We have a lemon tree that is so overgrown and looks like it’s never been pruned. Have no idea where to even start. Not just lemon actually, we have a whole orchard full of trees on a property we just bought, apples (different varieties), plums, pears, oranges, mandarin, fig, grapefruit, pomegranate, cherry… they’re all in need of pruning and not sure where to start with such overgrown trees! Any way I can send a photo to get some tips?

Just FYI: you can stimulate new growth from an existing bud with a relatively high degree of predictability and success without making a heading cut by using the bud notching method. Simply cut a notch directly above the bud you want to push new growth that is deep enough, and wide enough to sever the cambium layer which causes the hormone signal to bypass that bud as it travels down the limb. This technique allows one to stimulate new growth in a more targeted way than with heading cuts, or in situations where the existing growth that would otherwise be removed by a heading cut is not necessarily undesirable.

I have a lemon tree but the leaves of some shoots have dried up. I have cut the dried parts. It started with the "bark" peeling off. and these branches do not support further growth. Shall I cut the whole tree? OR shall I prune the affected parts? I have had lemons from the tree before.

It's 2 years old and I want to get it in the ground this year. Do I cut the top? At this rate it will be 10 feet and look stupid with this 1 branch.

I love your flowers. The dianthus is amazing. The fragrance that you get from that little flower is pure magic. You get a lot more flowers when you cut the little stems from the flowers that stopped blooming. There are different cultivars. The maiden pink is a very popular cultivar. I planted them in a planter that holds a lot of wood chips. They really seem to love that. Unlike violets, they do not like the wood chips at all. But the dianthus also likes to be planted between some rocks. In a pot or planter they form a compact cluster with many little flowers. In the full soil they intend to spread a bit more with less flowers. This year it was the first year that I tried seeding a variety of wild flower and poppy seeds. But the weather was so bad in my country that the first months of the year nothing was willing to germinate while I was seeding at the recommended time of the year. Now it is the first week of summer and we finally have some better temperatures and less rain with some sunshine. A few days ago I have sown a lot of seeds in pots and planters so that I could put them at the warmest and most sunny spot in my garden, and that went well. Most of the seeds germinated pretty well. But now I have to protect the seedling against the sun otherwise it will get too hot since it is already summer, and now I am in the situation that when the sun does come out it is too intense for the seedlings. So to protect the seedlings from getting too hot I am using some shade cloth so that the seedlings can grow a bit more while protected and become more sun and heat tolerant as they grow bigger. But your little patio sure is an inspiration. One day I hope to have many flowers in my borders as well. But I am still in the learning stage when it comes to planting in the soil, and what will work with my local conditions. Because my borders are pretty shady during the day.
