I became a teenager in 1981. MTV showed up at the same time. For me, my childhood was the 70’s and the 80’s my teen years. For me both decades were great. 90’s were great too. Every decade has great and crappy stuff in it.

The memories/feelings. Feelings are life. Someone sent MP3’s of some old demoes of a late 80’s band I cofounded. So raw.Still the magic was there on cassette. I still have two and all my dongles. I don’t know what to do with them. Local goth industrial band Skinny Puppy used it for their best music. Stopped using my 1040Ste in 2008. Most of my friends don’t want to hear about the nostalgia of being a punk. Funny I’ve been through many incarnations. Still trying to be present. Be well 🧗🎸🎹

Years ago, mid-late 90s I worked for an ISP company, they did "experiments' in their spare time... One conclusion was Acoustic couplings linked with cans and strings were not viable methods of transmitting data, those disposable plastic cups and nylon fishing line gave a much more reliable connection.😜

I remember Mark Goodman would be hugh as heck while on Mtv. You could tell.

I was 12-13 in 1983. I still like all these songs. 1983 was a great year for music!

It's probably hard for 20-somethings and below to see this in context. In 1983, MTV coincided with the widespread availability of cable TV. For pop, rock and rap, it was *the* single source which everyone below the age of 25 watched for new artists and bands. Thus it was huge factor in how music was consumed and how millions of people's opinions were formed. Totally unlike today, where there's a zillion streaming channels and audiences are very fragmented.

Thank the heavens someone preserved this

We didn't even realize what we had at the time! That's just the way things were! And they were awesome! 80s were the best time to go through high school

1983 was the greatest year in music history and it’s not even close. 1964 was important but 1983 was the best. MTV was a big part of it.

Alot of us boomers rocked to MTV when it came out. Stayed with it untill they changed their programming.

I was 17, about to turn 18 in 1983. It was a real transition from being a kid, to a grown-ass adult. MTV was there for me.

“Tough cookie” is such an accurate description of Roger. I believe Roger loves conflict and that made him a powerful advocate for the band.

The golden year of MTV for me. I was 15 in 1983, didn’t have a driver’s license yet so wasn’t out running the streets yet 😂 so I had plenty of time to watch MTV at my best friends house. This is the year we became obsessed with Prince, and then in 1984 Purple Rain album and movie came out…I didn’t know anybody who wasn’t crazy about Prince, even the older guys we hung out with that were big metal heads loved him. I also remember every time Boy George sang, “Do you Really Want to Hurt Me?” The guys would all say, “yes!” 😂 I can actually feel the shag carpet we’d lay on in front of the TV, room dark, hanging out and discussing every video that came on..

Blancmange “living on the ceiling” is one of my favorite songs EVER, I have no idea how it wasn’t a bigger hit. Born in 1987 but I love music :)
