The Howard Stern Show's Greatest Moments! 🧊 Tier 2: Howard Stern Show Iceberg
In this video we will explore Tier 2 of the Complete Howard Stern Show Iceberg.
This Iceberg was put together by myself, Thomas. I spent LOT of time on this series from research and writing, to collecting old clips and editing the final product. It's VERY hard to find video from the older years of the Howard Stern Show because they've tried to remove everything from the internet. Hopefully this will bring back some fun memories from the good old days of the Stern Show. This will be a 10 part series. I hope you enjoy it!

As said from 0:45, the games did not come on ROM cartridges. Each cartridge had a special chip which ran the complete game. The console 'base' was just an elaborate connector device with all the buttons and the RF component. How do I know this? I had one and looked inside when on my first console the color did not work. There was an RF module, lots of connectors, the buttons, etc. but definitely not any chip that could have been a CPU (or microcontroller).

0:50 nice to know game and watch influenced the NES controller. I do wish the modern versions had the gbc/gba game and watch games but at least the gbc has one on switch online. 1:48 my games worked blowing out dust or whatever 😂

My god, imagine spending the equivalent of $1500 on this piece of crap. Even today, most consumers are barely willing to spend *half* of that on top-of-the-line home consoles with massive game libraries.

I saw a picture of this while quickly flipping through the pages in a magazine at a news stand. I tried to find out more from my home collection of cam by magazines but never saw or heard anything of it again. It has been 30 years since then! thank you for covering this. Learning it was in Japan only and sold so poorly and left the market so soon easily explains why I didn't see or hear about it again for 30 years!

I had a Socrates Saitout and it was a love/hate relationship. Maybe it's because it's all I had but I liked playing on this, and remember the tunes it would play while being very slow at loading anything. Other friends had one too and we were exchanging cartridges. The rarest was the language one. The "legend" was that it could speak. However it was indeed very slow, and for me, the point where it failed was the cables of the detachable pads on the keyboard, that would constantly break. It was probably one of my first electronic repairs. If I wanted to play the Socrates Saitou, I often had to repair the wires connecting the pads to the keyboard.

So, technically speaking, the video signal is traveling up this wire, and then the electricity coming from the wall socket is coming back, through the same wire. I don't even understand how that works! The only other system I know that does that is the Atari 5200

More like controllers like Coleco Vision and Intellivision. The System looks similar to Intellivision with the cartridge port on the right side of the console and the simulated Wood Grain sticker.

The Bally Astrocade, aka Professional Computer, aka Professional Arcade... was a great console for its time - comparible with the Mattel Intellivision (released 1 1/2 yrs later). Both were slightly more advanced than the mainstay Atari 2600. I think the biggest thing that held it back was piss-poor marketing. They should have put a lot more effort into advertising it multiple places rather just in the back of computer catalogs. And the fact that it went under several different names made the marketing problem worse - probably confused the hell out of potential customers.

The NES maybe top tier, but the SNES, nahhh... It was so much worse than the NES. The NES even outperformed the SNES when games were made for both side by side: the NES games are almost always better. The SNES had a really slow CPU and a bad sound chip with whack memory limitations. I think two others deserve to be top tier: PC Engine and Atari 2600. And there are too many Playstations and Xboxes in the top tier. If there is one top tier, it is PS2, just because of Katamari.

I had this console, given to us by my aunt. It was way better than my friend’s atari 2600 but we couldn’t afford many games. The controller was a pistol grip with trigger and joystick+paddle on top and was really great for its era. Thanks for the bit of nostalgia!

I loved videogames as a kid. That was more of an ''educational activity'' and the console dragging its feet at every step was very annoying. The keyboard and joycons were not nice to use, but some of that was due to the console being so bad / slow. It was in French but I recall it as ''Socrates''.
