Save Your Soles! How to Properly Repair Detached Outsoles At Home: Must-Know Tips and Hacks DIY Easy
I have a leather that had cracks on it and I tried removing the leather coat and my plan is coloring it with acrylic. Would that be right? I can't afford to lose the shoes, because I only wore it once, when I got married.
it annoys me that shoes that are meant to be worn to get dirty need TOOLS to clean them. the shoes themselves were already expensive enough smh 😔
Totally get where you’re coming from! It can be frustrating to spend a lot on shoes and then feel like you need more tools just to take care of them. But I’ve found that a little maintenance goes a long way in keeping them looking great and lasting longer, which helps make the investment worth it. But yeah, I feel you on the added cost. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Hi, sorry I don't see the link for the suede eraser. Please share!
Hey friend! My best suggestion is to invest in the Leather Honey Nubuck & Suede Care kit. It includes a premium suede eraser along with everything else you'll need. You can find it here: amzn.to/3T934vk [Amazon] If you're looking for just the eraser, this one is decent: amzn.to/40fvKqQ [Amazon] I wish the best for your project! Please note that these are affiliate links, so I make a small percentage from the sale.
Just found your channel through Leather Honey. Love your ability to clearly explain how leather works and why it needs to be cared for in a certain way to preserve its lifespan. I feel educated and excited about giving my leather work boots and gloves the care they deserve. 👍
Hey Katie! Thank you for the kind words. It excites me that you're excited with the knowledge to better steward your leather. I'll do my best to keep making videos for you guys. Please like, subscribe, and share. It means a lot. Thanks!
I took a hairdryer to my UK made docs and this worked a treat . The Minuite the toebox cooled down I couldn’t tell where the dent was.
Wow! That's awesome. So happy it worked out for you. I'm working on another video on how to remove creases on my favorite boot brand. Keep an eye out 👀!
Very good, thank you. Your expertise answered a problem I have with my boots. I will follow your example. And also use the products that you have demonstrated. SUBD, 👍
Thank you so much for watching! I hope it turns out well! Let me know!
I have a shoes but its not whiet it is blue can I use the Rubber to clean it??
Great question, habibi. Yes, you can clean it with the rubber suede eraser, just know that some blue dye may come off with it, but it's normal. Colored suede is a little harder to clean, but I hope the results are good for you.
And I'll try to use a blue rubber mabye it will work. Thank you habibi😂❤@@evumies
Will the dye be permanent or temporary
Hey there. This type of dye from Fiebing's is indeed permanent.
Great vid
Thank you so much for watching! Please share it with your friends and family. :)
this is so helpful! thank you!
That makes me happy to hear. Thanks so much for watching! Please like, subscribe, and share!
Does that felt marker work with oils? I'm always oiling my handmade leather shoes and it's messy.
Honestly, that's a great question. I'm going to try it and maybe make a video if it works!
I’m too afraid to try this but I would pay someone who can do the job. One of my favorite pair of boots need fixing.
Hey, I totally understand. It's not for everyone. Though, I've found that there's much reward with taking calculated risks! I'd suggest practicing on a cheaper or less "favorite" pair of shoes! You can find any good projects at your local thrift (if you're willing). All the best!
What do you do to keep it from changing color so drastically. They look like you dipped them in motor oil. I prefer the look of the original leather color you had. I ruined a pair of boots just like that.😢 can too much conditioning be reversed?
Hey Jose! Thanks so much for watching. So, the color of the leather is due to dryness. I know it's a nice color, but the original color was much darker. If you use oil based or wax based conditioners, your leather will darken, however, you can use other brands out there that likely darken (like leather honey) or claim to never darken (like bick 4). You can find all of these here kit.co/evumies for all my favorite leather supplies. All the best and let me know how it turns out!
What about white mess part ? ...
Hey friend! Thanks so much for watching. You mean the "mesh" part? I'd suggest taking a damp towel with shoe cleaner and trying to gently rub that area without getting the suede wet. Mesh is usually very durable and made from something like nylon, so it should be safe.
Good job. That was one tedious piece of work.
Thanks for the encouragement! I appreciate it! Great to hear from you again.
Hello! Is there a way to dye the heel also or will this dye work to dye the heel?
Hey there. That's a great question. Honestly, it depends on what the material is made from. If it is something porous, like leather or wood, it can be dyed with the same process. However, if it is plastic or rubber, that is not very porous, it cannot absorb the dye or waxes. You will need to paint over it, which may not turn out very well. I hope that answers your question! Let me know how it turns out.
@@evumies thank you for the quick response! I'll give it a try and see what happens. I'm about to dye some Frye boots I picked up for $10 at a thrift shop. No real loss if it doesn't turn out lol.
@@aliciasmith7526 My pleasure. If you're doing Frye boots, you're in good hands. They only use premium materials. I actually restored a pair of frye boots, check it out: ruclips.net/video/mK0T8kI9FUY/видео.html
I just got a new pair after 3 years continued use, they're made in Laos now....
Nice! Yeah, I've found that the ones made in Thailand or Laos have thinner leather, which is better for breaking in but may not last as long. What's your opinion on it?
@@evumies it's only been three weeks, I think the leather seems harder if anything. The last Chinese made pair lasted well I'm about to clean them up as a spare pair
Best scuff repair video! Thanks
Wow, thanks for the compliment. I try! Haha. Appreciate you watching. Feel free to subscribe and share the video for more content like this!
I already cleaned them with water and ruined them 😢
Hey friend! Thanks so much for watching. Sorry to hear about your suede! You might still be able to restore it with these quick steps for rejuvenation (not cleaning): Let it dry fully: If it’s still wet, give it time to dry completely. Use a suede brush: Gently brush the suede in one direction to lift the nap and smooth things out. Apply mink oil spray: Lightly spray mink oil to condition and revive the suede, but remember this is just for rejuvenation, not cleaning. I'd suggest angelus mink oil spray here: kit.co/evumies Brush again: Once dry, brush the suede to bring back its texture. These steps should help freshen up the look of your suede! Let me know if it helps.
@@evumies thank you so much 😊
Thanks!
No problem!
I have a question. Are Doc Martens supposed to scuff really easily because I’ve had mine for only 3 months, and they have a lot of scuffs already.
Hey friend. I've dealt with hundreds of docs and what I can say is it depends on what type of model and material you get (leather, patent, suede, faux leather, etc). Can you give me a little more detail on which ones you have? Then we can go about understanding why and how we can make them look like new.
Wonderful video, as always.
Thanks so much for watching!
Any advice on how to clean black stain on white suede? I tried some alcohol and cloth but I think it made it worse. Is there any way to remove it?
Hey friend. It all depends on what that "stain" is from. Do you know? If you know, you can determine what's needed to treat it. Sometimes it's permanent, but it really just depends on what it is. Let me know!
@@evumies i think it's an oil stain. It's one of those stains that came from grease from a car.
@@Chinoiserie9839 Ok. Well, there's a few things you may want to do. Unfortunately, your suede is pretty much ruined, so using water to rinse it off may be of some use. Grease on suede can be tricky, but here are a couple of options you can try-just keep in mind these are at your own risk: Baking Soda: Sprinkle baking soda directly on the grease spot and let it sit for a few days. It should help absorb the oil. Afterward, brush it off with a suede brush or soft cloth. Baking Soda + Dish Soap Scrub: Mix a small amount of baking soda with dish soap, gently scrub it onto the spot, and let it sit for an hour. Then, rinse off thoroughly with water and allow the shoes to air dry. Make sure to brush your suede once it's dry. You may need to rehydrate the suede with some mink oil spray to soften the suede fibers after. Let me know if it works!
@@evumies i will try these...thank you very much! I'll get back to you when it works
@@Chinoiserie9839 Looking forward to it!
thanks, looked for this info
Thank you so much for watching! I appreciate you taking the time to write!
I used a transparent spray to my suede Light camel color shoes and i got black spots on it unfortunately i will try this method hope it’s not too late
Hey friend! Thanks for watching. Black spots? or darkened spots? Did you clean your suede before you sprayed it? If you oversaturated your suede, it may have left "water marks" or areas where the liquid dried up and accumulated the dirt. Have you tried brushing the spray through your suede yet? If that doesn't work, you can try something to fix it at your own risk. In order to remove water marks, (if this is actually what the issue is), you'll want to try to spray the area again and brush it through. If that doesn't work, try to saturate the entire suede shoes in water. Do not soak. This may ruin your suede, but it is the best solution to get rid of water marks. Then pat dry and air dry. THen brush thoroughly to reset nap. You may need to use the spray once more at the end if it's a mink oil hydrator for suede. Let me know if this works. All the best.
@@evumies Hello! actually darkened spots, actually i tried the Eraser and now it’s much better, and for the spray i think it’s not a good i dear for light suede at all even with brushing, it’s way more helpful with brown and black suedes, Thank you for the Details, 🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@hazemm9277 Oh, awesome! So glad it worked without having to do much. Definitely appreciate darker colored leathers, haha. Much easier to work with!

I'm really happy to have seen this vid, as I plan to dye my loafers black as the cordovan color it had was not my taste. Seeing this gives me some hope and saved me 50$ as I have all the necessary tools at home. I just need the leather dye 🎉
Hey Alex! Thanks so much for watching. That's great you saved $50! That's my goal--to help you save money while loving items you already have but need a little TLC. So many people don't know what to do and end up tossing or giving away items that they would otherwise value and love. Let me know how it turns out!
I spray some waterproofing over them after cleaning as well. Two passes over a few hours and they are good to go for a few months.
That's great! Thanks so much for sharing your process. Love it.
I think the water proofing chemicals are very toxic for you, so you can't touch your shoes (especially while shooting laces, etc).
There's some incorrect things mentioned here. Almost all mass-factory leather contains a flexible clear coat over the leather top. It comes in matte/semi-gloss/gloss variations and is impermeable. Conditioning leather products do nothing more than sit on the top layer. The only way to get through that layer is by removing it with acetone and scrubbing pads and must be reapplied immediately. There may be some very small benefit in coating that clear layer with a conditioning product but it's really just floating on the top clear coat and maybe providing some UV protection if it's mixed in. Source: I worked at a leather dye and repair company.
Hey Liam! Wow, that's great information. Thanks so much for sharing. I'll definitely keep that in mind. As I mentioned in the video, leather car seats are so heavily coated. I have experienced that the UV does protect and the conditioner does provide some hydration, even to the coating on the leather, making it more flexible rather than staying dry. Also has helped me prevent cracking. Would you agree? Most flexible materials have some sort of moisture or oils in order to be flexible i.e., rubber, vinyl, plastic, etc. If we can restore any moisture by hydrating with a conditioner, it would prolong the life of the material, no? Thanks so much for watching and informing us with your expertise!
@@evumies Hi! I'm not sure but it would be an interesting long term test to take 2 seats over 5-10 years and do a coated / uncoated test. Maybe an idea for a video? I'm sure there would be some benefit but eventually all leather dries out and needs replaced one day.
@@liamvg That would definitely be a great test! I'll definitely keep it in mind. Yeah, unfortunately all leather needs to be replaced eventually, but we can all agree that it lasts longer when properly cared for. Thanks so much for your valuable input. I look forward to hearing from you in the future!
He is cleaning a new pair of boots..🙄
Hey Erik! Thanks so much for watching. This isn't a 50 year old boot restoration if that's what you were looking for. My goal is to help people keep their boots looking good and lasting long, and they don't need to be old. The best way to maintain your new boots is to care for them regularly. I hope video helped you in some way! Cheers.
I use Leather Honey products for this type of work. Thanks for the awesome tips.
Hey there! Thanks so much for watching. Ever since I got my hands on Leather Honey, my whole cleaning routine has been transformed. Check out my latest videos in collaboration with Leather Honey!
Leave the laces out. Oil the tongue. I oil both sides of the tongue. Oil the sticking then let it set on the sticking. Oil the leather heal too.
Hey! Thanks for sharing. Smart to oil both sides of the tongue! What oil do you use? Have you ever had any issues with the oil deteriorating the glue and having your leather heel come off? I've heard it happen when using oil.
@@evumies I've never had a leather heal come off (from) oiling. I've had them Crack shrink and split from not. Oiling the stitches waterproofs them and protects them. It doesn't damage them.
@@evumies I use Huberds boot grease. If I'm out of that at the time I'll use mink oil. I used to use snow seal in The winter months. If you have Gortex boots I prefer Huberds
@@AnthonyPryor-q1e Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I haven't tried Huberds yet but I have heard it's a really good defense for the elements. Love it!

It looks like a good product! I'm always looking for good auto cleaners. How would you describe the scent of it? I prefer things that are fresh scented, but more mild.
Ryan! Thanks for watching. Great to hear from you. Honestly, I've never tried a better cleaner that I KNOW is safe in every way. The product is unscented. There was a slight but pleasant cleaning odor at first, but it dried with no smell whatsoever. I think that's a good stance when not everyone likes the same smell. Let me know if you try it out! I'd imagine this is good for motorcycles, bikes, and any other outdoor gear and vehicles that are constantly in the sun.
@@evumies Perfect, unscented is a fine option! That allows for using the cleaning product, and then you can add whatever scent as a final touch if you like. I'll definitely order some at some point using the code! I'm happy to see the channel is growing nicely too!

I love your videos. Can you make video - how to take care of "artificial leather" shoes? Would love to know how to maintain them. Those are just regular shoes that we use .
Hi there! Thanks so much for your comment. I may consider it, but I am against faux / vegan /artificial leather material because it does not last and is bad for the environment. Nonetheless, I can still potentially make a video for it in the future. I will consider it! Thanks for watching.

I recently cleaned my suede shoes with a Jason mark cleaner and brush and now the suede is stiff..if I use the eraser will the softness come back or am I doomed ?
Hey friend! You're not doomed! It looks like Jason Mark Cleaner's description notes that it is safe on suede, so what seems to have happened is that you may have used too much product or that you did not properly dry it. Either way, here's what I would do if it were me. Option 1: Did you use too much cleaner? In order to soften your suede again, make sure to remove all the cleaner from your suede, which may involve wiping down your suede with a damp cloth until all the suede seems like there's no cleaner left in it. Next, let fully dry. Once the suede is dry, brush it vigorously, but gently. Pushing too hard on your suede can ruin it. You may see some suede fibers breaking off, this is normal. Just wipe them away. Brush until suede's texture is soft again. From here, your suede should feel much better. If not, option 2: use a suede-specific eraser, which will have grittiness to liven back your suede and also remove anything that would keep it stiff. Use eraser thoroughly on all of the suede, don't push too hard. From there, wipe the eraser shavings off as you go until your suede feels soft again. Brush until soft. If it's still not soft and still stiff, you may consider using a mink oil suede spray which will soften the fibers of your suede. Use directions accordingly on the spray and then brush until suede is renewed. All of this is my suggestion at your own risk and I will not be held liable for any issues. All the best. Let me know how it turns out! I'd highly suggest using Leather Honey's new Suede kit: kit.co/evumies
I recently cleaned my suede shoes with a Jason mark cleaner and brush and now the suede is stiff..if I use the eraser will the softness come back or am I doomed ?

A video explaining how to recondition new shoes... Not really useful
Hey there! Thanks for watching. Did you know that even new leather shoes on the shelf at the store should be conditioned once you bring them home? Whether your shoes are new or old, these maintenance tips will help you keep your leather looking great and staying flexible, even if they look like new. All the best.
would it be better to get one of those little 4-way brush things or to use the type of brush your using for my suede shoes
That's a great question. While I personally own a 4-way suede brush, I find myself not actually using it as much as what I used in the video. But everyone can be different. I'd say the 4 way suede brush isn't for cleaning, just for renewing and caring for suede to brush off any debris for regular maintenance while the suede eraser and other things are for deeper cleanings. Does that make sense? I hope it helps!
yea it does thanks, im most likely just going to get a normal brush with an eraser to clean it
@@renn434 Highly recommend the Leather Honey nubuck and suede kit, it has everything you need. Also, I got a discount code for you guys if you buy from their website for 20% off + free ship, CODE: EVUMIES
Does this work for mildew? My new balance have severe water damage
Hey friend! Great question. So, mildew occurs when the suede leather is left wet for a period of time where bacteria can grow. This bacteria grows in and through the pores of the leather. What that means is that the leather is soaked through and through, which means that simply rubbing off the surface of the leather with an eraser is not going to clean the entirety of the suede, just the top surface. For this unique issue, I'd recommend using a suede cleaner + water to soak your leather footwear and scrub it down thoroughly. Once it's clean, rinse it thoroughly with water so that no dirt or soap is left over. Now for the most important part. Pat the shoes dry as much as possible and then fill it with something like towels or newspaper to absorb the water. This way, the shoes can dry properly to prevent bacteria build up. Do not dry in direct sunlight, keep at room temperature or in front of a fan but do not let the leather stay wet. Because I don't know the exact issue, this is my best suggestion. But all of this is at your own risk. I hope this helps, friend! Let me know how it turns out.
Thanks! I’m ordering the kit from Amazon and will give an update
Hi! I'll be waiting for your update! My Rockport sneakers got water damage! They are very comfortable but they look dirty! Thank you!
@@mioangel1227 What types of leather is your rockport sneaker made from?
@evumies The description says: genuine leather! It's suede type, color cream. Thanks for asking!
My suede cream docmartins doscolloured, can i use bicarb as etasure aint working? Thanks
Hey friend! Suede doc martens, nice. It's hard to understand what you're asking, but if you're asking to use baking soda to clean suede, I'd say it may not be the best choice, though it is safer than other products. Because I don't know your exact situation, it's hard to advise. However, I'd suggest using suede-specific cleaners first before trying other things. There is suede erasers of course, but also suede liquid cleaners that are safe for suede. Let me know how it turns out! If you need any supplies, I'd suggest these: kit.co/evumies
Lol, i use bleach😢
Oh no! Definitely don't use bleach! That'll ruin your suede for sure, haha. Well, maybe it's too late, but definitely not recommended! I'd suggest leather-only specific products as they are formulated and tested for best results.
