a luthier but my extremely cheap used instrument has an awful bridge. I have woodworking tools and can’t really make it worse so I’m having a go at improving it. I’ve watched loads of luthiers and have a good idea what I should do. Thanks again.
❤
Yes but when you put the straps ON... How does it stand on the table... Probably as wobbly as Air
Do the geared pegs have any effect on the sound of the instrument? Logically, I seems that they would not, but traditional fine tuners do change the sound, in my experience, so I thought I'd get an opinion.
Too lengthy video not necessary 😢
Very clear!
Does it have space for a bonmusica shoulder rest?
Thanks for the demonstration but 'plastic hinges riveted on' is not what I call good and strong, particularly given the relative high pricing. A popped rivet in drop test in another video highlighted this point.
Great video! My peg holes measure 7.53mm to 7.61mm. Should I go with the smaller or larger pegs?
Hey there! I noticed you referred to this as a 'violin bridge', but from what I can see, it appears to have a flatter profile, which is more characteristic of a fiddler's bridge. The classical violin bridges I've come across usually have a more pronounced curve. I recently had a luthier make a bridge for my violin with this flatter curve, similar to what you're showing. Just wanted to clarify and see if you have any insights or information about this. Thanks!
Maybe I need something like that - my violin is pretty old, and the pegs are slipping as the holes for the pegs are becoming worn from years of use. I had new pegs fitted in 1963, and now that they are slipping again, maybe the old method of plugging and re-reaming the peg holes could be supplanted by this? after all, they look indistinguishable from ordinary ebony pegs. Peg paste is no longer working on the older violin, so I have switched to the newer violin. Will the Wittner pegs fit when a violin's peg holes have become larger?
Thanks: pleSe keep posted: learning slowly: bye
Amazing work!
thank you so much
Thank you for this video explaining the differences in the e strings.
The violin doesn’t have a chin rest. Overpriced shoulder rest. Waste of time
Once you try these geared pegs, you'll never want to use the old style pegs again. I fit them to all my fiddles as soon as I purchase them. They are quite easy to install if you have a peg reamer and a little time.
Oh Boy ! I thought I was properly rosining my bow BUT.. was I wrong. I was only putting on 1/3 of what you did and not using short little aggressive strokes and no one told me I would feel it getting stickier or the bow hairs would get white. Took me 3 times longer than usual and OMG my violin is so loud and sounds better and easier to play. I feel stupid but who cares my violin sounds amazing. Thanks so much I am so happy and amazed P.S. I watched a video a couple of years ago and thought OK and never watched another one. Glad I found you
Fascinating I had no idea the amount of artistic design went into the bridge I have to go look at mine now. Thanks so much for sharing your talent and expertise. Subbed and hit the alarm. Cheers from Alberta Canada
What? No violin background music? Just piano?
😅Now I know how to use fox primo shoulder.
Thank you for your knowledge I am putting a bridge on mine I had some bridges that came with the fiddle...the arch or curviture is so important...I like the tools...I need to put sound post in...
What brand of knives are you using, what knife company made your knives?
Love videoz
Very good, straightforward and visually clear instructions. Thank you!
Do you really want to increase the head weight of the instrument by doubling the weight of each peg? Not for me, especially on violas. They're great for cello where the extra weight is near unnoticeable. Not for violin or viola, though, until the manufacturers can match the weight of a wooden peg. Learn to tune on the pegs - it's easy when you know how - and fit a lightweight tuning tailpiece, ironically made by the same manufacturer as the geared pegs.
Why would it matter? I support my violin with a shoulder rest and my chin. I feel no more neck, chin or shoulder strain with these tuners mounted on my instruments then without.
What is your opinion of VIOL polish ?
"Fitting" I guess you mean fitting to the violin. More helpful would a video showing how to fit the rest to a human.
Whether a $200 violin or a $20,000 violin, they will all sound better with a properly fitted bridge, good quality strings, and post alignment. There are so many violins being produced in China I don't know how one avoids them. I have two, a Gliga from Romania, and a practice violin from Cecilio, (Chinese). The Gliga was ready to play out of the case. The Cecilio will require attention. But that is why I purchased it. It's the violin on which I learn. I've acquired D'Addario Ascente synthetic core strings, the bridge is a full 1mm too thick, and the feet look as though they just slapped the blank on the violin. Once the bridge is refined, and the strings are replaced, I'm hopeful it will matriculate from being a VSO, to something better. That you Maestro for your excellent display. I'm sure this violin will serve its player very well. It has benefited from your attention.
The $50 violins from China arrive the same way a $20,000 violin arrives from France, unfinished. Why do people expect high cost items to require setting up but low cost items to be ready right out of the box. Totally crazy.
