I was wondering how can you force molt the crabs? I use a net and walk through this marsh area when the tide comes in and can catch about 8 (of size) an hour and when I get back I'd like to force molt them. Can I put them in a crab pot/bushel container in the water to give them time to molt? What other ways can you force their molting?

I made it like a pro! Thank you. I couldn’t access your video-I went from memory. Made my crab stock. The soup-Olive oil onions, scallions, corn, carrots. Then lots of fresh herbs, claw meat & Old Bay! Seemed watery but delish. But 1 day later, much better. I was told the starch from the corn thickened it up. Nice!

I am in my 70's and have been eating crab soup for a very long time. My dad was from Maryland and had the credentials to be a gourmet chef. (He never worked as a chef, though. The days were too long!) He made a version of Maryland crab soup that was very close to this recipe. He used Old Bay seasoning. In fact, he used Old Bay on most of the seafood he cooked. I got to the point I was burned out on Old Bay. For many years, I skipped the Old Bay and experimented with other spices. Today, I use Sriracha instead of Old Bay. Sriracha and just a dash of soy sauce. - And, like dad, I use stock instead of water. I use crab stock, fish stock or at least chicken stock.

Ya know. If you're going to quote a recipe from a book, could you wt least follow it? I spent an extra 20 minutes clarifying butter because that's what the recipe calls for and you just dump regular butter in there. Also, the recipe says use a stock pot, you used a deep saute pan. Just annoyed at the process since the recipe and the video don't match.

I use hammer to smash crabs claws
Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap hpammer smashing provides shell fragments now requiring their removal..... one healthy strike on the shell or knife back will score to release the morsel after a twist.
Leave the legs ON. Makes it easier to twist and pull the body meat out in one big clump.

Being as though I am from Baltimore Maryland near the Downtown Lexington Market...We don't do it like that...We use our teeth to crack the claws and legs open. Then we use our fingers to open the crab and we call that yellow stuff inside the crab...we call it mustard...but its really the (doo doo)....LoL yup thats it da doo doo..and its Tasty umm...umm...umm good. We do not use butter knives nor do we use the wooden mallet...that take up too much time. By the time you use all those utensils on one crab I would have whistle cleaned and ate a halve a dozen of your crabs.
Anyone else noticed he removed the lid 13 times. Once for each crab and once for useless check at 15 mins cook time
