I'm both a gigantic nerd and an avid motorcyclist.
I love comics, movies, books, science, and video games; but motorcycles are my passion.
I want to explore all of the things I love on this channel, and combine it with my casually suicidal blend of self-deprecating humor. I'm pretty smart, kinda funny, and I like to pretend that I'm talented.

Ducati 748 - CA Hwy 9 - Front Side (I'm getting faster)
I haven't ridden my 748 in AGES, so I took it out to the Front Side (because they're still doing road work on my side of the mountain) and proceeded to have a good time.
I ride with this guy on a GSXR 600, and he's much more familiar with this side of the mountain than I am, so chasing him around has taught me a lot... and with a little more practice; he'll be chasing me around.

KTM RC390 - CA Hwy 9 - Freshly Paved

They repaved the lumpy, chunky, ripped-up, tar-snaked parts of 9, so I took my slowest bike out on the fresh greasy pavement to mely the shitty tires off the rims (yeah, Diablo Rosso II's are garbage). Also hit a cone with my mirror (Granite Construction left a few out, but had collected them before my second lap)

I bought a new KTM RC390 because I deeply regretted selling my old one, and I got it all set up and ripping just in time for CalTrans to start doing construction on my favorite road. I decided that it was time to familiarize myself with thy Hwy 9 on the other side of my mountain. I'm not very fast here yet, but after a little bit of practice and learning where I need to be, when I need to be th...
2017 Ducati 959 Panigale - CA Hwy 9

Some speedy cruising on my rebuilt Ducati 959 Panigale. This is a pretty great motorcycle. I prefer older analog bikes, but the 959 feels pretty good; despite all of the electronic babysitters. I bought this bike off a guy who low-sided into some bushes. Can't get a lot of lean out of the tires because the previous owner never tipped it over very far. When I start getting to my normal lean angl...
1980's Cult Classic - Yamaha FZR400 - CA Hwy 9

I wanted something weird, so I bought an FZR400. This bike is absolutely fantastic, and is easily one of the best handling bikes I've ever ridden. Extremely predictable, nimble, short wheel base, buttery acceleration, and a 14k redline. There is no "get to know ya" time with this bike. Get on it. Go. If you're an intermediate rider; you'll feel like a goddamn hero. If you're more advanced; you ...

If you can't handle 107 seconds of Vivaldi's Spring; skip to 2:14 snowflake. GREETINGS UNICORN CHASERS! Here we have my extremely rare 2000 Cagiva Mito 125 two stroke sport bike. Like an Aprilia RS125 except it's faster and prettier. Depending on who you ask; there were only 22-30 of these bikes ever imported into the US, and I think there's only 11 still on the road. Let me start by saying tha...
KTM RC390 vs. Aprilia RS250 - CA Hwy 9

After a gnarly accident left me with a broken pelvis and a destroyed Ducati; I put a lot of effort into getting back on a bike, and shredding like I used to. This was filmed on the one year anniversary of my accident (08/10/2017) The guy on the RS250 is a regular on my mountain, and he's always faster than me, no matter what I'm riding

Breaking an old Ducati for parts. Sometimes you need a few parts and a set of wheels, and you find a parts bike for less. Take what I need, and sell the rest. Music: Winter - Vivaldi
That's a seriously sweet road!
these sound so freaking awesome! i've just recently taken on restoring my dad's old '88 that he used as a full race bike back in the early 90s. just riding it around on the lawn is so incredibly fun lol, i cannot wait to get it out on the road
I have a 1989 Honda CB-1 and while it isn't quite as focused as the FZR it's a blast as well! The stock suspension isn't very good but the Nitron R2 monoshock and Racetech emulators/springs I ordered should solve that :) These two were THE 400s to have in '89-'90. Hard to beat gear driven cams with a Kerker pipe!
I had a CB-1 for a minute. Great bike if not a little stiff. You should see the FZR today. Fox twin clicker, custom built forks, 17" PM Chicanes, spicy cam, custom V&H exhaust. Unfortunately, the valve guide on cylinder 1 is leaking on the exhaust side, so I gotta take it in and have the heads done.
Tasty video. I want one.
@@deformemvita I've ridden my CB-1 about 1000 miles now with the Nitron and Racetech goodies, and wow it's an entirely different machine! Feels fantastic now, bumps don't upset it at all. Stiff but compliant. They are very soft stock, I weigh 150lb and medium braking had the forks diving before. Excited to see how it is up Palomar Mountain when it warms up (Socal local). Friend and I are thinking about a riding trip up to Santa Cruz. Looks loads of fun up there. Your FZR sounds wild!
Total time how long did it take?
About 2 hours.
currently hunting one in Mexico... SP 525 2008 what do you think? too many issues or could be a nice project?
I just bought one today. Major score!!!
These bikes are freakin' Legends. I still have this one, and it has received MANY upgrades.
I remember when this came out I think Cycle World was talking about the handling and said "Until Yahama builds a YZR500 with lights and a horn, this is it." In the vid the thing I noticed is the bars never shake. Looks like it handles like a laser. Must be fun to ride.
It is by far the best handling motorcycle I've ever ridden. It's not particularly fast, but it shreds with the best of 'em. I've actually done a ton of work customizing this bike, and it's even lighter and faster now.
@@deformemvita Nice. You've got a gem there. I'm restomodding a CBR600F4i and it's way better than anything I've owned, and I've racked up about 150k miles on the street on fun but much less focused bikes. It's great to have a bike you love.
@@ThePsvan I had an F2 a few years ago... Hondas are absolute tanks. Completely indestructible motorcycles.
@@deformemvita Ah, the F2 was on my shopping list. Yeah there's a guy on RUclips with over 300k miles on his original F4i engine. Insane for something that'll rev to 14k.
Aw man I remember your little KTM. That thing was so cool.
Who tf thumbs downed this video? 😮 this is awesome
You should derestrict it, go full spec rather than EU learner spec, super easy to do all you need is the larger jet for the carb, different sprockets for the final drive and remove the restricter from the exhaust. It's vastly different when its choking restriction is removed
Already done... but I blew up the engine. Got a Polini 165cc kit with expansion chamber, and a bigger carb ready to install.
@@deformemvita the polini 165cc kit is really bad unless you port it. Gives you more power at lower revs but you lose a lot higher up. Also you shouldnt engine brake too much with it unless you want to change the piston and rings more frequently, a 2 stroke doesnt get too much oil in when at high revs but no throttle.
Does people ask you where is that old ducati what was standing there?
I have a Cagiva Supercity 125 a Supermoto with the mito motor. I live in Germany even here it is a rare Bike. Do you know the supercity in the USA ?
Really nice bike, cool road! trying to catch one at my country. Why looks like your tires had a lot of rocks? you did a lot of zigzags trying to clean them?
They're brand new tires. Gotta scrub them in, otherwise they won't have grip in the corners.
Awesome video, just got an 88 fzr400 and I'm already completely in love with it. Awesome little bike.
This is a 1990 400 and has been pretty heavily modified since this video (thing looks freakin' RAD now) but yeah, great bikes. They're so nimble and predictable. I've ridden plenty of bikes that talk to you and tell you what they're doing, but the FZR doesn't just let you know what's up; is submits a peer-reviewed thesis for your perusal ahead of time. Brilliant good fun... it's my nerd bike.
Hey I have a quick question for you. I'm going to need new tires on mine soon, just wondering what tires you're running and if you have any suggestions on what tires I should get. Thank you.
I bought one new in 1990, rode it for many years until I finally totaled it. Twas a sad day, like loosing my best friend. Yesterday some 30± years later, just picked up a 1989, guy I got it from found it parked for 25 years in the back of some garage behind someone's house. He tore it down and restored it. It looks amazing. I got a smoking deal on it. So I'm a stoked old dude, first time I've ever bought myself a birthday present. Aloha!
@@jacobdad2742 hey, did you ever find any good tires? i've run into this same problem trying to restore my dad's '88 with the weird 17" front and 18" rear
@@gilernt I looked everywhere and the only tires I could find were from shinkko on Amazon. I definitely wouldn't do a track day on them but for regular commuting they've been great. I think I paid about $180 for the set, delivered to my door.
Hey bud...... its Calspeed with the yellow built-up FZR400 in San Francisco. Great vid. Hope that we meet up for a ride sometime....not that I got my bike running and looking decent.
When you know the beer store is just about to close....... you take your 400
Might of met you up at the wall Oakland/Berkeley couple year or so ago, I ride yellow 748 bioposto, full 45mm Arrow's, working on my second bike 748 mono....
WHO COULD POSSIBLY GIVE THIS STUPENDOUS VID A THUMBS DOWN??!!
Hello dude, i don't know if you have the bike right know but i think its not carbured correctly at least on high revs. It seems to make a boooooooo when you are full throttle. I think the mix is very rich and you should downsize the jets. Greetings from spain and just have fun, you have a monster on your hands. I gonna buy one when the quearantine ends. See you dude.
pretty sure he's still got the factory restrictors on it, they had them so they could be sold as learner bikes in the EU.
Yeah smth is wrong with fuelling 👍
What happens when your bike gets stolen....
Love the intake noise!
Were Mitos sold in America or did you import it?
Mitos were sold in America, but only 20 were officially imported. Mine is an American model.
Any chance this bike is for sale?
Sorry man, this bike was WAY too hard to find. If I ever move out of CA, I might let it go, but only to another CA resident.
Teh_D3th_St4r gotcha. Maybe I’ll see you out on Hwy 9 sometime. 👍
@@benkifle4291 Probably. I'm out there shredding 3-4 times a week.
are you upshifting here without using the clutch?
When? I try not to speedshift this bike because it's old, so if I did; it wasn't intentional.
@@deformemvita maybe just cant see your clutch hand moving properly then i dunno lol
Are you parting it out?
I guess given the video's age: did you (past tense) part it out?
👍😎
Wow! Your freaking railing. I had to look up an FZR400 gauge display to see your speeds...70ish plus and minus! That is in the A game speed range.
Hi um, I know this is odd but I want to talk to you about something, is there some way I can contact you online so we could have a conversation?
My favourite bike ever, in Italy is a cult bike, one of the best 125s out there.
They're extremely rare in America, and I'm very lucky to have one. This is a bike I will probably keep forever.
I am in the process of restoring another if you want one
@@classiccarfinder I've got one from '05 😉
@@deformemvita there not very rare in Europe and are extremely cheap because of the reliability but are lovely looking bikes
some good stuff here
When you brake, do you pull in clutch and close throttle, downshift, blip, release and repeat depending on distance?
It depends on speed, not distance. I stay off the clutch until I'm ready to downshift. Off throttle, brake, clutch/blip/downshift, tip in, roll on throttle. I screwed that up with my double-down at 6:52 when I came up neutral and had to clutch down again and didn't have the presence of mind do blip a second time and just let the clutch grind under braking.
The tank on that thing looks pregnant
Yeah, and?
When is the due date?
Kick rocks, homeslice.
Is it back on the road?
how is yer GBA PokeDex mod coming?
largely abandoned...
