    The Becky Joe's barrel leg hack on your website comes right after a hack that narrows the pant leg. I'm confused whether the barrel-leg hack uses the narrowed or original width. I'm hoping you can help answer here. There's no way to contact you via your website.

      I have used a tencel twill and even a rayon challis and was very happy with both. I put everything through the wash (cold, normal cycle), so mine didn't last more than 3 years before fraying, but the long fibers of the linen will help your longevity for sure! -BJ

    Absolutely gorgeous dress. I've made one and will cut some more today. Excellent video, however one thing I think if possible to change would be to make the text in a dark colour as that works better against a mostly light background. It will help those with some visual impairment... Still one of my favourite tutorial videos. And now I am going to go and cut a couple of Romeys!

    When placing waste canvas on the sleeve, it’s confusing because the bottom of the sleeve is curved. Where do you measure the five inches and are you trying to curve the waste cloth.

    • @peggymead8746
      @peggymead8746 2 года назад

      The waste canvas is placed from the bottom underarm seam and yes, it does go straight across. I am working on a second version where I have pieced the waist canvas in three parts so it kind of dips down and follows the curve. If it works well, I may have the instructions updated. If you email me, I can send you a photo of what I've done. However, the sample garment in our product photos has the stitching on the sleeve going straight across.

    If you serge after you've clipped the curve, doesn't that prevent it from moving normally?

    • @clairemilner3238
      @clairemilner3238 Год назад

      No, because if you look closely the seam allowance is slightly pulled to open andlengthen the curve as it is being encased by the serger stitching.

    I already had the Romey pattern and made it up in white handkerchief linen, I live in the UK and couldn't seem to source the waste canvas locally so ordered it from Junebug and Darlin. It arrived in under 1 week. I have done cross stitching before years ago and I also remember the mid 70's and love the fashions of that time. I found the pattern easy to follow, have embroidered my white version in pale pink floss. Am so pleased it looks fab! Have more linen to make another Romey in cactus green, and will use 3 colours this time. Have also now been able to source the canvas in the UK. Thanks for reviving my hand sewing mojo!

    Do you think temporary spray adhesive would work to hold the waste canvas in place? Or will in make it difficult to remove?

    • @Sewhouse7
      @Sewhouse7 2 года назад

      The adhesive will likely make your needle and floss sticky and affect your stitch tension. If you don't want to use pins, I highly recommend basting it into place!

    • @peggymead8746
      @peggymead8746 2 года назад

      Hi Pat. I'm not sure as I haven't used spray adhesive before. You would have to wash away the adhesive before you started to remove or deconstruct the waste canvas I would think.

      It is a simple top that I drafted just for fun. I wasn't planning on releasing it but then have had so many comments that I decided I might make it into a pattern for sale. However, since then, Friday Pattern company has released a very similar top called the Saguaro Set. The only difference is that my top overlaps in the front and doesn't have a front tie but it would be an easy hack. I don't think I will continue working on this pattern now. Thanks for inquiring though.

    • @EllenBoeke

      @@Sewhouse7 Just wanted to say that your top is way cuter than the Saguaro Set. If you ever change your mind about finishing the pattern, I would definitely buy it! I'm passing on the Saguaro set - I'm not good at hacking patterns and theirs is too short, too revealing, the elastic bottom section doesn't look as good as yours and the sleeves are too short!

My mother made several quilts as a hobby, but the older ones I have inherited were made from discarded clothes and scraps - clearly well used. Pardon me for suggesting a book?
