Sewing the gusset of the lining to the inside of the Johnny bag. Juki 1541s

Let’s connect the Johnny bag. It’s a nice touch. Nobody wants to pull out their keys or whatever from their bag and pull out the lining at the same time.

Adding lining to my Johnny bag. The outer shell is waxed canvas with lizard patchwork. Zero give. The lining is a fussed cotton. A little give in the fabric. Always make the lining smaller. Sewing this with Juki 1541s organ dia 20 and Tex 100

And we are done with the Johnny waxed canvas bag! The seahorse on the pocket is lizard. The waxed canvas is custom dyed and waxed by myself and the interior lining is 100% cotton fused with a med weight interfacing for a medium structure. Mostly done with the Juki 1541s and Juki 8100e. Organ dia 20/Tex100.

I would start in the middle of the seam rather than in the corner.

@@cynthiabarraza2655 that works too!! As long as the seam matches as you come around. ❤️ if it’s really thick, say multiple layers of leather, then I’ll start right before a corner. Just because I go on visual.

Is your 8100e the heavy version for bag making? I think it’s called EHX. Thanks

@dlrigter1035 hi! They are both single needle lock stitch machines. For my bags I use a walking foot. The Juki 1541s is my go to machine. I added my cobra class 26 (cylinder machine) to the mix or family. Haha. If you’re serious about making bags, look at the Juki 1541s. I purchased mine at Sunny Sewing Machines in Texas. Give them a call. They are pleasant to work with and will not sell you any extra stuff that you don’t need like bobbin cases. ❤️

Interesting to hear you dont like to backstitch. I was thinking of hand finishing instead of using the machine to back stitch as ive been getting an ugly couple of stitches.

@@TacumaGamba i will back stitch where it can’t be seen. The machines do a nice back stitch but if I see it in my bag, I scrap the project. Tell me more about “ugly” couple of stitches. On what type of material? Thread and needle size. I’ll go back to my cobra class 26 this afternoon and see what my back stitching looks like.

@bitbougie I've only done a couple of wallets and I made additional holes even with the guide but it's visible so I started back stitching by hand.
