How Do Planes Fly? | Best Learning Videos For Kids

| Thinking Captain. For an object that can weigh up to 500 tons, how can a giant piece of metal fly and stay up in the sky? For a plane to stay in flight it needs four forces to work together: thrust, lift, weight (or gravity), and drag.

Letting the two autopilots do a practice landing on a CAT III ILS - well, not because its CAT III weather, but because you have to stay current in summertime ;) The Boeing 737-800 does nicely... Oh yeah, and this is obviously not a sim but the real deal

How to Start and Operate a Turbofan Engine? | Boeing 737 | CFM56-7B
Oh......at 1:25 the localizer changed from two dots to one dot. When is that supposed to happen? At a certain DME or a certain altitude? Does that only happen on Boeing planes or does the A320 also change from two dots to one dot ?
The loc scale expands when VOR/LOC is active, about 1/2 dot deviation, and the track is within 5° of the selected course (the track was the last item to be met here in this video). On the A320 it doesn't happen, seems to be a Boeing thing.
@@kallek5655 I know there is a button on the A320 next to the FD button that either says ILS or LS. My understanding is that LS stands for "Landing Scales." I wonder if that version goes from two dots to one dot closer in?
@@rael5469 The LS pushbutton stands for "Landing System" and displays the ILS information (like deviation bars, ILS identifier and course, and the scales). It was originally also meant for other landing systems like MLS, which is why the button is labelled "LS" instead of "ILS" (though I believe on some older planes it was labelled ILS).
@@kallek5655 I am Cat 3 on the A320 for 30 years and it has been my understanding that LS stands for Landing Scales. But when I searched all I find is Landing System. Maybe it used to be called Landing Scales. Where would I get such an idea unless I heard it before? Anyway....our airline outsourced the plane. The experts are outside vendors.....chop shops. If you want an expert opinion of the A320 at my airline....better pick up a phone and call the chop shop. And anyway...."Landing System" implies the whole thing....the MMR, the approach mode, the LOC, etc. That button does no such thing. It simply populates the landing scales on the PFD and ND....it doesn't care where the info comes from. It's just a button. Now all the planes have MMRs but some still say ILS and some say LS. I'd have to refer to the IPC on whether they are interchangeable.
