I was asking myself the same question when I suspected I might have autism too. It never seemed meaningful to get a diagnosis to me because it won't change who I am, and it won't change anything going forward. Or so I thought. I talked to the friend who made me aware I may be autistic about it, and she managed to persuade me. If you get a diagnosis, you can get help fitting better in with our very allistic society. Even if you think you fit into society pretty well as is, a diagnosis may help shed light on issues that you weren't even aware were there before, so it's still worth it. That, of course, depends on whether you're able to find and get the right help, which isn't necessarily a given.

Be prepared to fight to get diagnosed… my pcp refused to give me a referral because “I was capable of having a conversation with her” and my psychologist said I wasn’t because “I’m not a boy interested in trains and I can talk” eventually kept going to the center that takes adults and my insurance on the daily like a crazy person until they did a prior authorization with my insurance to allow me to get evaluated

I got one at 31 because I needed accommodations for work and school and to validate myself that I’m not crazy as multiple specialists told me I couldn’t be because I don’t sound like a robot or I can drive. Prepare to advocate for yourself. I was also good at masking which is why 3 psychologists said I was not autistic. I went through embrace autism for my diagnosis.
