GS - 2 - Starter, risers and fuel filler.
Had to lay the bike on its side and use hammer and chisel to get the seized Allen bolt out.
Starter is now off and opened up to find the magnets had come loose. New ( refurbished) one on order.
Next I took the risers off as they literally falling to bits.
Then seeing as the fuel filler didn’t work with the key, I took the barrel out and removed some of the tumbler pins and filed them shorter.
The ignition key now open the fuel filler.
Discovered lots of flaky bits under the fuel filler so cleaned up and will fit a new O ring.
That’s it for now.

RT - update. Still going…
Просмотров 10521 день назад
Few jobs done. Forgot to mention engine oil change as well…. Will do the gearbox and final drive in the next week or two.
Alvis 19 - almost done the roof.

It’s taken awhile, mainly because of having to wait for it to set all the time, but we are nearly there now with the sunroof repair. Bit of a rambling video but there we go… More on the GS, RT and the final roof repair video next week. #automobile #follow #classiccars #car #restoration #classicautomobile
Alvis 18: more fibreglass…
Просмотров 68Месяц назад
I know. It’s not thrilling entertainment but it’s necessary. Most of the issues in the front of this car were due to the sunroof leaking. The rotted seat stitching, the poor state of the dash… the rotten frame above the screen. It’s a dull but crucial fix.

I had one of these many years ago great 👍 car.
I remember these new, they was mostly bright yellow. But probably the yellow ones just stood out more. I was 13 back then .😢
How many miles...what year.
1998 / 86600 miles so far…
@gastramp And it runs well? I have 1999 70k looks new runs great.
@@jenmac287runs good. It’s had a ton of new parts though. Hal sensor, 1200 injectors etc etc
What is this a Bugatti?
It was

Nice progress. Such is life with a Alvis, but definitely worth the trouble!
I just bought a 1995 GS1100 for $1,700 US. Mine was running rough and came with a ton of extra parts. These aren’t hard to work on but the parts aren’t cheap. I suggest an aftermarket starter off eBay instead of the factory one, cheap and they do work. Draining the tank is a pain in the rump, I suggest taking the tank off and replacing the fuel filter. Upgrade to the 1200 fuel injectors, it will run much better as those atomize fuel so much better. The chain tensioner on the left side will be worn with those miles, it’s a relatively cheap upgrade and not hard to do and you’ll never have to worry about t again. Not going to sugar coat it, the electrical system is maddening and if you’re having faults you will spend hours chasing down the problem. Well maintained, these last forever but require basic maintenance not to be skipped. Cheers!
@@risinbison1106 I have an 1100 RT so all of the things you mentioned I’ve already done to the other Bike.. I will definitely do them to this one once I’ve done some ‘putting stuff right’ bits and pieces.
😄
They look good
They were!
Hey duct tape fixes everything. just ask my uncle red green ....👍🏼👋🏼👋🏼
My beloved XS250 I had one.
Great project. I have exactly the same project and mine was in worse state than yours. I’m about £3k in and still not finished 😢
@@ricktonge ouch 😩 Wish me luck 😂

1:52 - “you’d never know it’d been sorted” - for me, that equals a perfect job. Credit to whoever did the work, they kept the age and feel of the leather, mending it sensitively without turfing all that original leather and replacing it with a brand new hide. Looking lovely 👍👌
@@bens54sapphire agreed. He’s a craftsman. Got to go and pick up the drivers seat this week. 👍
What colour was the car originally?
Original Black over grey with Blue leather. At the moment it’s Jaguar Solent blue over silver with red leather. I’m thinking of painting it all silver… but not sure.
Is your car a TC21/100 "grey lady"? Or a standard TC21?
It’s a TC21/100 Grey lady 👍
Heck ya .👍👍👍👍
Good vid. Enjoyed watching it👍
The interior looks so cool, what car is that?
Triumph Spitfire 1500
I got one brand new in 79 it cost me £750 on the road.
Cool 😎
I owned a bmw for 27 years, and only when I sold it did the new owner show me where the indicators were
There’s a switch on the right there mate for the fans 😂
Yer funny 😊
There's a lot to be learned by groping around in crevices.
I just read the manual, fucking boring though
@@Jeffler3000 I learned from magazines. It didn't really prepare me for Hands On experience. 🤔
20 or something years ago i owned a Fiat Uno. It took me 3 years owning that car to find a enormous ashtray in the middle of the dashboard.😂
Things you didn't know, That we didn't need to know either.
When you suck, you suck hard. I thought it was going to be an ejector seat, but you can't have everything.
I thought this is a classic BMW and you just found the indicator switch! :)))))
I'm clearly enjoying my evening. I laughed more than I should.
😂
You should know where that is in a spitfire lol
It’s not standard. It’s a Kenlowe fan kit.
My car wouldn't keep cool for 12 years 😂
i wondered where i left that….😊
It certainly would be more stable if you have to pee during the night
😂
👍👍
A biker friend had an x reg must have been one of the last ones as didn't ever see a y reg.😊
I'm actually planning a road trip of about 1300 miles to pick up a nice used Super Tenere and wanted to say thank you for providing some of the info I used to make the decision.
That’s great. You won’t regret it. It’s an under the radar choice but a fantastic bike. They’ll be an update on mine coming soon ( probably a couple of weeks ) 🙏
Your front bumper looks like my rear one. I'm tossing up whether to weld & chrome my one or trying to source a better one. They're scarce.
I actually have spare bumpers. The front is going to be re chromed and then it will go on the car. This one will likely be welded and left as a spare. I’ve got a rear as well but I’m happy with what’s on the car for now. Thanks for watching 👍
Keep the videos coming. I bought a TC21 last June and are going through a similar restoration process.
I will. Just been today to refit the doors as I have to drive her a few miles to the welder in the next week or so. If I can help in anyway, just send me an email . Gastramp@gmail.com 🙏
sorry, I just found this great job thanks you don't need to apologise to anyone about the lies, what a lovely bike the breaks are linked i found out i will be looking to get one ASAP. thanks again ATB
Thanks
👋👋👋👋
That engine's gonna have to come out and pulled apart I reckon
I have a plan B… keep watching 👀 😀
Poor bike ..😢
Oh yes. Sad…
Kool bike .. old bikes 🏍️👍👍👍👍✌️
Very cool ! I turned 1 into a hammock under quilt and another into a top quilt. Huge Snugpak fan !
I am too. Was in the Special forces system couple of nights ago. I’ve never needed to use the blanket as extra warmth.. but it gets used on its own in the summer. Thanks for the comment 👍
