Add a Rotary Axis to a Laser that uses the RDC6442 Controller
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.Год назад
The Riuda 6442 laser controller has a fourth axis but the firmware does not support using this axis to drive a rotary. This video describes how to have a dedicated rotary axis on a laser with the 6442 controller. A front panel mounted toggle switch selects whether the motion is intended to be the Y axis or the rotary axis. The parts were purchased from Amazon at a total cost of about $40. The p...

PNEUMATIC POWER DRAW BAR ON SHOPMASTER MILL TURN
Просмотров 3233 года назад
I did a previous video on a power draw bar using a butterfly impact wrench. Over time, I didn't care for the results. The torque was somewhat unpredictable depending on air pressure and how lubricated the threads were. So, I went back to the drawing board and used a multistage cylinder and belleville washers. I really like the way this is working.
SHOPMASTER MILL TAPPING

This is a video of the Shopmaster Mill Turn doing a mill tapping operation in 6061 Aluminum. The machine has upgraded controls to Centroid CNC12/Acorn and spindle encoders.

I built a power draw bar for my Shopmaster Mill Turn based on plans I purchased several years from www.homeshopaccessaries.com. It uses an inexpensive butterfly impact wrench and small cylinder. I "sort of" works as you can see from the video. I didn't use the machine for a long time so didn't worry about it. Now that I have plans to use it, I need to give it some attention. Hopefully this may ...

First rigid tapping experiment on Centroid upgraded Shopmaster Mill Turn. May need to tweak decel and accel times, but it worked quite well.

Shopmaster Mill Turn conversion and first lathe part run
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 года назад
This is a Shopmaster Mill Turn that I converted to Centroid Acorn controls running CNC12 software. The software and thus the machine can be run as a milling machine or as a lathe. I upgraded the drives to larger hybrid servos, added encoders to both spindles for threading, added home and limit switches, and had the table ground flat. I had also previously built a power draw bar for it. This is ...
Mill Turn Conversion - Axis Move Demo

This video shows Z, X, and Y axis moves a Mill Turn machine after Centroid Acorn control conversion. Speed varies from 5ipm to 200 ipm.
Terry, this is great. Thanks
that's what I'mtrying to get away from
Thank you sir. Nice tip!
Nice video thanks for sharing
We had an Oliver Trailer, with the Andersen Hitch and understand the problems you are trying to improve! Good idea. If you search the Oliver Forum you may find another Modification to the Whale Tail's Pin that involves an "Easy Grip Hitch Pin" available atTractor Supply and Harbor Freight. BTW, we currently have a Casita Trailer with the Andersen Hitch and plan on using your idea, thanks!
Excellent modification Terry. Thanks for tip.
Do you have dual z motor? I cannot feed my z nearly that fast
It’s not very beefy. If you take your time with light passes it does pretty good. If you want speed, I’d get something more ridged
Can this mill good parts out of steel with pretty decent accuracy
Hello I seen one of these on Facebook marketplace it's a shopmaster mill turn lathe combo CNC. Can this mill metals with accuracy
It’s pretty light duty. Not very ridged. I did a lot to mine to help that and put more powerful steppers and new controls. If I take my time, I can do pretty good. It’s more of a hobby project than a machine I would try to make money with
Hi Terry, Could you give the parts numbers for the drawbar and also share the stl file for your probe holder?
Thanks for the share, well thought out, BUT it seems to me that you are working hard to complicate something already real simple. 2 points... pulling the whale tail through those angles may void any warranty (my read on the Andersen would diminished the effectiveness) 2nd if it's raining, it might just be beer-o-clock, crack open another frosty and relax. Anyway it's well thought out. cheers
Good morning. I’m not understanding how basically making the chain adjustable with the flick of a lever complicates things. Would appreciate a quick video of how you do it simpler. Especially if you can’t back in with exact alignment. The whale tale is meant to rotate. That’s what it does with resistance so that sway is reduced. How does rotating it void the warranty? The documentation indicates not to beat on it with a hammer. Oh, and I do the beer drinking when I arrive. Not as I’m headed out on the road. That reduces sway as well.😃
Great idea! Thanks for sharing.
Nice Job Terry!
Hello Terry. My name is Brighton and I came across my first lathe mill combo. I'm excited but very intimidated to get started. Mine seems to be an older model, but I was wondering if you could point me towards any info on how to get mine in good working order? Mine does not have the double column brace at the back, and that is something I know I want to upgrade for rigidity on the mill. It actually already has a cnc variable system on it that the shop I bought it from didn't ever install fully. I got it for pennies on the dollar and would love to chat and learn something. Thanks!
Good thing you got it for pennies on the dollar. I have a Shoptask Bridgemill Eldorado. Doing a cnc conversion on in Texas
Good idea .
I think you actually just made it more complicated.
It makes it much quicker for me and I don’t have to worry about whale tail alignment. I haven’t had any negative feedback from anyone who has actually tried it. It just shows that one solution doesn’t work for everyone. Do you actually use this hitch?
Terry, I’m considering this mod to my hitch. Are you still happy with it?
Installed , I came up with a one link difference from your measurements which I put to work with a securing chain for the throw arms. I will send you a picture as soon as I test it on the road. So much easier to get that flounder plate hooked up…….
Great. I had a chance to road test last week. It worked great and was much quicker and easier to hook up
Great idea will save me many frustrating minutes, do you have a parts list to share, size of shackles you used and type of disk you used on the angle grinder. Thanks much,
This is the chain binder www.harborfreight.com/5400-lb-capacity-heavy-duty-non-ratcheting-load-binder-36022.html I purchased the couplings at Tractor Supply. I think they are 3/8”. They are exactly the same as the one for the whale tale. The 4” cutoff wheel came from Tractor Supply as well. It’s about 1/16” thick and slices right through the chain. Hope this helps
Thanks Terry , we are hull 311 Oliver in Cape May Nj , I will let you know how I make out.. Thank again
When I had the Andersen set up, I never had an issue with reattaching the chains or whale tale. So I am not sure what you have accomplished here, and this looks a little dangerous removing links. Just back up straight up and raise the hitch as instructions say you don’t need to reconfigure the Andersen. This also voids any warranty with the Andersen hitch since you cut the links. You might wanna check with the DOT folks on all safety aspects of this modification. Should something happen and your mod fails DOT and insurance investigators will have questions. I think your idea has merit, but safety is truly a concern. Never shed a tear the day we sold the Andersen and now use a one ton TV.
Thanks for taking the time to produce this video. Excellent!!! Hull #706 LE2, Missouri.
Thanks Terry. That was great. I take great care to make sure I back up perfectly straight so I don’t have any problems hooking up. This mod makes that not quite as necessary. #381
I like you tried.. I will follow you 'cause I want to build a cnc turning and milling machine like this
Just messaged you on cnczone
I like this. I have the same Shopmaster Mill Turn with an Acorn conversion. Can you provide me with the part numbers for the pneumatic cylinder and the belleville washers? Looks easy enough to build.
Sorry, it’s been too long. I think it’s called a ganged cylinder or maybe a 3 stage cylinder. I believe I purchased it on eBay.
Very clean control work. You can hear the CSS (Constant Surface Speed) working thanks to the line driver differential encoder you installed. Post a video when you try threading or tapping. Thanks for sharing your work Terry!
