I guess on paper it should not be a literal financial benefit to be married. I am not an accountant and cannot speak to the presence of absence of loopholes. Certainly being "married filing jointly" helps to simplify the tax process. For me as clergy, I get a parsonage housing exemption, and since I am married my wife is also able to benefit. I expect there are more situations like that but I am not an expert.

@@RyanJGaffney Unless you are a 1 income household I see no tax benefits. I do not believe we should enter into a contract with our current state, which is what a marriage license is. We are giving them legal authority over our marriage and family. Our government does not uphold what marriage is biblically in any sense. Why are we registering with them. Marriage is a covenant between a man, women and God, witnessed by the community and families. As a Christian, I believe in politely declining to participate in their system.

hmm, not sure what you mean. Does God need to 'divinely' tell you to accept a particular job offer or do you just go for it? I am not denying God's divinity, I truly believe in it. But I believe it's so divine it works through us by the leading of the holy spirit.. if we are believers. There are of course multiple possible readings, but my reading of John 4:18 is "You have had five sexual partners and you are working on six" the man she is currently spending time with, fetching water for, and flirting with, is not her sexual partner, and indeed is probably married to someone else! You are correct about "pornia" it means "sexual immorality" which is not especially helpful in explaining what activities related to sex are permissible and not. (the greek language is not a magic decoder ring) all it really affirms is that sex is not morally neutral. There ARE sexual activities, such as those you mentioned, which are immoral. Sex is not anything goes. For everything else we need context, not just vocab

I think what I said in the video was "I'm not ready to speak and say that this is God's standard, but that was a standard that was used and that was well understood through much of the ancient near east" One of the tightropes that every spiritual leader needs to walk, is to find the right balance between being clear, and being willing to speak boldly on subjects which the Bible speaks, and to simplify things so that even the smallest and most vulnerable sheep can understand, versus not falling into the temptation to say more than the Bible actually says about a subject just because it would make me look good to make me feel smart. "Fornication" is an English word, that doesn't correspond well to any word in Greek. It is used by the KJV as a translation for the word "Pornia" but "Pornia" is actually a great deal more broad than just premarital sex. It encompasses everything immoral you might do sexually, including rape, incest, prostitution, and pagan ceremonies that incorporate sex as a means of worship to rival Gods! So while, yes, I agree, you should get married before you have sex. To do otherwise would fall short of the glory of God (sin). I believe that what you have clarified here is more of a "doctrine" or a "theology" rather than a direct Biblical concept. And I find it useful to differentiate those things. There is what the Bible seems to say, and then there is the system of ideas I construct to put all the many things the Bible seems to say together into a structure that makes sense. Both are good. And I appreciate you engaging with the video.

Seems to me that the polygamous marriage of Jacob to Rachel and Leah is not something the Bible depicts as a positive example to follow. As to the bloodline of Christ. Remember that Rahab was also in that bloodline. So was Bathsheba.

God orchestrated Jacob and his 4 wives hence the 12 tribes Jacob was blessed. God gave David his wives and as the scripture states if it was not enough he would have given him more. Joash did what was right in the eyes of God and was given two wives. Abraham Gideon Moses all men of God had multiple women. Don’t say poliginy does not work when monogamy has a 50 percent divorce rate. And most of those that are still married are miserable

@@Jericho-xs3ju monogamy doesn't work specifically in the western countries. Monogamy can work if you use the scriptures as they were meant to and not just pick what you "feel" like. And Jesus, made it clear that monogamy is the main goal, when he said they BOTH be joined in one flesh. There is a really good book called "marriage, a history" by Stephanie coontz. This gives the play by play as to why marriages are such a disaster in the West, from a historical view point. To sum it up the worst thing the West has ever done for marriage, is to encourage love as the ignition for marriage and not duty.

If done according to the scriptures marriage does work. Whether one bride or more. But one flesh if you think about it may be just a command to have sexual intimacy. No one walks around melded together. That adds to the strictly emotional aspect that I would agree is one of the main downfalls of marriage where marriage is only about emotional feelings and not about Gods purpose. We can thank fem in i s m and the the the worship of women going back to grecco Roman culture. Now with no fault divorce and all the laws favoring women I would and do tell people that are not married to not get a marriage certificate with the state. Keep it between God and your woman. Until the laws change which I don’t know why churches still push marriage in the state so much. Generally speaking It’s wise for men not to get married in the state and women are incentivized to divorce. In most cases.

@@Jericho-xs3ju when it comes to marriage, it's about 1 wife. Both new and old testaments agree on that. Similarly how Jesus's take on divorce was that outside of fornication it should not exist, but BC of people's hardness of hearts it exists. As such, we're only supposed to have one wife, concubines and more than one wife are something God didn't intended for us, but people's flesh is weak.

Such a gross (and ugly) departure from the Scripture is what happens when you let a theological system rather than the Word of God guide your thinking. The Lutherans handle this issue in a much more compelling and unoriginal (a good thing) manner.

I got married without a license last year because I want my marriage to be with God and not the world. I don't regret that decision ever because I have God's peace about it. Me and my husband's marriage license is the Certificate of Holy Matrimony that is attached to my King James Bible signed and dated by the pastor that married us and by my 2 witnesses. This Certificate will stand in any state. This world is so corrupted that I don't want to be married to the government. I want to be married to God and my husband.

The definition in Matthew and Genesis is genius IMO and so many ppl continue to inject their cultural traditions into it and package as God’s definition. The reason I say God’s definition is Genius, is because it allows for all circumstances of two people coming together to be married. Imagine a man flees and corrupt government and lands on an island with an women doing the same thing. Yes, extremely unlikely in this day of age but possible. With no license, ceremony, witness, etc etc that I keep hearing about, how are those two supposed to be married in Gods eyes? Yes, he attended a wedding, but that was about turning water into wine and there was no description of the wedding. And if you want to defer to marriage at that time to get context, it was more of an arrangement between two men as women seemed to be treated poorly 2000 years ago and married at an average age of 12. They also brought a dowry into the marriage. Attending an event isn’t a message of requirement. I’ve looked at several videos lately and they all seem to have their own flavor of marriage. The scripture seems to me to be pretty clear…an agreement ( aka-covenant) between two people. Reading anymore into it just seems to bring in unnecessary baggage.

@@christieprescott5450 One other point to consider Christie --- if you want to be specific about the word fornication i.e., Porneai -- please consider that Jesus Himself used this word in describing the ONLY provision for divorce - Matthew 19:9. Jesus is speaking as if the marriage has already occured. He uses this word as the only way a man can divorce his wife. Weird, huh? If "fornication" in your understanding is sex outside of marriage, why would Jesus use this word for couples who are already married? I think you will find that "Fornication" or "porneai" is a general word to describe Sexual Immorality in a variety of way. It is where we get the modern word -- Pornography. Jesus, in Matthew 19:9, was RE-ESTABLISHING the Law found in Deuteronomy 22:14. Altough we are now dead to the Law of Moses, there is still Law --- Christ's Law. We are to be obedient to the laws/commands of Jesus Christ. The old way is dead -- the new way is alive. Life through the obedience to Jesus Christ our Lord.

@@moviepasstor2899 I’m from a part of Canada that has a very heavy presence of the Mennonite brethren church, I suppose it’s the agricultural settlers legacy in my town from long ago lol. So most of the churches around me and the programs like camps were always affiliated with it. I’ve never heard a sermon in my life on pacifism but I’ve been brought up to have strong opinions on stuff like the age of baptism and other ideas you’d associate with an anabaptist background.
