IS MACBOOK PRO 16 ANY GOOD FOR ARCHITECTS
My opinion on MacBook Pro 16 inch late 2020 edition.
Is it a good fit for an architect or are there better choices?
I look at it from a Windows user perspective.
This is the last intel based 16 inch MacBook Pro so should You get while You can, or should You wait for a new version with a chip designed by Apple?
These are questions that I try to answer in this video.
The specs for my MacBook Pro 16:
Intel i9 2.3 8-Core
32 GB RAM
AMD Radeon Pro 5600
2TB SSD

    I think it's also good to mention the intimacy aspect of it. I think smaller scale firms can have more opportunities to be more hands-on with their projects, strike better personal relations with their clients (some even become friends), appreciate the day to day life better, than being an employee in a massive firm where you might not even get a chance to see the light of day. Also ties into freedom? Despite the bigger responsibilities undertaken in a small firm, I think one can have better agency in managing their time.

      Just try to ask in a relaxed way.. don't look too technical inquiry. The formal briefing will come afterwards

    Why would you run Windows on a MAC? Get a Windows laptop for that!!

    Thank you very much for your review. A question! Do you use Revit in Bootcamp or in parallels?

    • @proceedtoarchitecture327
      @proceedtoarchitecture327 3 года назад

      I would use Revit only on windows through Bootcamp, I am not a fan of an idea, that parallels can not take the advantage of using full hardware potential and you can only use some of your RAM, only few processors, and the macbook would get much hotter which would cause slower performance of the intel chip, because it has to run its iOS and then a virtual machine inside on top. The performance will always be better if you run windows via bootcamp. Parallels are only good for lighter apps, or if you need windows apps rarely.

      @@proceedtoarchitecture327 Ok, I'm using Mac for 10 years. And I use Archicad. But now I'm using Revit also in my Macbook pro 2014 that it's old. Now I'm considering buy new Macbook pro 16 with 64 g memory or an Asus with windows or wait for new apple silicon macbook pro.. Thank you very much!

    • @proceedtoarchitecture327
      @proceedtoarchitecture327 3 года назад

      @@sungjoonpark8914 apple silicon does not support windows and many windows apps even with parallels and therefore revit would not work, at least for now.. so it must be macbook with intel chip or any other windows laptop if you plan to use revit:)

    Do you have a template of questions to ask

    • @proceedtoarchitecture327
      @proceedtoarchitecture327 3 года назад

      I have general categories of questions, like legal documentation needed and what's missing, design related questions, general process (where I would explain who does what and when, will talk about it in the end even without being asked). Every time its a little different reacting to the type of a client, but its very important to have a structure for your discussion because it gives You more confidence and you are always in control of conversation. Design related questions are very important, its the time where You can get a little bit more personal and most clients decide whether You are a good fit for them. Sometimes clients bring examples of other projects that they like and if You are able to tell its cons and pros in relation to clients wishes and exact location in a few minutes You are in a good position. If you run out of design questions try to show some previous works of Yours that are somewhat similar to what client wants and that could lead to a wider discussion looking at different choices and why that would or would fit to your new potential clients. Good luck!
