My 2nd attempt at a mod build and true to form it didn't go to plan. It's all a learning process though, so hopefully my mistakes can help others on their journeys into modding. Seiko NH34 Batman GMT Master II - My 1st Watch Build

My 1st ever watch build! Ever since falling in love with watches, the Batman style GMT Master II has always caught my eye. Thanks to the NH34, I can now make my own and so can you! Insta 📷 - @modsandmovements My Parts list Nh34 movement s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DC4gl5J Case/Bracelet s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DeGcngV Dial s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DCs9qld (The dial I used is no longer available...
Very nice. I have always liked watches and recently I watched some videos on RUclips where a master watchmaker does repairs on vintage Rolex watches. For some reason it was both fascinating and relaxing. So RUclips recommended your video to me. Very good job, I don't think I could have the patience to do that. The most I do is resize my bracelets when I get a watch. But nice hobby for sure. Cheers!
Thanks for watching, appreciate it! Was that wristwatch revival you were watching? That was kind of where I started also. I’ve been pulling movements down to build up to fixing and servicing watches also. Cheers.
In Toronto canada I buy a super super clone I bring it to a rolex expert he say it was real rolex . Unbelievable. Your super clone look just like mine. You a expert but a regular person like me will never know. Imagine on amzwatch
PRO TIP......The reason you can fit the seconds hand faster the second time is because the edges of the hole in the tube have been rounded off slightly and it slides on more easily. Whenever I'm fitting a brand new seconds hand I always take a fine sewing needle and gently put it in the tube of the seconds hand and roll it around a few times, I can usually get it to seat first or second attempt by doing this.
Nice one!! I’ve wondered if this is the case. Cheers, I’ll try that on the new build I have here. 🙏🏼
It's sad that watches that look good cost over 1k+. MaMaCoo watches are REALLY well made, and it just shows how a brand name on a watch can make its price 10x higher. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?
Dude good job! It looks so sharp! I’m watching a bunch of videos because I’m making my own seiko spork watch 👍.
Nice one mate, good luck with the build! Jump on the Seiko mod reddit page too. So many good modders on there sharing ideas and experience.
How have you found the quality of the metal straps? I paid $80 aud for a case and strap for the AP nautalis mod and the case feels great but the bracelet just aint it. do you have a good source for the bracelets?
I haven’t tried any of the Nautalis cases/bracelets. Most of the bracelets I get are usually better than a real Seiko bracelet TBH. I mostly try to go for anything with high levels of sales and heaps of good reviews. The only time I’ve had an issue is when I purchased from an item with no reviews.
Very nice job I'll obviously make it
Thank you!! Good luck with the build
19:44 sorry, but what is that liquid?
That’s locktight, just a threadlocker
@@modsandmovements thank you very much 😍
Well done, Assembled , not built :)
Well yes, I didn’t pour and lathe the tiny parts lol. Maybe next time I’ll get some ingot to melt down 🤣
A nice first build, the brain fart comment cracked me up, 😂. The second hand is one of the hardest things to master, but as you are now aware it does get easier. Nice looking watch, it will mean more to you than any other watch in your collection, you have instantly bonded with it, enjoy.
Haha yea, lots of lessons to be learnt that’s for sure! I’m about 6 builds in now and much faster at the seconds hand. You’re right about bonding with that watch for sure, been such a cool journey!
Hey, where did you get the dial from?
All the parts are listed in the description. For the dial they seem to delist it a lot. If you search Aliexpress for nh34 ‘s’ dial you should find one
Hey mate do you sell watches ?
Hi mate, yes I’ve actually just started now I’ve got more experience. Send me a message on IG
@modsandmovements
Im about to build my first GMT. Why does the movement require that tiny washer between the movement and the dial
Hi, that’s the dial washer is puts pressure on the 24h wheel when you change it so that it doesn't jump out of alignment. At least that how I understand it to work
thx. Does it get installed with the convex side facing up or down
Convex down I beleive
Which one was the correct hand pusher?
I’ve found these work best. Hour - grey or 1.5 Minute- red or 0.8 Second- white or flat
J’ai arrêté quand je l’ai vu mettre ses gros doigts partout sur le cadran… et appuyer en plein milieu pour l’assembler sur le mouvement… mon dieu!
With gloves on! What do you use to press the dial on?
you need bigger cots man
Haha, I know. Can’t find anything decent. Anywhere you recommend?
@@modsandmovements there should be in different sizes. Good video tho
Sorry, do you mind telling on how much did you spend for all the parts? And also for the parts itself, were some sort of quality level which may effect the price? Thanks…
Hi mate, it cost me $163AUD which is about $107USD. The the parts and tools are listed in the description of the video. I try to stick with good sellers with good reviews. Seems to be the best way to assure quality items.
@@modsandmovements noted, thanks 👍🏻
GMT is not aligned. My boy is cross-eyed 😅
Are you talking about the hand?
Thanks
where can I buy the same dial (with Seiko logo)
You can still get it, just need to search Alix. Try this seller They call them S dial s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_mLkcQKS
I don't know where o buy this Seiko dial.. 😢
You can still get it, just need to search Alix. Try this seller s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_mLkcQKS
@@modsandmovements Ty Man! I see this sellers but i don't see the name Seiko in dial i think is because copy right sure?. Thank you for this mensagem Man! I haver another question Sorry, If a buy a Pagani gmt can i try change for Seiko dial?
I’m not sure about the Pegani watches. It would need to have an NH movement and also work out dial size.
I screwed up a couple of times so.. I'm subbing.. 🤔
Haha thanks. Part of the process I think
I wish I could have one but I'm poor and can't have one but I'm still going to get a plastic watch 😞⌚
If you can save for a little longer and get a mechanical watch with a Seiko NH movement, it could last you a loooong time. There are some crazy cheap watches on AliX with decent movements.
Will everything still work the same if I use the jubilee bracelet??
Yea absolutely. Just make sure the bracelet fits the case and you’re good
Thank you!
@@modsandmovements hey quick question. Do you know where I can buy a dial for my Seiko Daytona mod? I can’t find a dial that has the oyster perpetual chronometer on the dial as well as seiko. Even for my GMT dial I can’t find any that have Seiko on it.
Love the videos! Would be so cool if you had a beginners guide or how to get started tips n tricks! ❤
Thanks mate. Great idea, I’ll work on putting something together! Anything specifically you’d like to know?
@@modsandmovements personally I’m having a hard time with knowing where to buy different parts. Example AliX will have a movement for 10$ and another store with the same movement will be 30$. Is the quality that much different or is one overpriced. Anything is helpful thank you for these videos very inspiring
@BigM6732 Yea the quality can be vastly different. The main thing I like to go off is the reviews people have left
That looks great! Where did you get that bezel? And also, the dial is no longer available. Any pointers?
Yea I think Alix keeps pulling it down. If you just search NH34 gmt master S dial you’ll find them
what does it have to be midnight?
We line up midnight, so the date changes at the right time. Otherwise your date could end up anywhere
I get right down to eye level with the movement to see the seconds hand pinion. It helped me get the seconds hand on a little more easily.
Do you happen to have a list of tools needed for a build such as this?
Hi, tool list and links are all in the description of my videos. ✌🏻
I haven’t attempted a build yet but I have a couple of mods I’ve purchased. These are really great watches and not because the “look” like others….theyre just really great affordable timepieces.
Couldn’t agree more.
I haven’t attempted a build yet but I have a couple of mods I’ve purchased. These are really great watches and not because they “look” like others….theyre just really great affordable timepieces.
They are! I did build some mods with the nh series (34,35,36) and all of them run +- 0.5s to 3s a day after regulation. (beat error unregulated, if I did that they would probably all run in the 0.x s realm) You get nice parts, if you buy from the right shops. for 150-300€ you get excellent parts, under 150 or maybe 100, the quality really falls of. My sweet spot is right about 150 for Ali/ ebay parts and 300ish for mod stores like Namoki and so on.
I destroyed the second hand on my first build. I purchased a pair of magnifying glasses and never had the again. Great investment
Absolutely. I’ve since got a headset and a microscope for taking apart movements. Well worth the investment!
you’re literally my comfort person i love you #mamacoo !
What do you use to measure the crown stem and lnow where to cut it? Seems kind of challenging, can you list that and the stuff you glue the stem to the crown with please? Thank you
Hi, I used a vernier to measure the gap between the crown and the case. Then cut it down bits at a time. Then use lock tight once it’s cut to the correct size
How much dose the whole set cost??
The watch parts were about $160AUD or $108 USD.
@@modsandmovements is The movement from AliExpress actually seiko?
Hi can you let me know from where i can buy the parts to build it
Hi, all the parts are in the description of the video 🤙🏼
love ur channel. just started watched building. built my first 2 today, my own and also built my dad a watch for his birthday/fathers day coming up
That’s awesome! It’s so rewarding and fun to do. I bet your dad’s going to love it!
Thanks for your video's ! Explains and inspires me to do a built as well
Thanks for the kind words! Got a new build video coming soon
Im looking to build this too. Its my first build. What is the Case and Bezel called? The links dont work anymore
I’ll have a look now and update them, I’ll let you know what I find
Just checked and all the links in the description are working. Try this one, case, bracelet and bezel all come together, just pick your colour. Try this one: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DdFyxCP
I also love the logo! Can we use them too? Your batman build inspired me and I have started my mod journey too! Thank you!
Thanks!! You can absolutely create your own logos for watches and apply them yourself. Aliexpress has companies that do it
Great work for 1st attempt mate! Looking forward to more videos!
Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Always working on something the background at the moment!
Check out my other builds on the channel if you haven’t already
Inspiring! I may yet take a plunge at assembling my own watch yet! A good video and example of things to deal with and things that can go wrong, much appreciated this one.
Thanks! 100% recommend it’s so rewarding. And once it’s done it’s something you can own and wear for a long time.
Can you also build this beautiful watch with a good quartz movement? If so, can you provide a link for which one? Unfortunately my experience with NH35 is bad. Delivered with dirt and hair on the inside. The NH34A purchased later runs on time and is better.
I’ve got zero experience with Quartz movements, sorry. The NH series is notionally reliable though, must have just got a dodgy one or dodgy supplier possibly. Anything outside of the NH series, Miyota or ETA clone movements you’ll struggle to find cases and parts etc. or at least be very limited. The NH series of movements definitely offers the widest range of choices.
Very nice!!!
Thank you!!
looking to start building these. this video was super helpful, thank you!
That’s great, glad it was useful. Let me know how you go.
Dial and hands link doesn’t work.
Yea the GMT dials seem to get taken down a lot. If you just search for NH34 gmt s dial you’ll find them.
What did you use to make the logo for the dial ?
These logos were from a website called 4customize. I’ve since ordered more from an AliX seller. a.aliexpress.com/_mtg9H1o
I use a 40x loop for the seconds hands 👍🏼I Birds Eye view of the pinion.
Wow that would be super clear at that magnification!
How could NH34 is a GMT movement?
Yes, it’s a GMT movement
@@modsandmovements but when I search online it's say it's not a gmt movement. Can you please share me components link from ebay. As aliexpress is banned in my country India
@abdulkaleem8927 Sorry, I didn’t buy the parts on eBay so wouldn’t even know which sellers to recommend. The NH34 is 100% a GMT movement
@@modsandmovements Thank you 🙏💕
I am buying all the tools, do you think if I have the loupe that a microscope is required?
Hi, not at all. I’ve you got a loupe you’re going to be able to work it out. I’ve got 5x, 10x 15x and 20x. I used the 5 and 10 the most now. But initially the 15 and 20 were really handy because I had no idea what I was looking at lol. The hardest part is knowing where the pinion is for the seconds hand. 15 or 20 will help you see it and understand where to place it. Hope that helps! Let me know how you go and what sort of watch you build!
