chubb's in france ( our french renovation)
Великобритания
Добавлен 16 янв 2024
We are Gina and Chubb, and we are renovating this small holding to eventually retire to France. we hope you will follow our adventure. we will try to keep the videos real to life and all the missapps that happen . we can only visit in our work holidays but will try to keep you up to date with what happening, these videos may not be correct with real time as we only get to the property every few months. we are new to all this renovation stuff and are by no means experienced in renovating ,we will learn as we go .thanks for subscribing, and we hope you enjoy our videos . Most of our videos are as they come un edited, so there may be a bit of rude language. I will try to get the hang of this editing thing and give you better footage. Thanks for watching .
First look in the small barn with my grandson
This is the small barn that is attached to the old cottage. we are not sure what we are going to do with the top section but the bottom will be a store room/shed hope you enjoy the video ,thanks for watching

we have got a bit of demolition on today. This bedroom has had a plasterboard false wall and ceiling put in and we want to strip it out and put the original beams on show, this is the start of our first job in the small cottage please be nice and try to ignore the poo bear belly. We are going to replace the Velux windows with new ones. insulate and board the roof in between the main beams thank...

Just a bit of cleaning up, in what will be a shower room and small kitchen. This room is attached to the little cottage. I will be putting a door through to the property so it will be more useful. #cottagelife #expatlife #farmhouse #france #livinginfrance #renovatinginfrance #ruralfrance #renovation #stonehouse
Will it fall down or can we rebuild it

A walk round the old cottage and the small barns. Nothing has been done in these yet as we are concentrating on the small cottage. this one is roughly 224 years old and we belive has not been occupied since 1999 so it needs a lot of work .

What a wonderfull property! I wish you lots of happiness with this new adventure.
Thank you very much. we think it's beautiful and can not wait to be able to move there
Distingo la imagen de un monje franciscano en el muro izquierdo de la puerta de salida 😲
Speriamo che stia vegliando sulla nostra casa 😊
It doesn't take long for the ivy & bramble to grow back even when you dig the roots out. Our field has a large patch of bramble which needs clearing but I keep putting it off 😊
Very true! It's going to be a on going battle, I think as long as we can keep them away from the house, I will be happy 😊
@@Chubbsinfrance Yes it's a pain when ivy & bramble gets into stonework, it does a lot of damage. We had two derelict barns full of the stuff. The one barn we managed to clearout & get a new roof on it but sadly we haven't got the money to restore the second barn at the moment. It has been without a roof since the late 80s so hopefully the walls might stay up for a bit longer 😊
We are in the same predicament we have got a big barn with only half a roof and the old cottage needs a lot of work on the roof. My plan is to take tiles off the barn and use it on the cottage, hopefully saving some money. Our only problem is that we still live in the UK at the moment so only get there in work holidays
@@Chubbsinfrance We are in the UK too & only get over to Brittany for about 6 weeks each year (usually 3 trips). We managed to stay there for 6 months in 2012 which was fantastic. We would love to be able to do that again 😊
@MikeFairman that's the same as us. 3 trips a year, we are going back at the end of June. I just watched some of your videos. You've got a lovely place, and we saw your barn that needs the roof, lol
As soon as I saw how bad it was i thought if there's one bloke i know that can get that running its you 😃👍
It will cut grass again, lol 😆
It helps knowing how to fix these mechanical machines. It’ll save you loads of money in the long run. I hope it all works out
I can fix most things and will always have a go
I agree with the last comment. You need to communicate as well as do the task. When I watch other similar vlogs they generally film several different tasks so we don’t just sit there watching the same thing for 20 minutes. I will keep watching but I also hope you will become more comfortable as you film more vlogs.
I totally agree! I will be doing more talking when I'm back out in France I will try to get better at this 😀
I have watched all your videos with a like. I am sorry that this one I had to keep moving forward as it was not very interesting. I want your content to grow and do well and that is why I told you this.
I understand it was just something we tried as we are back in England at the moment and are short on videos to put out, but we are back in france in June, so will get some more done. Thanks for your honest comments
@@Chubbsinfrance Thank you for understanding my intention and not being mad.
Owe Anne frank. Have some respect 😢
Don't understand your comment. We do have respect that's why we are getting rid of the junk and putting it back to original
I love how everyone’s pitching in with the work. You guys have done a lot of clearing. Well done
Thanks so much! Glad your enjoying it
One channel I watch said he found it easier to cut the long grass and brambles with a scythe than a strimmer. If there is one amongst your tools, a sharpen up and worth a try. You have made great progress, not easy when its wet and cold.
Please watch out for old uncapped wells, which are common around old farmhouses.
@@jeanrichardson2044 We did try one but the brambles are so thick it wasn't very good .it might be worth trying again on the short grass .
@@jeanrichardson2044We have one but we know where it is thanks for the concern
We let our grandson have a go with the camera, and this is what he did totally unedited
Lovely progress
Thankyou
You’ve made a huge dent in clearing the brambles, etc
We only about a quarter of the way lol
Brambles gone 👏👏 Looks terrific all cleared up
It can only get better
Yay! One door and one window exposed
We didn't even know they were there .
Yikes! You’ll be clearing for awhile
We have done the main bit, but there is still a lot to do.
The potential is endless
That's what we think too
Wow! Overgrown to the max
We are getting it cut down slowly 🐌
Beautiful land
Thank you, we think the same
What a wonderful surround looks very rural. Great to see cows and lush grass
Gina loves the cows, too
Great clearing it looked like a massive task
It really is! Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
Well at least you’ll have lots of firewood
Yes, we've just got to get a log burner, know lol
Wow! Somewhat over grown
A few years of growth
Good going guys a team effort
I did have some good helpers this day 👍🏻
Where’s your safety glasses naughty naughty. I’m freaking out from all the cobwebs and dust. Your a lot tougher than most 😁
I know about safety glasses. My sister keeps telling me the same.i will try to remember next time lol
Nice firewood stack. French doors/windows l like that. The original door is terrific. Geez! What did they do to the fireplace. New windows and floors, yes. Like your plans so far I’m glad you’ve got a vision for the place. You obviously have a background in building or some sort of trade to do this sort of project. Best of luck. Thanks for the video
Thanks for your comments. You would think I'd worked in the trade, but far from it, I've been a mechanic and lorry driver most of my life
It’s a necessary job, but boy you get filthy
I don't mind getting dirty.
A good bit of demolition
Thank you.
The ground underfoot sounds squelchy. I know France has had some terrible weather and heaps of rain. Lots of potential on your land
Yes,we had lots of rain that week.
Need to explain what you are doing and what building you are in, you previously said that you where going to renovate the smaller cottage, however that doesn't look like the upstairs room on a previous video. Otherwise well done to be renovating an old farm house, most people only get to dream of what you are doing.
Hi, yes, we will be going through what we are doing in future videos. we are new to all this, so we are trying to get better. This is the small cottage bedroom, and there will be a lot more to come in this room in the coming months. we don't get to go back till June. Thanks for your comment 👍🏻 🙂
Ahh good to see you are wearing a mask this time 😊 miss health & safety 2024 😂
I'm trying to get better with this health and safety stuff 😂😂
Good gotta look after yourself 👍 xx
Actually enjoyed the real sounds of construction , and pauses for consultations on how next to proceed. More honest than a bunch of canned music and voiceovers.
Thanks for the comment 👍🏻. We will be keeping it as honest as we can and learning as we go along .
The little building would make a good B&B. You need to watch Mr Bloke, they also inherited one of those trailers and have recycled the wood
We do follow Mr bloke.we haven't made up our minds what to do with this room yet 🤔 we do struggle with doing the videos as we don't live out in france yet so try to do the best we can while doing as much work as we can
This episode was a little slow, i didn't see the door!
These were our first go at videos lol we didn't find the door till the next day 😂
A few tips, to have more subscriber or visitor: you have to talk to the people who watch your videos. Make an intro and an ending part at least, telling the stuff you're gonna do in this part, and your future plans. Nobody want or will read your comments under the video. And if the voices are this bad while working, then use some sub. sometimes. Good luck!
Thanks, we are very new to this and will try to get it better.😀
@@Chubbsinfrance honestly, do what you want. You can't please everyone and you shouldn't have to. It's your channel. I disagree with most of what OP said, which just shows that everyone likes different things. I always read the comment under the video and when there is music I watch with sound off and I speed over intros and stop the video at the ending. I am here for the reno only. See? Can't please us all so please yourself. I wish you the best of luck, quite an undertaking but worth the effort.
@sadielouwho5795 Thank you. I do try to keep it as real as I can. It's hard to do the videos and get as much work done as we can.we only go there in our work holidays, so we just get stuck into the work.
Well done guys 👍 x
Thank you, we've got lots more to do in there so lots of videos to come.
Smashed it out le park 😁👍
Demolition doesn't take long it's the rebuilding, lol 😆
😂😂
😁😁
Those spiders had better be gone before I come over 😒😂
Don't worry, they will be lol
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing. ❤
You are so welcome
Thank you for showing us around and explaining what you intend to do. Well done - lots of hard work but it will be beautiful when it is finished. I’m looking forward to you sharing your journey with us. Thank you ❤
Thank you very much!
Have you got any idea what this building used for? Have you got any plans for it?
Hi, we are led to believe it was a small dairy farm .we hopefully are going to make it our family home to retire to. 🙏
Tell us about yourselves. Why are you moving to France? Where about in France are you? How did you find the property? Where did you move from? ❤
All your answers will be coming up in a vlogg in June when we return to the property. But for your interest and a little spoiler, we are from the Midlands in the uk, and we are both in our fiftys 😁
.?? Car idling for 24 seconds?
We were waiting to go onto the ferry my first time 😅
I’ve found your vlog and very excited to see your progress. When you are taking the videos you need to add comments and tell us what you are doing. Why were you up the ladder? I’ll keep watching but hoping for more comments and longer vlogs. All the best from Australia. ❤
Hi Kathryn, this was an old ladder that we found in the barn. I was just trying it out and having a quick look at the top of the wall,as it needs a bit of work doing to it . We only get to go to the property in our work holidays and we are only just learning this vlogging thing ,we will try to get better and thanks for the questions. We will be doing a introduction video in June when we go back ❤
Thanks for your comment kathryn, we are going to retire there in 2 years time ,im a nurse and chubb's is a lorry driver so all this is very different for us but it is our dream and we are determined to get there. Xxxx
A good cleaning can make such a difference. 👍👍❤️
Definitely! I just need to watch my head next time lol.
Best of luck to you in your renovation . going to be a long hard slog for you both. . for sure with your timescale . to and fro . but if you remain strong and organised I'm sure you will be just fine . .
Yes, you're right it's going to be hard, but we are determined
Hi I have a property about 20 miles from you have had it for 20 years. France is a lovely country . I hope you have plenty of money because France has become very expensive, you will also need lots of energy as trying to get anything done over there is a nightmare, don't even think about the beurogracy can be a nightmare I wish you the best of luck it will be hard going
Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes, france is expensive. we are finding that out ,I'm lucky that I can do most of the work myself ,we just don't get much time as we both work full time back in England and only get across in our holidays.
Park your bike in that bum crack 😂😂 how’s your head ouch 😮
No mask 😳🤷♀️ !!
You know me lol
