The thing that made this scare so effective to me is actually because of how Outlast displays popups. In the easier difficulties you could actually figure out which doors open or are locked because the prompt to open doors is only shown on working doors. I figured that out while playing whistleblower, and then comes the door where Eddie is first shown, the door is locked but the prompt still appeared.
