whatever else sven may have done, and not trying to diminish the work that other people have done in this regard, history will record that sven's contribution to sudoku was as significant as the bessemer converter to the production of steel.
You sneaked an advertisement for your channel into the Congratz Box for Mark Goodliffe's most recent Christmas Tree Sudoku Puzzle solve... And now you have 500 more subs like magic...! I also noticed that you really only do live streams on this channel. Great...! How do you feel about deterministic parallel-thread optimization search algorithms, for engineering design? Byte-wise cryptographic check-sums, perfect and complete hash-functions, never perform the same calculation twice, and make sure to keep your program running in CPU Cache by using dense working memory data-structures. Either way, you're doing a great job incrementally improving the CTC Puzzle Software...!
With regards to the "Note: Puzzle does not have embedded solution." message. I would have put that into the popup at the start and into the puzzle notes, but maybe not into the constantly shown rules window, but it is your call.
I love the idea of after a few solves or loads, cosmetic features have a notification that they can be disabled. I think this is better than having it off by default. Another option for 3-in-the-corner is to have it off by default for sudokupad urls, and on by default for the ctc urls.
With the pencilmark colour thing, to clarify, people were asking for the ability to have multiple colours of pencilmarks in the grid. This way they can use them to mark extra information, such as marking pencilmarks for rows or columns instead of just boxes, or the ability to make a "special" pencilmark (such as negative constraints or S-cells etc). I know this is a pain, but people asked, so I passed it on.
I also love the idea of being able to fully customize the colour palette. More themed puzzles like we did with the Barbie Sudoku Series would be amazing.
I have been watching a few people play this game recently. I think it would drive me insane, even though it's something I would love in concept. I think I will settle for watching you :D I am so glad this is happening.
It definitely has some rough edges, and I feel like I should search online for the details. But it's Early Access, and that's expected. I'm looking forward more to my second go-round when I understand the basics better.
Hi sven, first, thanks for a great app! Have been using it four a couple of years now. Running in to problems now, seems I have uploaded to many puzzles in it. I have maybe around 7-900. Is that the limit and is there a way I can delete the ones I have completed. Thanks, all the best, johan in sweden
Hi, Sven. I have a suggestion for an implementation in the app: A count of the cells currently selected. I don't think, that it would take away much from the joy of solving, but it would definitely help when doing several types of variants, where you have a lot of cells to count - for example in counting circles variants.
Yeah, I'm working on a new stand-alone app that will be self-contained and therefore give some opportunity to experiment with new features strongly dependent on the given data. But you know I've long planned for some of these things to be available in SudokuPad, and this will be a great opportunity to test them out before bringing them into SudokuPad!
how do I import alot classic sudokus into Sudokupad? do you know some webside that have alot classic sudokus with a link to sudokupad? I really want to play more classic sudokus on Sudokupad
You cannot import in bulk, but here are some experimental pages with some classics and killer sudoku: beta.sudokupad.app/assets/nyt.html beta.sudokupad.app/assets/demokillers.html

Oh, these aren't my puzzles! These are all community made. I'm working on some resources to find them more easily. The best place to start is the CtC fan Discord, and the other RUclips channels linked on mine.
I have been watching cracking the cryptic for a couple years now but have always wanted to watch you sven. I am an aspiring python coder and thoroughly enjoy this stream and can't wait to see a stream live. You do amazing work!
Glad you find it interesting! I'm quite active on the CtC fan discord (and others), and am always happy to discuss tech internals! I'll also be on the SudokuCon 24 hour live stream starting on Saturday to talk about this stuff some more!
I’ve been playing around with the replay GIF animation function, but it never seems to finish. If it doesn’t create an animated GIF in the same time it takes to solve the puzzle something is wrong in my opinion. Does it work?
I've created many animations with it. I'll probably need more details. Have you tried a small animation with just 1 or 2 frames? What operating system are you using? If you can open the console (F12), do you see any error messages there?
Basically a way to "broadcast" a puzzle directly within the app. I hope this will be useful especially for streamers where the latency of the video might be too high.
I bought SudokuPad and I love it. One thing seems to have changed though, that I really liked, and that is being able to highlight diagonal lines. Hint, hint. :)
@@SvenCodes - Hey Sven, it is still the same. I bring this up to you because I thought it was just me, but I saw Mark from CTC and his video yesterday and he commented on it also at around the four and a half minute mark. He ended up using the pen tool to draw lines. I just tried it on my purchased version and that is good, so I would assume CTC uses the beta version in their links, and as I say, there is still the issue with it. I would say I noticed the difference within the past few days, but probably not longer than a week ago. Another example is orthogonal cell lines. Previously, if I wanted to pencil mark only cells 1 and 7 in a box, I could usually 'ride the line' between cells 4 and 5, but that doesn't work now either, at least not nearly as easily as before. (I know I could just go out of the puzzle edge to go from 1 to 7, so I guess let's use box 5 as my example because I can't exit a puzzle edge to do that). I hope this all makes sense. lol.
Not my commercial app. But I'm trying to open source some core libraries for sharing with related projects. It's an ongoing effort: github.com/SudokuPad/sudokutools
Hey, Sven, I'd like to suggest a new feature. When you hold down a key, perhaps 'N', then all the user-added marking have their opacity set low so you can see the original grid markings, and another key, perhaps 'M', that does the opposite, it sets the opacity of all the original grid markings low. The idea here is to aid in distinguishing the original markings from the user-added markings when they overlap.
Hi, unfortunately I don't have enough time to follow all the videos (as I am a medical student) so I don't know if this matter was talked about, I wonder if it will be possible to add to the app menu all the puzzles that are presented on the CTC channel, this way the community will be able to see which puzzles are possible to play and maybe later there could be a search or separation by rules or difficulty or even user data base. I know that even if it in planning process it will take a lot of time, just wanted to raise this topic into a brainstorm
Also instead of writing the same rules over and over, if it normal rules there could be just "normal sudoku rules apply" and while clicking with the mouse on the "normal sudoku rules" it would open an informative window explaining
Hello! Have you concidered changing the black color to white? Or adding a white color? I think that would be a much more useful color when shading cells 50/50. Black is useless since its hard to see the numbers. Having the option to shade calls white + another color would be very useful.
Sven, I absolutely love your app. I will not play puzzles unless they are on it, and that is extending to CTC's 500K pack, which I was looking forward to playing. Anyway, I am now going to be the obnoxious person that makes a suggestion. It would be great if you could make it so that we have the ability to mark, in some way, sandwich, diagonal, etc., clues that have been used, I made this suggestion on one of Simon's video's a while back and it got lots of likes. Keep up the fantastic work.
Are there different versions of the app as it looks like the ipad version has not been updated for 8 months and several updates have been done on here since then? Thanks.
For 'improved layout/customisation' for the webapp could we have an option to close/minimise horizontally everything to the right of the grid (the description box and the keypad/options). The reason is I sometimes like to solve the puzzle using a window that is half the screen, with another window open adjacent on the other half of the screen. If you implemented what I have described there would be no reason for the grid itself to be smaller when I do this. As I solve using keyboard I rarely need to access the buttons to the right of the grid. There could be a small vertical tab off the right edge of the grid that allows you to show and hide the parts to the right of the grid, and after minimising it should have the grid itself centred in the window and taking up the full height.
There is a feature request for a better layout system. Please vote for your favourite features here: trello.com/c/6CLyH7e8/19-improved-layout-customization-stream-2022-02-18 Oh, and don't forget my "viewer's choice" stream today in about an hour!
I am doing a filomino Mark is working through. He mentions of course that the software can't check if a solution is correct. My idea is to add an optional feature that allows an admin to input a solution for any grid (e.g. Mark, once he is done with the video).
This feature already exists. Sadly, it depends on the setter adding that info and neither Simon nor Mark usually bother. I know some setters who do, though.
How do I import puzzles? The links under the CtC videos do not work and the App do not tell me where I get the right links (or links at all). That is really frustrating :(
The link should open the web app, where you just need to click the "Open in SudokuPad" button. Sometimes Chrome "forgets" the configuration, then try another browser. Although restarting Chrome usually fixes that.
Another idea for you that does not relate to the GUI but for the puzzle verification. You could add signature type verification for puzzles that can not be verified using an algorithm. So when the puzzle creator has completed the puzzle they can then generate signature for the correct solution. This makes verification for those odd puzzles possible. I don't know if you already have the cage sum checks in verification process or not, but signatures would also take care of that as swapping any digits change the signature. Signature of course only work if there is one unique solution so that would be on the puzzle maker. Edit: Awesome piece of SW btw. 👍
That feature has been available for about a year now, and I think there is less than 5 puzzles actualyl utilizing it. Sadly I am at the mercy of the puzzle setters, and feature documentation is severely lacking as well.
This is most likely a case of "I don't need documentation I know what I'm doing". 😄 I just found out the app due bumping into "Cracking The Cryptic" channel so sorry about this. It was just the first thing that came to my mind: If you do a puzzle using signature would be the best way to verify it. You could maybe make the signature creation part of the process of making a puzzle public. Would need the initial state and complete state to be available before allowing any puzzle to be public so that way all puzzles would have it, but that would probably need quite big changes from you. Maybe worth considering that for your long term development plan.
@@SipuliSankari Since the puzzle setters are the lifeblood of the community, I strive to make things easier for them. I'm working on a tool that lets them load in any puzzle and add things like a solution after the fact, including some hints and suggestions of how to improve their puzzles!
